Today i got the first new and sealed original Lego set for over 20 years.
I bought the 31111 "Cyber Drone" on amazon for 7€, which was a nice discount on a set that is still somewhat new.
Since everything else i buy new (i like to buy used lego stuff on ebay and brickling too from time to time) is non-lego bricks i will review it here.
The box is of a decent size. Its small, because the set is small, but not tiny. Its a more reasonable size than many of the other companies sets, that often come in oversized boxes.
However, the material of the box is weak and soft and it feels really cheap in comparison to the really thick and sturdy (and slightly oversized) cardboard that boxes from Sluban, Qman or Wange use.
As a result, one corner of the box is already dented in, despite the amazon packaging around it was not damaged at all. Probably just from the back-and-forth-movement inside.
It weights quite alot though.
However, this weight is caused by 3 instruction booklets. 47, 34 and 30 pages. More than 50% of the sets weight are box and manuals.
So all in all i got around 110 pages of instructions for 113 pieces. I knew modern Lego instructions are large and aimed at literal retards, but really?
The paper feels super cheap as well. Thin, and non-glossy. These are just shit. I recently got some of those 1-knight-minifigure-sets from Enlighten, and even those folded instructions (which are bad compared to actual booklets) are made from better paper.
The set itself is nice, but that is to be expected. Parts are good, nothing was missing.. no complaints. The Drone itself looks cool too. I have not build the other build options yet, but maybe later. the main build looks best anyway.
There is a small scratch on the cockpit. That part is my biggest complaint anyway, because its just boring trans-clear instead of having a cool space-themed color like green or yellow or whatever. That would have had improved the set even more.
