This absolute unit will drop on the market the first of october with a 450€ price tag. I would have bought it day one if it wasn't for the need of a smartphone: I hate how there's no way to control it without the app. I can see how in 10~15 years playing with it will just be impossible, just like if nowadays we had to use a cell phone from 10~15 years ago to use one of our technic sets. Hey , i just started to get back into Bionicle/Hero Factory etc and just saved these guys from the local charity shop for £2 each. So don't know any names

Can any of you identify them, so i can work out what is missing?. They seem to be mostly complete, not sure on the orange and white ones arm, doesn't seem right

Left two are Rocka and Bulk from the Brain Attack waves (2013). Then Bulk and Nex from Breakout (2012). Rightmost guy is also from Brain Attack, think the name is Ogrum. They look pretty complete, think Nex is supposed to be like that.

Set #6221 Nex (orange and white guy) is missing a trans neon green System antenna on his left arm.
And set #6223 Bulk (gunmetal orange and silver guy) is built wrong, his "Zamor" gun is supposed to be shoulder-mounted a la Nuparu Inika.

So look up those set numbers, using Brickset (their library seems to be fucked up though) or Bricklink. Nex probably is missing just that antenna, Bulk is missing a lot of pieces used to attach the gun to his back and his hand.

Thanks! Looking them over it seems Ogrum is missing 1 green tentacle thing as he only has 2 instead of 3 and Nex is missing a green pointy thing that sticks in the gun bit. Apart from that they are complete :) well minus a couple of those ball things for the guns

My bad- the Zamor gun is attached to his arm, so that's correct. It's that other weapon that is meant to be shoulder-mounted, but you seem to have gotten figured it out.

Too many collectors figured out that the Takara versions were just on a whole other league above the Hasbro versions and began importing too many, so Hasbro decided to "unify" the brand by shitcanning the transformers legends as a regular toyline and make all transformers products equally shitty worldwide. Right before the ugliest toyline in transformers history too.

Sucks.

Hordika mutation doesn't really make its victims physically stronger or anything. Locks them out of using mask powers and also makes them go insane too.

In my experience, most of the attacking enemies show up on the left. Just point your disk launcher to the left side and shoot the Rama the second it pops up. Rarely they'll appear on the right side, but if you focus on the left flank you should be fine.

If I recall correctly, there's a keystone by Ahkmou's stall. You have to go to the sculpture fields and match the symbol on it to the corresponding Toa carving. It'll open up a cave where you fight the Nui Jaga with Pohatu. Then go talk to Onewa afterward.

Two or three days ago. There was a Mata Nui set with gimmick, where he would switch out certain parts of his golden armor for toa-colored pieces and the Ignika for six colored variants that were a combination of the designs of each Mata's mask and the Ignika itself, it was pretty neat. He had giant versions of the Mata weapons and a huge shield piece, it didn't look like Click's shield form though.

I got as far as getting home and inspecting the masks before I woke up.

Had one last week, I was in what looked like Sears and I bought a canister that had Nuju, Whenua, and Nokama Metru fully assembled inside. They also had the Mistika sets in boxes similar to the villains in the first wave of Hero Factory.

It's kind of surreal how nearly everyone (myself included) kind of forgot about the Slizer torso. It's actually a really cool piece, and it flows perfectly with the aesthetic of the Mata torso. In terms of age, it's practically ancient, yet it looks perfectly modern on your MOC.

Not for a good while now. Though today I did have a Bonk-related dream, namely that I had a book called Bionicle: Weapons that had neat comicbook-like art of how tools or weapons worked in the lore along with detailed descriptions of each.

Yep, totally true. Poor posability is kind of a thing with much of the first few years but the visorak are too far into the line to have that excuse. I still think they're the best designed "monster" faction though

My ideal Stars line up would be mostly villains, as those are really the sets that defined each year. The play pattern could just be that Tahu has to defeat five enemies from the past to obtain the Golden Armor.
'01 - Tahu (Red)
'02 - Fohrok (Yellow)
'03 - Rahkshi (White)
'04 - Vahki (Black)
'05 - Visorak (Green)
'06 - Skakdi (Blue)
It would make sense narratively too, because all five of these villains would be army builders that Makuta had control over.

I liked the Visorak, too, but I don't think a whole set of 6 breeds was needed. It made sense for the previous army villains in one way or another (each Metru had its own Vahki for instance), but 1-3 regular breeds was enough. The other slots could've been used for elite breeds or something else. Still, I actually like them more than most army villains.

If you're comfortable with slightly bending an axle, you could attach the tittieplate more closely to the torso if you attach it through the peg hole using the axle for the technic function. One of those axles with a capped end would work well for this I think. You'd need some way to keep the plate steady though because spinning the axle will move the plate.

Brown wouldn't have been used since the Phantoka used dark grey as a second color. Tan + dark grey looks good and has always been a Po-Matoran color scheme. Special needs Matoran included.

My best (and only) worthwhile find at a thrift store was an Axalara T9 for $15. I was worried about missing pieces, but by the time I had finished building it (it was half complete but I took it apart because I'm OCD and needed to clean all the parts) it was only missing one 1 2-axle. Very fun set, and huge. I remember when it first came out I was priced out, so it was a really fun find.

Basically all my bonkles come from car boot sales or second hand stores. With enough patience sooner or later there's gonna be someone selling cheap bonkles. The only downside is cleaning (though I never buy anything that is visibly dirty or worn anyway).

Ko-Wahi is a goddamn labyrinthine mess with no clear direction. You can easily miss out on like a quarter of the level, including the bit where you find the Akaku, and some parts don't tell you which direction is forward or back. Never mind the fact that some challenges just plain don't work.

Oddly enough, the grappling hook sometimes doesn't work in the area, no matter how close you get to the attachment point. I had to abuse Kakama-boosted jumps to get across the icicles.

Nope. There should be some configuration that works without needing to cling to any white blocks, though you might need to use the Kakama to jump far enough. Kakama and later Miru tend to be the answer to most problems in this game.

They're photos with some added Photoshop effects. As far as I know they didn't start doing fully CG boxart renders for titan sets until 2007, though Nocturn's and Karzahni's boxes still used photos.

It really sucked how often they just used naked Piraka torsos. Like at least on Pirakas themselves they had big rubber spines to steal the show overall but on other figures it's just lame. The peg holes on it are really convenient and you can do interesting things with it like on Axonn or Vezon, but they never do.

It's worse when you consider that after defeating Makuta there was literally nothing preventing them from returning to Metru-Nui yet they decided to go up and then return to the island just to face a whole spider infestation and undo their victory which probably would not happen if they didn't go to Mata-Nui in first place.

Reading these made my heads spin. Am I the only one who thinks the Metru Nui saga was needlessly convoluted and mostly useless? I get it, you need to explain why no one aside from the Turaga remembers Metru Nui, and how they got to Mata Nui in the first place. Aside from that, it's just a Teridax evil plot that doesn't go well, and an excuse to reuse the Vahi.

That time period IRL was prequel craze, what with Star Wars and all, and understand they wanted to narrate a backstory. But I feel there were so many other scenarios they could've picked.

The narrative is that it's literally the Turaga telling this story around the campfire. Each of the books have interludes where they check back in with the Toa Nuva listening to their tale. I thought that was a good way to exposit information like how Vakama got the Vahi and how the GSR crashed in the first place.

Metru Nui could have been far better utilized if Lego didn't have their "can't feature unreleased set waves in the story" and "can't spoil the movie" rules that forced the creation of the Morbuzakh and Krahka side plots because the Dark Hunters and Nivawk were off-limits until the year's second half. Also there was the whole 2005 fiasco where Lego forced the team to make up an unplanned filler year from scratch whether or not it fit into the wider narrative. That soured Metru Nui even further in the eyes of many fans.
The marketing didn't do it much justice either, as most of the promos didn't make it clear at all that we were watching a flashback. I, as only a casual fan with no internet connection and no access to the books and comics at the time, thought it was the future and the Turaga became Toa. There's nothing wrong with Metru Nui conceptually (unless you disliked the eventual reveal that the inner islands were basically Mata Nui's organs), it had a fantastic design and story potentials aplenty, but like many things in the franchise, it wasn't ideally utilized and confusingly explained in promo materials. They originally planned further flashback years, but kids were so confused by Metru Nui that they didn't do any more.

between the crashes and bugs it's adecent platformer with a nice atmosphere and some puzzles here and there. Fuck the autorun segments though, except the kane-ra with pohatu. Also it currently doesn't have a final boss or ending.

Sadly that doesn't amount to much as most masks only have a couple instances where you're required to use them, and you only acquire a couple masks per level. The good thing about them, though, it that it's relatively easy to abuse the Kakama and Miru to cross some of the shittier platform sections or beat some of the bosses, and the Huna can be useful to hide from enemies you don't want to deal with.
But the game is so unfinished that it's not just the masks that get underused. Some of those elemental glyphs you're required to pick up don't have any use. It's sure more Bionicle-faithful than the 03 game or Heroes, but it's still miles from being any kind of an "ideal" Bionicle game.

I hate that no released games utilise the Toa's mask-switching ability. Or, in fact, any of the story years past 02 (the Nuva being able to 'share' masks is gay as fuck)

Collecting masks each with unique powers, which you can switch between on the fly is such a cool ability. And it lends itself so well to a videogame setting.

I wouldn't say so, if we're looking at the masks that existed in 01. A lot of them were situational, like the Kaukau, Rau, Ruru, Akaku. Huna and Komau are only noble, so not too OP. They could only be used one at at time, and the user could still be caught off-guard if they didn't think fast enough.
Plus, if your mask gets knocked off, you lose the connection to the Suva and essentially all your masks are gone until you put it back on.

I think overall there was a very good balance, but when you consider mask powers that were introduced later there is definitely the potential for serious abuse. For example, use a mask of Summoning, switch to mask of Rahi Control and take command of the Tahtorak or Kanohi Dragon or whatever the fuck else you just summoned.

He is correct, the Toa and Piraka minifigs use connections that are bar sized everywhere, even for the head. A regular minifig neck peg is roughly stud sized, so much larger.

The developers are trying to add them, form what I gather, along with a genuine Makuta boss fight. But of course none of these exist in any current build of the game. It just ends on six platforming levels for each Toa and apparently that's how Makuta was to be defeated.
There was a fake rumor like ten years ago that the beta contained a Shadow Toa fight, but the leaks confirmed it was total bullshit. The only thing that's certain is that at one point there was to be a Toa Kaita level taking place in what looked like a giant computer room (early foreshadowing to Mata Nui's core processor), but it got scrapped and replaced with a cutscene when the original developers realized they won't be able to pull it off. I assume the Litestone guys are trying to reverse-engineer that level too. At least the models for it actually exist.

It really shows how Bionicle was shaped by unforeseen happenstance. If Lego had it their way, we would have gotten the PC game with no grand Makuta moment and MNOG would have been a paltry sideshow. But since the game got canned and Templar took up the slack, the story, characters and world became much better than Lego originally intended.
