Some of you guys have the right idea but don't execute it. You need lots of light, diffused, with appropriate/contrasting backgrounds.
A good cheapo way to diffuse a direct flash is to hold a page of paper or thin tissue in front of your camera flash, or if your camera flash can angle upwards like mine, bouncing the light up off he ceiling of your lightbox for even coverage.
