Honestly, that set is beautiful and all, but I detest that Lego Ideas has become yet another factory mill for more loicense shit. As if Lego doesn't pump licenshit out enough already.
Great original sets constantly get shoved to the side now so gay movies or sitcoms can get a boring set of minifigs that vaguely look like the actors they're supposed to represent in a boring diorama box.

That looks nothing like Jack's house. It's mostly because they added an interior of small rooms. Only room I'd would salvage is the Christmas tree, which could fit inside the actual design. Spiral Hill and Town Hall also need some work

I found a triangulation fraudster on ebay, selling BNIB 10309 for less than retail with free shipping
I had bought 10280 from the old account (which got deleted sometime in the last few days) and it was drop-shipped from Walmart

I had no idea this was so common for lego sets, though the $150+ sets seem much less common for them to list (I'd imagine because more expensive purchases are more likely to trigger fraud systems)

Stolen debit cards are a much bigger pain, though, as during the time your bank is busy "investigating", you can't make rent
And then there's people who just don't look closely at their statements or don't know how to dispute charges

Ninjago, is the very definition of theme monopoly. They sucked up every theme idea possible eliminating the chance for new original themes to grow, and took potential new themes and turned them into a side gig for those Ninjago.
Heck Chima is even supposed to be a part of Ninjago, but for some reason the lazy writers for ninjago, can't even bother making one dedicated Chima episode in Ninjago, and instead of gave them 2 second cameos.

Some more Monkie Kid love. I bought the Power Loader Mech and HEAVILY modified it. I also built a spider mech for the Spider Villian minifig. The other minifig is in a spider themed go kart I made.

Nice job unfucking those legs and giving it a proper stance. Also I really dig what you did with the hips and torso. Whatever that specialty piece is really helps define the shape of the body. Glad you kept the cat on top too.
The spider mech for the villain character is also a massive leap from whatever the fuck pic related is. He actually looks like he could pick a fight with the other one and even out maneuver it now.

I'd like a little input from you lot if you'd be so kinda.

So I picked up the XL-15 (the Buzz Lightyear spaceship) on clearance the other day for a decent price. I have no interest in the movie, I just think the ship itself looks nice. But I don't want to build it as is, instead I want to build it in "my colours"; Black and Green with Orange highlights. Now I've done this before with a Y-Wing and a Naboo Starfighter and have an Eta-II (Jedi Interceptor) set I intend to do it with too. Furthermore I also want to attempt to make MOCs of a F-302 and a Viper MkII from Stargate and Battlestar Galactica in those colours to fill out what I refer to as "My Personal Hanger".

Anyway, what I'd like the input from you on, is how I should layout the colours. I intend to keep the underside black, but how should I replace the other colours?
Pic related are some rough ideas I've played around with in my head and think look alright, but I can't decide on which on is best. So what do you guys think? Which one do you prefer?

Bear in mind that they're only rough ideas and not a locked in final design, things probably will change during building, either due to parts not being available in the right colours or ideas/inspiration popping up as I build.

Castle Displayanon here, since my previous idea of having shelves feel like medieval 2fort has failed due to the two castles being way different in volume, size and build style im moving onto 2nd project of trying to give the medieval blacksmith a sideways opening format similar to Lion Knights for the sake of being able to place figs easier and more diverse display.

Hopefully the entire thing wont explode, though it will require a whole bunch of new shorter plates and bricks.

My favorite is C but I'd need images of your fleet to gauge the fit. I paeticularly like the top-and-bottom composition and contrast. It reminds me of the space shuttle because the black could be a thermal material for atmospheric entry. Just depends on if that's enough of your color palette to satisfy you.

For the bolder options, I think your strongest composition would be a fusion of B and E. Primarily black, green stripe on the fuselage, orange on wing pinstripe and wingtip. Maybe a tap of orange or red near the engine to get a flair of utility.

True, not that guy but i appriciated it when its from ideas set program, it validates and presents "amature" builders that got recognised by lego, its like a real deal recognition and feel good. When it comes to normal, lego hired workers I just see it as a corporate culture thing mainly for the workers themselves (which lego need to do nowadays to show their emplyes that they care). I dont have any ill feelings towards it, but i feel like its redundant, they design lego sets for life and get hefty check each month. It should be reserved for idea sets only.

Castleanon here, from most modern line you've got 3 out of 4, you lack Forest Hideout GWP.

Thats about it for new generation castle, if you want monsters for your set up- you can dip into Nexo Knights villain sets since those tend to feature some nice demons/stone golems that arent as high tech looking as protag figs.

For everything else there's the CMS figs that feature wide range of fantasy castle stuff, collecting those myself righ tnow.

Technic mechs would be great but you know they'd have to release them under a kiddo theme because it would confuse realismfags, the core demographic for technic. I've thought about the appeal of a technic seige engine line with deeply functional trebuchets, ballista, or rolling seige towers, but lego would insist on minifig scale and system pieces because muh castlebux. Also, a line of weapons would probably make TLG shit their checkered, pinstriped fairy pants. Most realistically I would like to see the technic line really blow the fuck out of the middle price range of $40-80 and flesh out a more diverse line of vehicle types that specifically avoid licenses. Unfortunately Technic is one of the more deliberate lines where the health of their line correlates directly with the health of their license agreements.

I got into game development via roundabout route, I began doing community projects here on 4chan on /v/ which gave me some baseline for how to work in teams , i was conscripted so i didnt had time to finish it so that had to be dropped , then I began doing Gamejams of various kinds- GBAjam, Ludum Dare, those are another good entryway into working with teams on short term small scale prototypes with potential to develop them into full working titles, eventually ended up working fulltime on a patreon project and now we've launched on Steam.

My suggestion is if you're an artist looking for work in the field, is to begin cooperation with others on various gamedev jams where you can find programmers and other likeminded amateurs, see whom you can work with and go from there.

The best way to see if gamedev is for you is to get into it and see if you can stick to a vision after the initial hype fades away.

Also I mod games on the side, another good activity to practice your art within an established framework without too much strain from deadlines or obligations.

I'm neither anon but I'm also a freelancer in the creative/toy product market. Mostly branding, /gd/ like Lego's prints, a few actual toy patents, and package design. When I was in that transitionary stage between creative work being a nugget of an idea and an actual plan/lifestyle change, the most important thing was always having something tiny, inconsequential, but important to you always in the works, and give yourself *deliberate time* in your schedule to engage with it. Even if it's an hour or less a day - and even if you spend that hour adding *nothing* - you're giving your brain a free space to play and engage with your environment without worrying about the results. As you develop your skills and prepare to take on work don't hesitate to add your favorites to your portfolio, even and *especially* if there was no client amd you just did it for fun. Not only are passion projects some of the best examples of anyone's work, but it demonstrates the raw potency and value of your skills by conveying that's your default state of mind. Design/art is a strange gooey world of mixed processes and urgencies. Pipeline and collaboration are a huge deal business-wise but for now I'd just focus on putting together a dream, producing things you like, and outting together a portfolio. Even if you feel like an impostor or that you're not skilled enough, rest assured for some small-scale projects when you're starting out, you'll probably be the best or only portfolio they get. And last thing, there is no working up to a living wage - start at living wage and work from there, you need the money and they need your art/design to sell a product. Some artists still struggle with this because they try to "win" clients that will never understand or respect them. And last LAST thing really study up on small business finance and documentation, especially making bulletproof proposals, quotes, invoices, NDAs, etc. Good contract writing will be your lifeblood. If you know how long the listing has been up it gives you a better read on whether to offer lower. I think you're making a good read but if it's been up for ten thousand years or five minutes it tells two different stories. It also hugely depends on what platform it's on. For a buyer price, if you want it go for it. It actually looks like a nice model with sort of MOC-ish mech aesthetic and 40 for those parts is pretty good buyer end.

Tried to do a little "weathering" on the walls and popping a plate divider between the slopes kinda makes the wall a tiny bit taller. I've been building Lego since I was probably 4 never had an issue with following the instructions or building at all
the 4+ instruction books are fucking insulting, a whole page is taken up to show you the 2 parts your going to add
not only that I was building knex and meccano at that age as well, so we're most of the young boys I knew, I never once heard a child say the instructions were too hard

I have 2 kids (8 and 10) They're book smart (straight A's) and are way more tech savvy than I was even in high school,but that's about as far as their "smarts" goes. They can handle "medium" difficultly Lego sets, but anything more complicated than a Lego Friends car set or something may as well be written in Greek to them. And they can't MOC worth shit because they have zero imagination.

I blame cell phones and tablets.

Looks cool. I would never buy for $300. My only complaint is scaling. What is up with lego scaling? I realize this is an ideas set and they made it scaled to mini-figure scale. However what is minifigure scale for lego Ideas line? On first glance, my first idea was this would look great with the fishing shack from 4 or 5 years ago. However that shack absolutely mogs this lighthouse's living space. Another example of lego scaling being all over the place is the Blacksmith. That thing mogs the Lion's Knight Castle's scale. I wish there was more of a standardization of scale whenever minifigures are included in a set. Architecture and things like the Titanic and such I can understand being mini scale, but those don't have minifigs.

Picked up two open box Mindstorms for 30 bucks. The boxes are in decent shape for their age, but one was shut with packing tape. They both still have all the parts I'm bags bags, which is really sweet. I need to inventory through the bags but I think they're 100% complete.

Listening to Islands and resorting my collection into a new assortment of tackle boxes and drawers. I got the boxes as a stack of one dozen from a local fisherman I know. I want multiples of the new farm animals so bad but I don't want to buy several copies of the 4+ farm set because its obviously an overpriced ripoff. With no indication that these new parts will ever show up on Bricks and Pieces, I find some South African bricklink store selling them cheaper than any others, as far as I can tell when converting ZAR to USD. (And this store doesn't have 10k copies of each these parts so I know they are not part of the chinese/pajeet scam.) Anyway, I just spent over 2,300 ZAR on fucking Lego animals bros. Those are hinges and 2x2 wedges.
As for the part, honestly, the only non-desperate use you can get out of them is as base connectors like they did on some of the Mario sets.
If it was an actual ratchet joint (like a small System version of that large Technic one that they use for all those mech-hips) it would've been amazing but instead it's probably one of the most worthless pieces in recent times.

Sort by type, not color. I use Sterilite three-drawer containers because you can pop the top off and stack multiple units to make towers of drawers. I use gallon ziploc bags filled with smaller bags that are sometimes themselves filled with smaller bags of different types of pieces.

These buildable figures look much more interesting than the hero factory or star wars ones. There seems to be a lot more traditional parts mixed with the CCBC ones, though admittedly I haven't been paying much attention. Agreed that venom looks the best out of the three, though I can't tell if it has the same waist articulation as the other two.

I recommend making the instruction pages 1920 x 1080 to give more room for page design, and also creating a preset for the font sizes/background colour/etc so your instructions are more uniform across the board
My biggest issue is sorting out steps, I leave it to the last minute and fuck myself by doing that - I also don't like how you can't set a custom background across the entire set of pages & have to copy/paste it one-by-one which sucks for doing watermarks
