But my idea was not about mummies but about Anubis and zombies in space.

It looks awesome but the designer didnt think of drawing dinosaurs in the way they will at least fit the lego standarts

Many of those sleep designs were IMPOSSIBLE to make with what was available in Lego in the 90s.

The designer works for a art company that designs toys. It's legit,the thing is with most early concept art designs they don't look like actual legoonly later on when the theme is greenlit to enter development they do it.

Two years ago was the time the Lego Ninjago the Movie was released. After the Lego Movie and being their biggest inhouse IP it was expected to be big.
So the artist tried to post it and connect it with Ninjago by speculating it inspired Ninjago designs.
But Ninjago the movie bombed, so the hope for fame never came.

To prove further the point that its fanfiction, be it back than or after Ninjago movie was announced:
The artist states that these designs >>7739453 are from 1998. But one project he has from 1999 says it was a school concept. IMDB has 2005 as earliest entree in his resumee.
That means these sketches were made in art school. Maybe Lego did give a school project pitch to the school, like the 1999 was.
But his social media says he lives in LA, lived San Franscisco and born in Marietta, Georgia. So why would a danish company in 98 give school pitches to america and not london or france?
And why does his company list only 3d models and video games instead of any toys?
The plot around is smells fishy!

You dont need to boost these concepts, they are cool and good as threy are. Dont try to use them in a fishy way. Or make the joke you used on artstation, that somebody at Lego could have seen your ideas and later made similar designs.

Just now, after a lot of practice, built two Blacktron2-themed MOCs that not only integrate with the modular cockpits, but actually mount on the Spectral Starguider rover.

I found this weird thing that I initially didn't think was Lego when I was sorting a huge lot.

It's a trans blue pod-like container in two parts with holes for four technic pins to hold it together. At the ends are bar-sized holes and one set of them had four red horn pieces in them. Inside are a bunch of hard plastic spheres.

I cannot read the part number since it's so tiny but it's definitely stamped Lego.

Initially thought it might be a Bionicle thing but I went through all the sets on BL and couldn't find it.

What the fuck theme is this for?

All these creations are impressive, even if they feel dated but 6-wide cars able to sit 2 minifigs side by side deserve respect. And even more when they have good proportions when compared to a standing minifig. This is the best scale for Lego cars that are not showcase only.

Alright anons I picked up 4 of the new minifigures and will get the rest on Thursday. Got the Mummy, Firefighter, Coder, and Ghost Knight.

First up is the Mummy. Gold printing is solid throughout, though the black lines can be fuzzy in areas and the eyes and lip printing on her funeral mask are fairly fuzzy too. Her leg printing isn't great either and looks more like light grey than white. Scorpion accessory is fine, though I'd have preferred something much more interesting for an accessory.

Alternate head is also disappointing. The blue skin printing is translucent and the white can be seen. Should there even be white spots on her forehead? The black lines are fuzzy again on her alternate head. It's a shame because she's a cool figure.

Next up is the Ghost Knight. As soon as I built him I noticed something was off - a quick check of the instruction sheet shows his printing was red, but on the actual figure he has bronze highlights on his armour. There aren't any printing issues on his legs or shield, and he comes with a spare shield and feather.

Face printing is horrible - it looks like someone tried to erase it. The printing is faded and there are some grey patches printed on his face (most prominent is on his teeth) though this may be a rare manufacturing error rather than standard for all. His chainmail torso is faded too, and his chestplate had printing spilling out. I'm really disappointed by the quality.

Lime green and metallic printing on the Firewoman is fuzzy and patchy in places, though both of her faces have solid printing. Her helmet and hair are dual molded and have no problems.

Forgot to add that her megaphone has rubbed away printing on one side, though this could possibly be from people feeling the minifigure bags too roughly. See the speckled look on the back of her torso? That's where the black printing is visible from underneath the metallic printing and is particularly bad on the back of the torso.

Her glasses are slightly fuzzy though the rest of her face is fine. Torso printing is solid and no problems. Her robot has solid printing too and no problems either. Leg printing is terrible though. I understand that it is nigh on impossible for a 100% colour match, but the molded and printed dark grey are visibly different and the printed dark grey doesn't completely cover the red legs either

I do, the fuzzyness on the goldmask is the same and I assume it'll be like that on all mummies. The leg printing looks similar (maybe slightly better) with the colour, but it's cleaner.
The arms look a lot better and the alt head is pretty much perfect on mine though.
(actually after taking this picture it seems the head has two white dots too, but I genuinely can't see them irl. And my torso might be fuzzier, but again, very very hard to tell irl)

Okay, guys, I have started making a real effort to organize my bricks.

I separated them into four drawers, in four general categories: 1) bricks, 2) plates/tiles, 3) minifig parts, and 4) misc.

I also put my mostly intact builds into a storage box, so they're easier to find if I need to strip them for parts.

What's next? Separate the tiles and plates? Kill myself? Get more storage boxes?

Sort by size and function, not color. And consider putting distinct pieces together rather than like pieces. For example you could put your 1x1 cylinders, cheese slopes, and 2x2 dishes together. They're all tiny but distinct form one another making it much easier to find what you want. If you just put a bunch of different pieces of the same color together you'll have a hard time finding the specific one you want. If you just put a bunch of like pieces of different sizes together, like putting cheese slopes with 2x2 2x3 4x3 etc slopes, it will be hard to find the one you want.

Seeing the posts about the QC on series 19 had me curious, so I checked one of my figures I bought today (fox girl) and sure enough, theres some problems

The main face has paint splattered all around the area it should be. The alternate face is a good print, but I think it was printed up too high on the head? It definitely doesnt frame well with the hood piece. the torso also has some chipping in it that I've noticed, looking at it again.

I'm a huge faggot for this company and I love what they do, but for god sake, enough is enough. Luckily my fright knight doesn't really have issues, aside from the mouth outline being a tad thin on one part

Euroanon here, just opened my S19. I got the Johnny Thunder, Fright Knight, Mummy, Bounty Hunter and Pooper Scooper.

No print errors or egregiously bad prints on mine, though one eye on the gold mask head on the mummy is fuzzy and there's a tiny grey spec on the fright knight's teeth.

I'm increasingly starting to wonder if the US and European releases use different factories?

My mummy has the same fuzziness to the eye print as yours. But not the leg printing issue, all the lines there are solid for me.

I suspect the eyes on the gold and the fright knight face might be a result of the colors used rather than machine error.

I don't want to sound like an ass but man Lego had its absolute glory days back in the late 70s to late 80s and while I will say printing and plastic was not bad, the prints were super simplistic and many elements were designed so fragile that they would break from use. And that was still the most successful part of Lego's entire history. Lego has said that about 80% of their revenue comes from parents buying for their kids, and neither those parents nor the kids are likely to get annoyed at something like print quality. That's more of a collector/AFOL issue and that's a very small part of the market.

I don't think this will be ignored forever, but I also don't think it's a disaster for anyone who isn't a collector. The main issue seems to be that Lego has switched factories a lot and the new ones just have a lot lower quality, and since they manufacture parts all over now it's tougher to QC. The people who own the factories in Mexico and China can be very shifty about only showing off pristine samples to the companies using their facilities, which is also why grey market theft is so widespread from those places.

No easy solution either since labor laws in Europe and the US make manufacturing there too expensive in the eyes of the company.

Print quality wasn't great by the 80s. Look at brand new original Blacktron torsos, they have the mercy look to them too. I've got M:Tron torsos with printing outside the lines as well. I know the technology wasn't as good then, but print quality wasn't amazing.

I agree that the late 70 and 80 had good plastic - I also agree that some elements were fragile and had a "poor" design by today's standards.
I accept the fact that the prints were "simplistic" but I see it as a strong point.
To elaborate - the Lego figure is not a "realistic" representation of a thing. It's a caricature - a cute caricature of a person. If you look at people referring to a lego figure they'll probably say "it's a lego X" (eg. It's a lego astronaut). The language, at least to me, implies it's not supposed to be a very realistic representation of an astronaut - it's a simplistic representation of one (with squareish legs, a cylinder for a head and hands that are shaped like a letter C).
Why then would this "caricature" of the world require realistic printing? It doesn't. And I feel that more realistic printing has taken a lot away from the original concept and aesthetic of the Lego figure.

The issue with print quality is not print quality in itself - for me it is a more philosophical thing - the core tenants of the company have changed. Things are changing and as far as I'm concerned not in a good direction. You sacrifice some quality today - what will you sacrifice tomorrow for the sake of more money?

Is it a disaster? No. Is it a problem? Yes. Can problems that aren't addressed in time end up in disaster? Yes.
Do big companies die? All the time. Do I want LEGO to die and go away? No.
So that's why I get upset when I'm starting to see something that can possibly hurt them and put them out of business.

To me the threat is LEGO losing that "magic" appeal it has - that thing that makes even kids clump things into "Lego and other knock-off" stuff.
Once that's gone Lego will become more mundane and less valuable. To collectors this is already happening (as they are more sensitive). I fear the day it will happen to the "normies".

I mean, LEGO has been a successful company for quite a bit of time now, perhaps I'm spoiled, but improvement is something I expect.

I also see the lack of improvement as a very bad sign that things aren't right.

Also to elaborate on my earlier post on more detailed/realistic printing.
To me that's not what Lego is for - perhaps it's a nostalgia thing but for me minimalistic printing fits well with Lego's cartoony and wacky aesthetic.

More realistic and detailed prints fit well with Mega Construct's microfigures that want to be as close to the real thing as possible but in a small scale.
Lego figures were never designed to emulate reality, and when you blend the core minifig with printing that wants to be realistic (or close to it) it just adds two elements together that work against each other.

But that's just opinion.

If it was anything like it was in the 80s it would just be monocolored lines with the occasional field which you don't notice nearly as much as figures with the kind of complex prints you get on say CMF 19.

Yes, it's barely noticeable even to most people in this thread, but it is noticeable enough for me to ruin my enjoyment.
Now I see issues that are more apparent and are irking more people. To me that's not a good indicator that things are going in a good direction.

In my opinion they should either:
1. Return to less complex prints and by doing this create a less complex but fully "okay" product (which I feel is the right thing to do anyway in order to stay in tone with the "Lego spirit").
2. Do these complex prints and make sure they invest the time and resources that issues like these don't pop up.

Either do something right or don't do it at all - I suppose that's what I'm saying.
If things keep going at this rate I fear that by the time they notice that the average consumer has noticed things aren't "perfect" that average consumer has already dispelled the magic of Lego and is on his way to buy something else.

Look at Overwatch - I don't think it failed because of the game "failing" but most likely because Lego does best when working within a lore system that encourages creativity and imagination.
Yes, superfranchises like Star Wars work with Lego well because they're just that big and have such a huge grip on culture.

I suspect they're doing it because it's profitable. Kids like X movie, they want to relive X movie - we can sell them that. It's easy. Spam them with TV and other media then sell them what they see.
The only issue is that they could've done it without making the sets model kits of what you see on screen and leaving some room for creativity.

I wasn't that poster but I did see it and it is spot on.

They're doing Overwatch because Activision came to them with a briefcase full of money. It's not really a mystery, anon. It's not like Lego goes out and seeks out licenses anymore, potential licensees contact them in droves each year and ask them for a contract. Lego picks the ones they think are the most profitable, then dump them after the contract is out or the theme sells too poorly. Case in point, they did the TMNT license and when it failed it got picked up by Mega instead.

It's pretty funny, you can read in the interview about how management was adamant that Lego was a non-violent toy. "We don't make war toys". And yet they were totally okay with even the earliest Castle sets having swords, lances and polearms. Management said they only used these for "friendly competition" with is why catalogues and ads only showed tournaments and other stuff.

I think Forestmen was the first time they actually started showing conflict in ads, with the forestmen stealing from the Lion Knights and Black Falcons, and you got the prisoner transport around that same time.

Same with space where they put lots of guns on the spaceships but officially they were "scanners" and "equipment". Because Space was also TOTALLY not violent.

I know the render looks better but it's just an early CGI design. The finished one is in the bag, it's not "bad printing", they intentionally changed it. Just look at the visor print if you don't understand what I mean. The visor isn't just the case of a misprint, it is totally different from the render. It was intentionally changed at some point from a thin outline to a full "plate" application.

Yes the render looks better but it's not some kind of factory error that has totally transformed the print

Yeah but those are all late themes. Pirates only came around in 1989 by which point Castle had had pure conflict stuff for a good while, and Western is even later. I'm talking about the last part of the hippie Lego era from 1978 (introduction of the minifig) to 1988 (the last year of "Classic" Lego).

I understand that the machine in the Lego factory that applies the printing isn't actually malfunctioning as it prints each torso. That's not the issue people are talking about. The render looks awesome; the real-life version looks like shit, and the fact that Lego shows the awesome render with different colors than the real version is misrepresentation.

The designer at Lego decided he thought the black faceplate looked bad and changed it. He didn't know how people would react.

This has happened a lot with CMF series in the past. Many figures have had early preview pics with different (sometimes more detailed) paint or prints.

It's just the design process.

My NEETeuros arrived, so went shopping. A local "Lego store" has figs in clear bags, so there's no need to feel them out, which is nice. But otherwise the store isn't very special.

Sadly some of the figs seemed to be already sold out, like the adventurer and bounty hunter. So instead I decided to buy mummyfu, because you guys have been hyping her so much lately, heh.

Hopefully they'll restock at some point... I'll try visiting the store again later this month.

Every sample I've seen is blurry. Most likely the choice of light cyan on top of gold. The gold is a big more pigmented than regular colors so it muddles the print on top.
