Like even completely ignoring any pursuit of scientific discovery or off-planet colony ambitions, from a purely immediate materialistic perspective there are fucking tons of exploitable resources in space;
-There’s an absolutely stupid amount of metals in the asteroids, including some which are genuinely quite scarce on earth.
-The surface of the moon is quite literally covered in over 1 million tons of helium-3 in the surface regolith. Which is a potentially extremely valuable resource for enabling future cheap widespread fusion energy.
-And even just in the coming decade or two, there’s a ton of exotic alloys which can only be formed in zero-G. That’s one of the various future industries Space-X is hoping to enable and capitalize on by upping the amount of space launches by several orders of magnitude.
