It's insane to me how fast figures were improving in the 90's. Pic related is a mere two year difference. More detailed and exaggerated comic book art threw a gauntlet down. Dome people find these ugly but I love the aesthetic.

Apparently there's subjectanon drama, so forgive me for posting a Mcfarlane example, but this is just impressive to me. cy-gor 1 was made in 96, and 2 was made in '98. Just a 2 year difference and look at the change. 2 even has play features like the tiny monkey.

Articulation won't be stand out, but by 98 the sculpts got REALLY good. Holy shit, look at this quality jump in just two years time.
I picked one up in-box last year. Complete with the old catalog advertising the website. Also its funny to think the internet's been part of daily life that long. I mean I had the internet as a kid back then, but its still amusing to think that was 24 years ago.

While it's not modern, I still think the leap McFarlane toys did from 1996 to 1998 is incredible.
Cy-Gor II is such a robust sculpt. Even the packaging design felt more mature and modern compared to the first few years of McFarlane toys.

I still contest that the power leap between McFarlane in 95 and McFarlane and 98 is the biggest leap in figure sculpting and one that has yet to really be matched since then. Cy-Gor II is still an amazing figure, and it only took them two years to improve this much.

As for Jazwares, I think they've been alright for a while, they just have problems in the final production stage. Cartoons are always tricky to do in 3D form, especially with art styles like Regular show where its meant to look like crude doodles and not fully realized 3-dimensional characters. More traditional toon characters they did, like Tom and Jerry, looked a lot better, and I really like their Space ghost too. I also think, for all the flaws, their sonic line has been the best we've seen from any company. Would love to see them try those figures again.
