I only went in on Dark Phoenix and Spiral. I have the last dark Phoenix so I’m still on the fence; colors were better, and she had more heads. But this one has double jointed elbows, and hopefully isn’t nearly as prone to shelf-diving.
Spiral was a no-brainer.
The rest didn’t interest me. Multiple Man is a maybe, but I only have (and only wanted) one of the X-Factor ones. This look is less desirable to me, even though he is a more fun figure. I hope I can snatch up a bunch on clearance at some point, whether to keep or sell.
I also grabbed Cyclops because I only want a Jim Lee costume on a non-Bucky cap body and I’m okay with removing the cel shading.
Lastly I grabbed Iron Man because I like his cartoon helmet and the other accessories are neat.

It’s a bit odd. Normally, with a multipack, you want one figure to be only available through it, so people have to buy the extras.
In this case, we thought it would be Mojo. But, seeing as he’s basically a one-time use sculpt, I can see why they’d want to release him as a deluxe too. But at the same time as the box set? Weird call.
So now Longshot is the draw; it’s not Dazzler because we have one in a very similar costume, and it’s not that Wolverine Amiibo. Cut to Longshot being revealed yesterday as a single figure. So now no one has a reason substantial enough to stomach the significantly higher price of the box set, especially if you only wanted Mojo and Longshot.

Unless you’re a moron like me, and you only care about Mojo but you want the bright yellow one.

From what I saw, $41 was the price Target honored for that one dude. It’s possible they made a mistake and he’s not supposed to be $41. Assuming he’s like MODOK ($50) plus the price increases of the last two years, $56 makes sense, even if it is stupid expensive. Hopefully, like MODOK, he’ll drop in price quickly.

Wow. This is some shit lol. I would have been fucking pissed if I'd ordered the box set, especially if it was from somewhere that doesn't easily accept cancellations. I don't know what Hasbro is thinking, it's almost like they're TRYING to burn bridges with fans.

That said, I really wanted this figure initially, but seeing it in plastic now, boy does it look bland. His skin could have used more texture and imperfections, and the color scheme is so dull. And he really could have used some colorful paint in his head-tendrils, as he is often drawn.

Almost certainly yes. If there's one thing Hasbro's good at, it's repeatedly milking shit. If there's still money to be made, by god they're going to reissue incremental updates for eternity.

Look at the last 10 years. Virtually every "perfect" version of a given character was later usurped by an incremental upgrade. Hell, we're getting updates now for figures that aren't even 5 years old yet. It's ludicrous. I don't think you have anything to worry about, FOMO is a fool's game when it comes to Hasbro. Just be patient. Look at what's happening with the Mojo pack right now.

I don't understand why Hasbro won't give female bodies a calf swivel. It's kind of mandatory if your ankle joint doesn't swivel at both ends like a Revolver joint, otherwise you end up with really awkward wide stances with broken-looking ankles. Elektra's left ankle is getting there in this pic, and it only gets worse the wider the stance gets. It also means less stability in said wide poses, cause you can't fine tune balance by altering the angle of the footprint.

I like pinless joints and all, but I would much rather they fix this first.

Are they priced a little higher than similar 3D printed accessories on the market? Maybe, but not nearly enough to throw a big whiny baby fit over like this.

sometimes I think about my salary and how many hours I had to work to pay for this shit and it really puts it into perspective. It's more likely there is a surplus budget because the Retro Cards don't come with BAF pieces. Up until now that money was just getting pocketed by Hasbro, Spiral is one of the rare times they actually tried to give us $25 worth of toy. And yes, I do think the Retro Cards are kind of a scam. The build-a-figures are so shit. Over the last year we have Infinity Ultron (poorly proportioned, cheap marbley plastic instead of silver paint), Controller (zzzz, shitty looking). And loads of them have filler figures.

I don't know, but even for a "naked" Maleev Daredevil, the figure's is just too dark and desaturated. It needs to be brighter to give that same effect, both the body and the logo. Also that sort of dark red only works if they actually bothered giving painting on the gloves/boots with a brighter red.

Honestly it's not that big of a deal. I don't mind the paler color, I can paint the nails and the wires, and I can live without the flecks on his skin. For being the "premium" painted one that comes in a pricier box set you'd think the paint on him would actually be leaps and bounds over the standalone one.

As someone that's been waiting years it's a bit of a disappointment. The head is only marginally better than the last. The logo on the chest is just painted on and not great. No boot or glove cuts, despite them making a new Vulcan mold that has lines just for that. Terrible RYV body. Belt and batons are shitty reuse. Tiny shoulders.

Me personally, I don’t think it’s a waste of $20 to have a figure on your shelf for five years before upgrading. I’ve gotten my money’s worth. Especially when you can usually sell the old version for more than you got it for, even after the new one gets revealed.

I bought the RYV for Spinneret as one of my Spider-Women (waiting for them to eventually do a classic Spider-Woman with the Red and yellow), and kitbashed the Spider-Man with my Retro for the pinless, because I absolutely hate how shitty the back spider logo is for RYV.

The scraps will be for a Spider-Man 2099 custom. I'd just need to figure out how to do a proper web cape that doesn't look janky like Mezco's.

This is a little thing, but I really like the way the edges of the shoulder joint are rounded and tapered inward like that instead of being sharp 90 degree edges. It really softens the look, and makes it feel more premium.Kinda wish they'd do this for all the edges, like the bicep cuts.

Yes, he still holds up. His sculpt and proportions are comic accurate and for a c-lister they did a decent job for figures of that time. Sure if they did a new one I've no doubt it's be an improvement but it's Doc Samson so the chances are low and it'd probably be the ponytail Byrne version if they did.

This is one of the strangest Marvel Legends I've ever owned. The thing is solid and heavy as fuck. I'm not sure what kind of plastic they used, but it's dense as hell and feels like I could knock someone out of I pitched it at them. Articulation is wonky, especially with the legs. I actually love the look of the suit, but I'm still not sure how I feel about it in toy form. You do get a lot of shit with it, and it's probably one of the few modern Marvel Legends that feels like it's worth the $33 price tag.
