In the early days of 2005 IDW you have more niche characters like Hardhead, Ramjet, and Rotorstorm getting the spotlight in some issues, and some of the core G1 cast like Prowl and Thundercracker being given new interesting takes on their characterization. Alongside this, you had very few original/OC characters in the comics at this point with most roles being filled out with obscure 87/88/89/european Bots/Cons instead of just making up someone on the spot. The only OC Transformers in IDW prior to MTMTE/RID were Drift and Nova Prime. Following the start of those two books you're introduced to all of these character that're entirely new to TF fiction
>Windblade>Rung>Nautica>Riptide>Tarn & the DJD>Fulcrum>Pharma>Ambulon>Tyrest>Tappet & various other NAILs>Turmoil>Stardrive>Aileron>Rum-Maj>Anode & Lug>The Functionist Council>The other Titans>Probably a shit-ton of others I'm forgetting at the momentBasically you had a ton of new characters being introduced in a shorter period of time than before alongside splitting up the book from one main book and some sidestories/spotlights into two main books and some side material (And that's not even getting into the fuck-fest that's the push from Hasbro to force GI Joe, ROM, Action Man, and Micronauts into an already established timeline that had been going for 10 years just fine without them). Basically they got too greedy too fast with what they had established, shit went down south fast and broke the emergency glass containing Unicron and used him as a reset button.
2019 IDW is just plain bad from start to finish with zero redeeming qualities however that tries so hard to be dramatic but falls flat every time. Pic related is supposed to be a dramatic reveal of this OC character's botmode but the art gives the reveal zero impact to the reader.
