>>6347566>Pretty sure Lego changed how they made bricks sometime around 08-09, so pieces in general aren't as strong now.Lego did tons of subtle changes to the bricks so they use less plastic like thinner walls with the clutch point being reduced to those nubs on the sides and round edges on top of the studs.
They also switched to a different style of plastic to keep the costs down and instead of moulding the bricks in solid colors they use translucent plastic pellets with color pigments added to them.
However, this let to the overall quality of the bricks go down the drain with the most common breaking bricks being anything one stud wide, minifig heels (amusingly, this doesn't seem to happen to the dual-injected or CMF ones since they are made in China of cheaper, softer plastic), elbows and torso sides, Technic axle connectors and clips.
The last one is especially horrible whenever they are made out of translucent polycarbonate since it's actually too brittle for this kind of shit and you can actually see how the cracks grow in them.
