I mean, LEGO has been a successful company for quite a bit of time now, perhaps I'm spoiled, but improvement is something I expect.
I also see the lack of improvement as a very bad sign that things aren't right.
Also to elaborate on my earlier post on more detailed/realistic printing.
To me that's not what Lego is for - perhaps it's a nostalgia thing but for me minimalistic printing fits well with Lego's cartoony and wacky aesthetic.
More realistic and detailed prints fit well with Mega Construct's microfigures that want to be as close to the real thing as possible but in a small scale.
Lego figures were never designed to emulate reality, and when you blend the core minifig with printing that wants to be realistic (or close to it) it just adds two elements together that work against each other.
But that's just opinion.
