If I say something like "Well, someone is going to have to stay late to lock up the store, but I'll pay them extra to do it" I am specifically designating ONE hypothetical person (someONE, literally, same as in my previous example) and I am referring to them as "they/them". It was even rather common to refer to one person of unknown gender as "themselves". A phrase like this would have been perfectly normal 10, 20, or 50+ years ago. And if you think it wouldn't be, it's because you're a faggot with the memory span of a retard.
