Anons my disappointment with the Ideas pickings today are immeasurable, so much so that I'm going to be designing a build over the next few weeks for the 4th Bricklink Designer Program wave. I'm gonna go with a train set that's more of a modern take on the old 12V/4.5V steam freight sets (I'm partial to 7722 and 7730) but which route should I go with?
>Option A: Stick with the original's German flavor
The old 12V and 4.5V trains were very influenced by the Deutsche Reichsbahn and would be the easiest influence to ape visually. A Class 80 or 89 would be the lead here
>Option B: Go with a UK freight rake
I have a lot of UK stuff built already and could easily make something work here with the train being pulled by a Hunslet Austerity or some other 0-6-0T
>Option C: US Freight
I'd go with a USRA style 0-6-0 switcher with a slopeback tender. The tender will eat into the part count a bit, so this would probably have one less freight car.
I'm thinking Engine + 2-3 freight cars should be comfortable, maybe a freight platform with a small crane too for loading. What aesthetic do I go with?
