The GK aren't just psychic space marines, they're psychic space marines that take all these oaths and trials and work with the Inquisition from their super secret base on Titan, and so on and so forth
The Custodes are humanity perfected, they stay on Terra for the most part, they protect the Emperor, and they absolutely can tear the assholes out of anyone stupid enough to try their luck against them without issue. They're even more powerful and special, but I just feel there's less presumption to them. Maybe that's just because they've been more background elements for the most part while the GK were more active in the setting, and thus had more chances to be edgy at us
