Steelcore did really well, MMC's Femtarn thing got lots of positive reception from the design alone, and Perfect Effect's Arania (she's technically not BA) is impossible to find. Even niche characters with unfitting molds like MMC Commotus sold out by virtue of being cool as fuck. The Unrustable bastards did well as an original property until Spence crashed and burned any prospects of additional figures. So long as the design is good people will certainly drop the cash. It might help to have any original line able to stand in with other stuff that's out there (CHUG, MMC reformatted, etc)
The originals that failed were really niche or really subpar. FP's Glacial bots were not super successful due to its G1 style. Badcube's Captain Huff was just a shitty KO looking Huffer.
