I would even go as far to say that if Gunpla had not been sold in conjunction with the anime series, Gundam would have died in the 80s. Buying mecha models and toys is absolutely vital to keeping Gundam and other mecha franchises alive. The people that buy mecha "CUZ IT LOOK COOL" with no interest in the actual story are a huge part of the franchise, and I am fine with those people. DESU I find the mecha designs more interesting than the stories.
