Back when Hasbro was concentrating on 1:18 lines, most of the differences between the lines was just their price point. Their GI Joes cost like $5-7 while the Marvel Universe line was $~7. At first the MU figures weren't as articulated as the GI Joe line, but most of us chalked it up to the fact it was still new and they were playing it safe. As the line progressed, they imrpvoed on articulation to the point that the MU line was better than the GI Joe line.
So while the two lines sorta frog leaped over each other in improvements, the prices remained about the same, with MU figures costing about $2 more than GI Joes.
Star Wars is a bit harder to pin down, because their lack of improvements was always blamed on Lucas. Prices were about a dollar more than GI Joes, but they included a decent amount of accessories and even got a few BAF waves too.
With the 1:18 lines, GI Joe, Marvel, and Star Wars have all cost $20. Improvements only came from lines being brand new, so the new Overwatch and GI Joe lines are better engineered than Marvel and Star Wars.
Supposedly, every single line will now see a price increase, so it's just showing that Hasbro is just cheap and licensing costs are probably absorbed by just volume of sales. Possibly.
Whereas we've seen companies like Jazwares, Wicked Cool Toys, and Mcfarlane doing releasing 1:12 toys for $20 and getting more value from their releases. Same shit with 1:18, where these lines are actually cheaper than Hasbro's.
