If you're comfortable with slightly bending an axle, you could attach the tittieplate more closely to the torso if you attach it through the peg hole using the axle for the technic function. One of those axles with a capped end would work well for this I think. You'd need some way to keep the plate steady though because spinning the axle will move the plate.
