Ravage went back in time to alter history, causing Wheeljack and Megatron to gain knowledge of what would happen in the movie. Wheeljack built alternate bodies for the Sparks of everyone who died to transfer into, andMegatron avoided getting shot. So everyone but Optimus survived.
Prowl didn’t need his second body, so they transferred his buddy Chip Chase’s soul into it to survive. Prowl 2 AKA POwl AKA Transmetal Prowl is actually the super genius/super strong wheelchair kid from the original cartoon that is Prowl’s heterosexual life partner.
Despite being identical on Cybertron, upon arriving on ancient Earth Prowl became a lion and Chip Prowl became an owl. For some reason the two have never been shown interacting, although to be fair neither ever had a starring role in anything and Hasbro either forgot or is pretending they forgot that Chip existed.
