And since we never really had a formal year-in-review discussion; what'd you guys think of RDs (and mecha toys generally) in 2018? Was it a good year? What were your highlights or low points? What are you looking forward to for 2019?
I thought it was a solid year, with the ANIME releases continuing to kill it. Adding 0080 to the ANIME lineup was by far the highlight of the year for me and Kampfer is the RD I'm looking forward to the most. I also think pricing wasn't too bad this year, after retailer discounts (6K JPY for the Hy-Gogg is fantastically reasonable). I felt prices were reasonable for the size/engineering/accessories of RDs this year.
The higher end lines also had a great year with standout releases like the Metal Composite Wing EW, Metal Build Strike Gundam, or the Metal Build Gernsback, though that kind of leads into my lowpoint which would be the continuing influence of web exclusives. A lot of very desirable releases in 2018 were web exclusive, and even then several of those releases were STILL very hard to get. MC Wing EW, MB Astrea Type F, and the utter fiasco of the DX VF-31A (the low point of the year for me, grrr) were all very expensive web exclusives that were very hard to secure at reasonable prices.
