I actually just picked up the Adepta Sororitas in grey (two of them) because a Walmart I was at had some still. I'm pumped to paint them but I was wondering if there's any problems using the same shake can primer and acrylics I use on my minis here? I feel lucky to have found them so I don't really want to fuck them up but painting them IS the point of them being all grey, right anons? ... Right?

No way GW would let them get so close with their bread and butter. Besides, who would want that? Most 40k fans would already have minis, so something similar would be kind of undesirable. maybe people who were too intimidated to get into the minis, but that seems like such a small market. Figures were the best call for McFarlane, and 1:12 scale has been popular, so them going for that market made sense (inadvertently, McFarlane's weird ass 7" figures fit in with the 1:12 stuff).

This is one of the cheaper ones without volumetric shading, I believe? If you want more paint apps, then you might want to opt for the other releases. If not, then this is fine. There might be some noticeable visual inconsistency if you mix it with the fancier figures, but that's highly YMMV territory.

Ironically this is why you're better off buying painted versions — you're expected to use primer anyways so them being grey everywhere is detrimental to an action figure, because the grey joints mean you get gnarly paint rub. You can fix this by either sanding the joints or dyeing the figure black, but the fact that you need to do any of these in the first place is why the painted ones are preferred. Only exception is if you need chapter heraldry specific to the AP figures.

There were some firstborn heads that GW nixed, they were sold in China and some stores like lockertoys and cooltoysclub got some too. Lockertoys I think will sell them if you're in their fansclub or whatever they call their premium membership, cooltoysclub you have to have 3000 'growth points' in your account, which iirc means having spent $3,000 with them. I'm ashamed to say I got mine from cooltoysclub.

Any reason you chose him over the sergeant hellblaster? Sgt has a robo hand, and a plasma pistol.

To answer your question; The hellblaster might have the bad hard hands, so check a review first. If your planning to pose it once and leave it on the shelf, then the hard hands won't be an issue. If your like me and constantly swap weapons, then the hard hands are really annoying. Otherwise, though, you should have no issues.

They changed the Imperial Fists deco more than once. And IMO only the first wave Fists looked good, everything after that was trash.

Blood Angels are on their third deco I believe.

This is probably distressing to people who want consistency, but I'm ok with it, I just think of it as some marines are relatively new to battle, and others are veterans with scorched and chipped armor.

It also appears to have some light drybrushed weathering around the torso and boots. That is also new to the line, and the others don't have it. Maybe they threw it in to try to justify the cost, cause it's rather small for a Megafig.

For Astartes, I think so. Rest of the line had that as early as Necrons, I think, but the Astartes always had variations between the painted ones and the APs.

Oh right, the standard Necron warriors. I forgot about them because the Flayed Ones APs had a unique variant. As did the Genestealers with the Ymgarl version.

Genestealers actually had a variant too, that I rarely see people talk about. It had an differently painted headplate and a different back, with more "exposed meat" and less spines.

Even with McFarlane showing off some new figs, I'd still say that's extremely hopeful of ya. The company as a whole has not been doing too great, poor decision making and fan unhappiness has been building. Spawn line is likely going to die soon, DCMV is pissing a lot of people off lately with inappropriate parts reuse and bad headsculpts, and people were not that enthused about their 40K figs to begin with. I'm genuinely happy that McFarlane fans get a few more 40K releases, but I would not be surprised if these were the last.

Steel yourself, is all I'm saying. Chaos Termies are also highly ornamented literally all over, the only parts I think you could reuse are the thighs, feet, and crotch. So it'd be a lot of new parts needed, making it an unlikely choice.

It definitely saves money, paint apps are one of the most expensive parts of figures nowadays. This started as a cute "hey, this is the same way 40K minis are sold, in unpainted grey plastic!" novelty. But locking off exclusive sculpts to them was a bad move. And then McFarlane started doing this for like, DC figures, which had no connection to this style, and were pretty much done just to save a buck. Add to this that some people got APs by surprise when they thought they were ordering the regular figs, and it just seems like a bad idea all around.

It was honestly never a good idea, most painters would prime over the factory paint anyway, and the McFarlane 40k figures have so little paint to begin with it's near-pointless to release APs.

The AP probably has no new parts because it's a megafig, so the molds would cost more due to size. They probably don't think the AP sales are worth it to give an AP megafig varied sculpt.

I assume sales would favor Astartes and Chaos Marines compared to other 40k figures they could do so that is probably why McFarlane has kept going with the line with these. Really they could keep pumping out a lot of straight reuse with different chapter logos for new people who discover the line in 2024 rather than earlier on.

It's not really budget though. The Terminator will be a megafig, so $50. Considering you can get the JoyToy Termies as cheap as $35 shipped nowadays, you're losing in pretty much every single respect except sheer size.

Space Hulk and the art makes them out to be so cool, but they're underwhelming in physicality so far. Manlets are not cool.

The amount of paint/plastic/tooling used for the product, how new/old it is, where it's bought from, etc. are still naturally going to factor into the price though so bringing up one of the few cases where McFarlane is more expensive doesn't really work for the entire line to line comparison. For people who collect McFarlane 40k, they will have to decide if they want that megafig. But they can't just buy a JT terminator and throw it in with their mcfarlanes. They have to have a JT collection, which is on the whole going to run them more than mcfarlanes for an equivalent number of figures, especially if you are going to take into account sales (I assume the JT terminators you speak of aren't MSRP $35, that'd be insane given what I've seen of JT MSRP prices).

Anyway, even outside of price, it still isn't the same market as McFarlanes are stocked at places like Target and Walmart, so more exposure to a mass market, which is one of the reasons in addition to less paint that they could price their basic 7in figures at 19.99.

This is a cool paintjob but looks half-finished. You need highlights so bad, especially on the mouth tendrils and eyes and shit. They look so drab, like you quit after putting in the darks and mids. The darker armor plates on the head and back could also use a light drybrush or maybe even a wash with a lighter color to pop their detail out.

I know DCMV Batwoman Beyond doesn't work with the sister mold without modification or replacement of the ballpeg if you want the ballpeg to fit into the hole in the neck joint rather than just sit on top of the figure. The ballpeg is too high up in the head so the peg isn't log enough to reach. McFarlane used to and maybe still does use some varied ballpeg sizes per figure so predicting headswaps can be a rough endeavor until you try them or someone else does and gives the OK like the guy from that video's thumbnail you posted.

But yeah, the Krieg figures had normal proportions and so did the nuns.
The mechanicus only seem thinner because they're not wearing coats and pounches. They still have the gorilla arms, thickass long legs, and oversized hands and feet.

Majority of the people who buy these in bulk don't even know concepts as rudimentary as washes or drybrushing. Even most (talking ~70%) who buy smaller quantities to paint them can't paint for shit out of a combination of ignorance and plain skill issue. So the majority of buyers have either low standards or don't care, otherwise they wouldn't be patronizing McFarlane to begin with.

I'm miffed about the stupid-ass price hike and the worthless cards, but these will sell just fine for their target market, especially since they've chosen three of the most popular factions this time. $30 should absolutely look way better, but when your target demographic has low standards anyways, that's a non-issue from a business standpoint. Although I expect any half-decent reviewer to no longer give them a pass for the shady paint at least. With price points like that, it's reaching Hasbro-levels of predation.

Even if they're $30 and $50, that's not that insanely outrageous, nor surprising. Aren't marvel legends like $25 now? Star wars TVC (1:18 line) are $17 now, everything's been going up in price, so massive 7" figures being $30 isn't too crazy, though still a bit disappointing, especially the terminator at $50. Maybe it will end up being $40, a bit more reasonable, maybe if your patient you can get them for even cheaper, like everything else in the line. Either way, joytoy is still on top with cheaper, and more varied, terminators available.

I take that back. After looking at the MSRPs of 7-inch scale figures on Amazon, $30 for these isn't so bad; rather, it's the bare minimum for their size, articulation, and accessories (extra hands and weapons, not the shitty stand and cards).

If you look at NECA figures that have signifcantly better paint, yet less or equal the amount of accessories, and more often than not, lesser articulation (especially in elbows, knees, and wrists), then the prices range from $32-$40.

So as far as McFarlane goes, it went from the figures being an absolute steal at $20, to being a good deal at ~$24, to finally just being "fair enough" at ~$30 for a 7-inch figure with that level of articulation and accessories. Think they could've dropped the worthless card and display stand to knock the price like a dollar down, but it's not so bad when looking at other 7-inch scale figures in the market. Not great, but not Hasbro-levels of BS like I thought.

It can still pull off the kneeling pose, which was my point from the beginning. Again, because you can only hyper focus on single lines, the posability on McFarlane Marines isn't as bad as your making it out to be. Still no poses made by a competitor that can't be similarly matched by the super thick, super bulky space marine.
I only pulled out the joe because someone said the female marvel legends are notably worse off in terms of articulation, and unlike you, I'm not trying to come off as disingenuous by exaggerating any one figures capabilities, hence acknowledging the joe has better ranges.

Despite being into 40K since I was a kid, I never found out what a melta was until now. I guess I always assumed it shot like, streams of hot lava or some shit. The fact that it's a shotty-style blast makes it really weird to me that heavy meltas exist. I imagine such a percussive shot from such a huge weapon would like, liquefy the wielder as well as the target.

From the design, I get the impression that it fires a stream of energy, like a hose of plasma, for varying duration (the handheld version shoots a quick burst, hence the shorter range, and the heavy version can shoot for a longer period, which let's the stream shoot further).

The forearm that the storm bolters are mounted on should have been on a swivel, so they could rotate out of the way.
The pauldrons (not just on GK but in general) should have been attached like how McFarlane did; double ball joints on the sides (rather than the top like joytoy initially did). The way terminators did it works, too.

My dude, the armour is irrelevant, it's all about how the hips and legs are designed. Mcfart encases the entire hip-assembly in a stiff-plastic diaper that only has holes for the legs to poke out of. The toy cannot kick straight out-and-up against the diaper.

Most competent companies use a speedo design that has the crotch sculpted in a V-shape with the legs attached to the sides. Look at the Custode in >>10754798, same thing. Some use very-soft plastic(like storm). Others have diapers with drop-down hips.

The main point is: Stiff-diaper shell + no thigh swivel = bad leg movement. The ankles sucking doesn't help either.

JoyToy has been constantly playing with different schemes to try to figure out the best way. The shoulder pads have gone through several different iterations already. It's a shame they didn't have it dialed in yet at this time, but it is what it is.

And btw, JoyToy started with balljointed shoulder pads, they moved away from it because they popped off easily if you lifted the arms too high and could be a pain to put back (the balljoint would keep shifting under it as you applied pressure). The new rubber ring style doesn't have quite as good range, but it stays in place firmly, which I much prefer. There really aren't too many poses it hinders anyway.

The arms are too long and the shoulders too broad, but somehow it doesn't bug me at all in person. This line has several weird instances like that, where things that bothered me to an incredible degree in photos are a non-issue in reality.

If you do attempt to fix it, be sure to pin it. Use a pin vise to drill a small hole into both ends of the break, then insert a section of metal dowel or stiff wire. Then superglue it back together. The metal pin will give it strength. Otherwise that supeglue will just break again and again.

The GK aren't just psychic space marines, they're psychic space marines that take all these oaths and trials and work with the Inquisition from their super secret base on Titan, and so on and so forth
The Custodes are humanity perfected, they stay on Terra for the most part, they protect the Emperor, and they absolutely can tear the assholes out of anyone stupid enough to try their luck against them without issue. They're even more powerful and special, but I just feel there's less presumption to them. Maybe that's just because they've been more background elements for the most part while the GK were more active in the setting, and thus had more chances to be edgy at us
