Chima and Nexo Knights fell by the wayside for being too similar theme-wise with the whole "core group of named characters fight waves of enemies that changes every season". None of the three are bad themes by any stretch, it's just that they're going to go with what's familiar and Ninjago's been around the longest. I also have a feeling modern kids are less willing to try new things. Society is more conformist and pre-planned. Exploring the unknown was what most themes in the past were about, but kids don't dream about discovering space or history or things like that anymore. It's mostly stories and characters that are already laid out for them.
