I'd actually just read it last night and thought it was pretty good. It seems like the writer is basically trying to do what he would have preferred the Bay movies to be in terms of tone and scope; much more G1 influence, better balance between the robot and human drama, and bots who are actually treated like characters and not special effects.
Really, it was this specific panel that won me over. I love how he draws the alt modes as real vehicles. It really embraces one of my favorite things about the toys; the fact that these are robots in disguise. That's clearly a realistic truck right down to the underride guards, fifth wheel, decompressed suspension, and the air and power lines to the trailer. But it's flying out of a shuttle bay on the back of a huge spaceship. Making alt modes things that would be impossible for regular vehicles is one of the coolest things about playing with the toys for me, and it's such a shame that most media kind of ignores it. Like, I wanna see more vehicles jumping off of buildings, or tackling robots, or driving underwater or whatever.
