I'm not saying it was the norm or that we should have gotten them (swappable hands didn't really hit until the Iron Man II line, and even then it took a while for it to trickle down to MLs). I'm saying that in that time period before swappable hands, they chose to stick you with two bad options: one hand that appears to be measuring something, and one open-palmed one with a curiously raised index finger for some reason. The latter looked strange as a repulsor blast hand thanks to that finger, I don't get why they did it.
