They are cool and worth owning. I don't know why people act like they are some scarce, impossible to get resource. Just buy one. It costs less than a shitty star wars set.
They aren't in new sets, but they are plentiful and easy to get if you are willing to shell out like twenty bucks. You can get a huge raised baseplate for less than the cost of some weird rare minifigures...
I just bought the rock raiders one. Whatever anon said they used it for a big dwarf mine, that sounded really cool.
