if you want them to be spookier there are also these chinese bootleg printed trans clear minifigs

but be warned as they are brittle as fuck so if you want them to hold a weapon then use an ABS minifig hand instead

Anyone here actually plays with LEGO as an adult (I am in mid 20s)? I always thought it would be kinda weird, but I got the Fortrex and a couple of other Nexo Knights sets recently and I played with them for many hours, having lots of fun. I don't know if it's autistic, but it surely helps me feel less stressed and lonely. Just collecting isn't fun for me and I don't have that big of a collection to actually make MOCs yet.

I've noticed lots of smaller pieces breaking on sets that I've had built for long periods of time (clips, grills, 1x1 bricks, axle spacers, mixel ball sockets). Pretty sure Lego changed how they made bricks sometime around 08-09, so pieces in general aren't as strong now.

That's fucking disappointing. I've been teetering on just getting minifigs for a long time since I enjoy collecting those. I'd usually spring for the whole sets so I could have some fun with bricks, but now I feel paranoid that I'll break em by just using them

Glad to see I am not the only one, playing as an adult has always been frowned upon even among Lego enthusiasts from what I've seen.

And yeah I also make my own backstories, whatever the theme is, even with licensed Lego, though I prefer original Lego themes.

I'd honestly say any Juniors set you can pick up cheap is worth it. Polybags tend to be pretty great too. As for "real" sets, maybe check out the creator line. I like the 31063
Beachside Vacation and 31065
Park Street Townhouse a lot. Ninjago and Elves also have good offerings for under $50.

it was hard for me to say how old the pieces were but probably the oldest pieces in my collection would be from about 2007 or so, it was just extremely weird to me that the only ones that seemed to break were the reddish brown ones with rare exceptions

i did a lot of googling at the time and even posted here, but mostly i got anons who told me to stop shoving them up my asshole, so i never really got an answer

i have heard that the transparent colours snap more easily too but this has never happened to me. in my experience it's been 80% reddish brown and 20% pearl gold

reddish brown was really the most egregious by far though, i'm talking 4x10 plates simply snapping with almost no pressure applied

Yes, but it kinda has to be to accommodate the combination. The Batcycle slides in through the back and the Bat-Tank and Batmobile lock together there as well. It's not ideal, but not a dealbreaker imo.

It does look a little more filled-in though when the Batcycle is docked and the boosters are folded down to lock the cycle into place.

Kind of a long shot, but maybe you can look out for local LUGs. From what i gather they sometimes have bigger collaborative projects with parts being sold off afterwards and swapmeets .etc. Maybe you can find fellow Mars maniacs that way specializing in that sweet sand coloured booty.

But yeah, for now Bricklink.
Maybe check out superlots or whatever they're called for cheaper large quantities there.

Can someone explain the "vehicleshit" may may to me here?

Does it refer to just the overpriced licensed vehicle sets primarily from batman and star wars or is there just a general dislike for vehicles in this threads?

Is it that cars and ships arent the most innovative things to build? Is scenery or big creatures preferred?

I just dont understand the huge hate for vehicles, I personally think trucks can be cool and unique, as well as spaceships with cool interior like a command bridge.

Is there something I'm missing here?

Like 80% of Chima, Ninjago, and liscenced boy sets are all vehicles. True, there is a great deal of variety, but it just chokes up the roster for any other type of sets. And it just seems like more effort in general goes into vehicles than the actual building/castle/whatever sets. Once in a blue moon yoy get a stellar building like the Ninjago tower but more ofter than not it's just some shitty little diorama made up of broken apart segments or a vehicle that's twice as big as the building.

Lego did tons of subtle changes to the bricks so they use less plastic like thinner walls with the clutch point being reduced to those nubs on the sides and round edges on top of the studs.
They also switched to a different style of plastic to keep the costs down and instead of moulding the bricks in solid colors they use translucent plastic pellets with color pigments added to them.

However, this let to the overall quality of the bricks go down the drain with the most common breaking bricks being anything one stud wide, minifig heels (amusingly, this doesn't seem to happen to the dual-injected or CMF ones since they are made in China of cheaper, softer plastic), elbows and torso sides, Technic axle connectors and clips.
The last one is especially horrible whenever they are made out of translucent polycarbonate since it's actually too brittle for this kind of shit and you can actually see how the cracks grow in them.

the rat i miss was so smart. He was more like a dog or a monkey. Extremely smart and attached to me.
He could run to me when i called him no matter how far he was.
He would use random room objects like books or furniture to run to me and it looked like 3D action platformer.
I had dog and cat and many other animals but nobody was as cool as that rat.

LEPINBRICKS is the store I ordered my Parisian Restaurant from. I've also heard H&H Co. is a good store, from /pbbg/. You'll get better answers from them on this kind of thing probably, I only have the one chink set.

Took about 2-3 weeks to ship, I think? The first week of that was just processing.

Quality on the bricks is pretty good. Expect a couple pieces (plates mostly) to be a little bit warped. Anything with articulation (turntables, hinges) is shit. And if you get something with a baseplate, use an authentic LEGO one to build it on. It comes terribly warped, which CAN be fixed, but isn't really worth the effort or time keeping it compressed under a stack of books or weights, IMO.

Figures aren't great on the printing or the clutch, and come completely disassembled. One of mine is missing a hand because the wrist opening is too small.

I'm the initial guy you replyed to, not the second guy. I get it shouldn't crack, and I'm sorry, but it's a little disingenuous to say that all our minifigures will crack eventually when the one you're showing has extra stress induced by the sitting/holding the handlebars combo. Again, it shouldn't crack at all and I'm disappointed with Lego's dip in quality, but that minifig specifically broke because of how you had him. You're making it sound like they'll crack under the stress of their own body parts holding together but that's not the case. Until we have anons with this exact issue, don't use your example because it's not the same.

Also, yes, the body is being tugged forward by the hands because they're latched on to the handles. The legs are doing the same to the seat. The torso is being pulled one way while the legs are fastened tightly down. It's barely noticable but the pieces are bending/stressing parts. It's like when you put a spear in both of a minifigs hands and the arms bow outward ever so slightly when both the hands get a grip on it.

Rats are the bro-est animals you can imagine. The only downside is that they don't like to be locked in a cage, so if you have to lock them up at night, be sure to get an enclosure that won't allow them to make noise, or they WILL figure out how to make the most annoying noise possible and bang on it all night until you let them back out to play.

Here are the unused red torsos.

All the colors of torsos have their own bags (red and dark red share a bag, all the shades of green share a bag, etc.). Legs are divided into plain legs+hips connections, individual pieces (unattached legs and hips), printed legs+hips, short legs, dress slopes, and nonstandard (octopus lower half, pirate pegleg, faun hooves, etc.).

There's also a drawer with a bunch of assembled in-use minifigs.

I don't take anything apart unless I plan on using it for something else because even if you do it "correctly", popping arms and hands in and out does stress the pieces. Those are just incomplete figures in the bag.

Forgot to mention I also have another bag that's subdivided into Arms (some with hands), Hands (no arms), Printed Arms, and Nonstandard Arms (flippers, basketball arms, etc.).

I don't know, but keep in mind that the centre of technic brick holes are ever so slightly higher that that of bricks with stud on the side. So when you put a tile on a technicpin with stud in a technic brick, putting something on top of the technic brick that overhangs the snotted tile will technically be out of system.
If you have no idea what i'm talking about check out Jamie Bernards pdf or ppt called "stressing the elements".
Look up the official measurements if you haven't already, i doubt people are going to calculate that so quickly.

I should just get off my ass and give it a try, because i would buy more licensed sets if that worked. Dutch though, not sure if kids are as marvel and dc comicfans as americans outside of batmans and spidermans. Kind of out of the loop of what's cool with kids now. Don't day trade legos unless your lifting the valuable ones from stores.

See, the concept of an insertable sex toy made of Lego (TM) brand buildable block toy product is sound, in theory.

I got one of these and did basically the same thing you did, but as I was sorting my bulk collection, I ended up with so many legs and torsos that ran out of room for accessories and neck/waist stuff. There are two separate compartments of prebuilt figs because one is my DnD groups characters. Disassembled torsos are because I got my collection secondhand.

That sucks. I'm very lucky to have a toy shop where the employees know i'm a collector and let me feel the bags, and even offer to check them for me and set any aside that I'm looking for. I can't think of any figures in the recent series that are totally worthless, so if you do end up having to buy them at random I'm sure you'll still get something decent.

They also have a minifigure swap behind a glass counter where you can swap any collectible minifig for any other one 1 for 1, I've found all kinds of cool minifigs from earlier series there.

Series 17 is pretty easy for feel for imo
They all have pretty recognizable accessories
Only thing that tripped me up is the hotdog feeling like the highway man gun, but it also has the huge tray in it, so i won't make that mistake again

I modify them heavily myself but i'm glad they exist. They come with most nice and handy parts for vehicles in quite consistent colourschemes and introduced a bunch of new parts.
I agree the excessive stickering can be a bit odd, but most it can be left out until you have a project that makes better use out of them. I really wished some parts were printed though, like the stripes on the 1969 Camaro.
Thanks for reminding me i should get that gt40 set.

Collecting something just because it's a store exclusive is silly to me. Just build what you like.

Try to isolate a single unique part.

You could also try just buying a bunch and taking your time feeling them at home, then returning any unopened ones you don't want.

You're not crazy. There was a one-page feature in one of the club magazines about a robot factory where three wacky robots were working on making a fourth (the one in your pic). The other ones were:
One with one of the LoM aero tube joints for a head.
One with metal detectors for arms
One that had minifig legs lammed into the 1x2 end of those old laser cannons for arms.
I'd go find my old issues to get a scan, but they're in storage rn.

Oh I know it can damage parts, but I don't see how you could limit yourself to torsos and never swap out arms.
If you're swapping out arms, it's probably best to leave them off when putting them back in the box, otherwise you have to pop them off again.

They should keep the sets around longer and just change up the line up when there's a new ship imo. One of the reasons I've never bought a Star Wars set is because I know they'll just come out with a better version down the road, and then one that makes that one look like garbage the year after.

Let's take a look at the five Millenium Falcon sets (all the ones big enough to hold minifigs) shall we?

7190, released 2000: the first Falcon released, shit design, large rounded pieces instead of the sloped plates now standard
4504, released 2003: Better representation of the source material based on the building style.
10179, released 2007: Ultimate Collectors Series, out of the realm of MANY kids
7965, released 2011: 8 years since last regular set, so the previous would have been retired for 3+ years, and there were plenty of new parts and building techniques to justify this one
75105, released 2015: Justifiable through a new movie, and a new cast of characters that are on the ship.

I hate Lego Star Wars as much as the next guy, but releasing new models of the same thing is NOT one of the problems the theme has

Is pic related a good set? I do not own a proper Boba Fett yet, and this seems appropriate, plus the carbonite frozen Solo is a plus.

But there's also the newest Desert Skiff Escape set, which comes with a slightly different Boba (yellow hands). Costs a bit more but delivers Chewbacca.
