Also no one wanted EzraFlash (I have seen him warming several rows of pegs all by himself), Jokerized Dark Detective, Unmashed UglyOmega, Batzarro, and possibly Injustice Superman either. And probably Arsenal and Infinite Frontier look Damien, especially not in grayscale.

Or McFarlane has always sucked and making good looking articulated figures? The good ones are so few and far between. The worst of all IM is the complete refusal to improve or change things that people WHO ARE ACTUALLY BUYING THIS CRAP have been begging for. More accurate sculpts, better proportions, no more ugly crotches, better engineered articulation, less Batmen/Supermen. So instead of making any changes, Todd keeps delivering the same exact shit three years in now. I'll be glad to see this line and McFarlane in general, crash and burn.

That old Mattel hire is not to blame though. Sales were tanking, less people were buying the figures. So instead of making the obvious changes, McFarlane went and hired this cost-cutting guy who also ran the Mattel DC Multiverse line into the ground. The McFarlane toys management/decision makers are to blame. They refused to improve figures, sales were lower, so they lower the quality even more, and they're about to be in some tailspin now.

If you can't tell the old figures are better than the new ones I don't know what to tell you. The old ones had more accurate sculpts, less noticeable diapers (some even hard plastic crotches rather than diapers like Death Metal Batman). This is still shit but it's definitely a new flavor of shit in 2023

Especially when newcomers like Jada pop into the action figure game and already have great sculpts, re-use only where it makes sense, pinless joints, at a $25 price point.

I agree, for the most part, they were 20 buck toys, they were never going to be 'good' but now that people are being asked to pay more for worse looking or even more poorly implemented figures it seems quite a problem to keep paying.

As far as the crotches, many of the older figures hid the ugly crotches well, but with little to no sculpted detail or no belt on a good deal of these new figures, that has become difficult on ones like KF Catwoman or Project Superman.

100000% this. Like I just said above. McFarlane's figures were never spectacular, but they were cheaper than the rest on the toy shelves. But now the price have jumped way up and the quality has gotten worse.

I've seen enough Anthony reviews to know Hasbro has just as many problems as mcfart, they're just in different areas. Or used to be anyway. Mcfart used to have somewhat good looking figures that could barely move and had weird proportions. Now he has ugly figures with mismatching finishesm that can move a bit and still have weird proportions. Hasbro has plain basic figures for the most part that articulate well enough for their price point but don't really look like they're worth 25 bucks and also often have weird proportions, non-matching finishes, spindly limbs or slouching shoulders.

I don't see that much of a difference in quality between the various Hasbro lines. GI Joe and Marvel Legends feel about on par with one another imo. I will admit that Star Wars has been getting the shit end of the stick lately but the brand has been effectively murdered by Disney, so interest in it is at a deep low. I don't have any of the Indy line but it looks on par with everything else they put out, the only line I feel like truly has less actual quality in it is Power Rangers, I feel like the team that works on it actively hates that IP.

GI Joe Classifieds has also been around for significantly less time than Marvel Legends. I'm sure if it was around for as long, you'd see the same thing. The quality, in my opinion anyway, is really no different. Plastic quality is the same, paint quality is the same, Joe's get more accessories, I'll give them that. Build quality is the same, hell I wouldn't be surprised if you could swap some parts between the two lines. We're not talking an import vs domestic level of differences here.

The amount of paint and sculpted detail as well as general poseability is higher on Classified. They certainly aren't imports, but more effort goes into the average Classified than the average ML which often have throwaway blank figures with no sculpting with just some paint and tampography to let you know which character it actually is and a new head.

I mean, that's super heroes for you. 80% of them are in skin right, colored spandex. What do you want? The Joes I have feel so incredibly similar to MLs, if you boxed them up as generic SHIELD soldiers I genuinely wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Joes have just as much reuse. Look at the new Action Force figure they're doing, Grunts upper body, Rick n Rolls legs, belt thigh rigs radio and pistol. Reused helmet, reused hands, reused balaclava face. The plate carrier is new I think as is the AR style rifle. Everything else is reuse.

They get more uniqueness out of making new gear than they do out of the actual figures themselves. I've done some kitbashing with Joes and a lot of them are pretty much interchangeable. It's much cheaper to make a new plate carrier or chest rig and slap it on am existing figure then it is to engineer a whole new action figure.

Mcfarlane doesn't know how to handle making articulation. You know what they need? Literally play testing where they're bring in customers and watch how they're struggling to pose the figures and then fix the things that the customers struggled at. Barely anything. Unlike say Matty's Origins lines (MOTU, Superstars. MOTWWEU), Joes and ML use varying sizes of parts across the board on all areas of the body making at the very least some modding needed, It's a rare event even for a headswap to work straight away even between figs of the same line

The only thing close to that nowadays is the Diablo/Warcraft line and Dragons, but I prefer that approach. I wouldn't have minded some DC figures in that style either but most toy collectors value articulation over sculpts and paint nowadays.

They're only considered toys because they tend to have a few cuts for artificial articulation, but they're essentially statues.
Still, 6 inch statues aren't really a thing so they covered a specific niche that no longer exists.
The current Movie Maniacs are sort of a return to form, but it's a very limited selection, and even then, the paint apps just aren't as good.
