Got a nice mail call today. Genuinely impressed with MM and despite the backpack Wildrider is pretty solid too. I think the combined Menasor is going to pretty tight.

And it's just nice to get an Arcee that isn't just a robot lady inside a car shell.

Hey gang, I want to pick up this Newage Grimlock. This specific edition seems to be sold out everywhere save for ebay. But it seems a bit fishy. The toy is way cheaper than other sources and it's coming from China.

But apart from that, these sellers are all highly rated, and the toys seem more or less legit. Should I be worried or should I just go for it?

So I wasn't the only one who missed this because it was already sold out by the time I got the message that it had dropped. Same thing happened to me with Draculus as well - by the time the phone app sent the notification, people had already bought the damn thing out even though I'm a Premium member.
It sucks, but hopefully there will be a restock - there's no way their ENTIRE inventory has already had dibs called on it.

In the original series bible for Masterforce, Darkwing/Dreadwind were supposed to be a brother/sister pair and Dreadwind aka Buster's human Godmaster was going to be a sister.

They changed said human character to a boy midway through production right before h and said book where that pic is from only has the early female design.

Motormaster is the best Legacy figure IMO.
Jhiaxus is a close second but I rank him just below MM because he has the benefit of his alt mode being an afterthought, so all the design effort could go into his fantastic bot mode.

Transformers Car Robots J-Four

Turns out I'm not done talking about trains yet.

Like the Build Team from however many months ago, I own the Japanese version.
So this isn't Midnight Express. This is J-Four!

J-Four turns into a bullet train. I'm not trainfag enough to know what type, but I can say it's white and blue with a pleasing yellow stripe down the center.
He roll very smoothly on his four barbell castors.
And other than being a square tube of plastic that's about it. There's a hook in the back in case you ever felt the need for this guy to be in front of another train toy.

I don't think it's any secret that J-Four is part of a combiner.
I also don't think it's any secret that combiner components end up being compromised in some way....

Anyone worried about the clear plastic on the MP train boys; know that they learned it by watching this.
There is so much clear plastic here. We're talking the entirety of those enormous shins as well as the whole torso block.
Off yellow clear plastic painted over.

I like the little smirk J-Four wears. The red eyes work for me too, better than they should on a good guy. Maybe because they're closer to energon pink.

J-Four has a little gun made from the train hitch components.

He has posability but he's bloody awkward as you might expect.
Ball jointed shoulders on clear plastic balls. Double jointed elbows. No swivels anywhere.
Neck's on a ball and hinge, so it can look around just fine.

Hips are ratcheted on both axis. half an inch below that is the knee, surprisingly not ratcheted.
Thigh swivel though, so that's nice.
Ankles have transformation movement but nothing useful as articulation

The polls exist as a means for Hasbro to determine what's popular/viable and allow them to course corrct on what to make. The POTP poll is the biggest example in that it showed Hasbro that Beast Wars was popular and Warden's assumptiosn that fans hated "Beast Wars" just like him was wrong and that the JG1 was not nearly as popular as they have been lead to believe. The TItans' poll with Trypticon showed that they were using polls to settle internal debates (will a decepticon cityformer sell was apparently an issue during the creation of Thrilling 30 according to an ex-employee). Likely the recent polls such as Siege/POTP are more a menu of items and the polling numbers determine priority of when they get a release.

The recent Animated poll is almost certainly a means for them to draw up a priority target list of characters that fans will buy.

So I did pick up SS Grindor a while ago, and I like him a lot. The hands and wrists were a nice touch. One of my problems with him was that he doesn't tab together all that well, especially around the arm pits. Was it worth the 50 bucks? yeah. Do I need the masterpiece fig? probably not. I just see the sale, I've got the funds and I live pretty responsibly, but if I keep impulse buying I won't be. I guess my justification is I'd like an excellent version of Blackout, Barricade, and the beast Wars cast. Don't really care about that many other characters.

You can usually find reviews at least somewhere on youtube, usually chinese ones.

And the whole "funding theft" thing, fuck it bro, Hasbro rakes us plebs over the coals. Honestly with how much they are charging for their shit (example, the new Tonkanator Devastator plastic is so cheap and thin it feels like a biglots KO) I find it easier now to buy 3rd party stuff because the price at this point is negligible.

I just meant (in my own asshole ways) that 3rd party legit or KO, even if the quality dips a bit, If the price is right, I say jump.

I recently bought a few KO's Including the Ironfactory KO TM2 Megatron for $35, and some scout class size 3rd party KO devastator for $25, and for the price, I couldnt be happier. You know?

I also just bought some 3rd party KO megatron set from amazon for $20 that comes unassembled, so Im pumped for that cunt to show up.

Do what you want, but in my experience, most KO's of 3rd party are visually good. The only one I ever had that was total shit (and was still good for the size) was that giant size black sixshot from a few years back. It was loose, and the head was different, but for fucking around or even display, it was still pretty slick.

Good luck either way.

Unless if you're a completionist not really. If you don't care about getting them all I'd recommend just getting Megatron, Tarantulas, and Inferno. Waspinator is also fine but the T30 one is better imo

Scorponok does suck major shit though... Its like they spent the budget on everything else and have $10 left and gave it to the diversity hire autistic kid to design.

Tarantulas and Black Arachnia are pretty amazing, and surprisingly use completely different molds, although they do share the same weapon.

I havent got antman yet, but he looks great too.

I appreciate that, as hard as it is to believe. I did manage to grab myself a copy. Motormaster is sick as fuck btw. A lot of the gripes about this figure are washed away in hand, and I have no major QC issues.

Regarding scalping them; considering they’re not moving at all, it would seem no one else wants them anyway. Also, I am currently living off my eBay store and I have long transcended past feeing guilty about scalping. It’s simple capitalism, and I’m not hurting anyone.

She's decent but she's not perfect. I'll probably buy any upgrade kits that release but I think the T30/Legends mold is still the best official retail Arcee.

I love G1 Arcee but I've still not found one I consider perfect yet. The MP is good but her backpack is out of control. I've got a few of the 3P versions, but they don't really do it for me either.

I wouldn't mind something like this, but without the cars on the arms and calves. Instead, make them additional weapons/units that can be attached to the trailer. Basically, Prime in a power suit rather than a gestalt.

It'd be fun for me to have all the parts form an armored trailer with like some minicons in it. Then when you go to super mode the trailer forms the aromor and the minicons become the offensive power. Basically have the trailer be the shell and just mix and match various mini cons as you desire.

The QC issues and poor engineering certainly doesn't help. I'm still trying to wrap my head around how they fucked up as bad as they did, even with the individual bots. Imagine waiting two years to get this mess together. During CW you just had to wait about 4 months and you had a complete menasor and while it wasn't perfect you weren't blowing as much money even with inflation factor in.

While I don't have specifically the Street Fighter repainted versions, I own the Legends G2 Megatron and Chaos on Velocitron Laser Prime that use the same mold as Megatron/Vega and Optimus/Ryu. They're both really fun toys - Megatron's tank mode is nice, big and pretty convincing, and the jet mode doesn't look too horrible; Prime's jet mode isn't all that convincing, but the truck mode is pretty nice and bot modes on both characters are good and have enough range of motion that they still hold up today. Laser Prime, in particular, has far superior arm motion than the new Legacy one that came out, and can actually lift his sword up over his head if you rotate the pauldrons a little. The Street Fighter crossover pair is 100% identical, so they'd be fun toys n theory, but I'm personally not a fan of those awkward fleshy paint schemes - they look a bit too uncanny on a Transformer. Besides, I really like the colors on my guys - I've been using the Megs as a stand-in for Archforce and Prime as Sureshot, and their colors really make them stand out on a shelf.
Can't say anything about Hotshot/Ken or Arcee/Chun-Li, other than the fact that they're based on good toys but have creepy colors. If you don't mind the paint schemes, you should enjoy them just fine.

i want my transformers, being sentient beings, to be more super robot, and my zoids being more robot animals to be more real robot. but the latter has been goin the very opposite way for a while now. what was invented as a military thing has been crammed to fit the 1v1 fighting game mold
and of course transformers that came from diaclone will have that aspect which.. i like there. the repair bay is something for the human pilot to use.

Well, again, they're fantastic toys. It's the paint schemes that may be a little off-putting for some. If you're cool with Megs and Prime looking like fleshies, then you'll love the hell out of 'em. Both toys are triple-changers, they're Headmasters/Titanmasters and have places on both of their alt modes plus their guns for their little buddies to sit, and Megs can even have his Fusion Cannon mounted to his shoulder to replicate his G2 look if you wanted. Also, both of them have their jet mode wings on their backs, which means you can unfold them and give them a flying form in robot mode as well. Lots of fun - far better than the modern Siege/Earthrise Megatron or Legacy Optimus Prime, if a little on the squat side proportions-wise, but both figures hold up fantastically. If you like them, don't mind the colors, and are seeing them on sale, get them.

You might find it in a store or online later, but you might not, that preorder ensures you'll have it. Some figures the preorders seem unneeded like Legacy Soundwave, others it saves a lot of headache like Velocitron Cosmos, but in the end the idea is you get what you want and don't have to go to stores frequently hopping to find it more so if your area is full of divorced chuds and/or incel reeers that shop and collect too and suck the fun out of the hobby.

The clip wisely minimally reveals anything and avoids prematurely showing the shows hand beyond the teasing reveal that Megatron is apparently no longer considered a bad-guy, and seems to be on at least cooperatory terms with Prime and the Autobots, whereas all of the other Decepticons shown, seemingly are still hostile towards them.

To a child's developing mind, learning a lesson is part of entertainment.
To an adult, they've learned the lessons so they're more interested in examining angles they hadn't considered yet.
There's a reason kids shows and adult shows are written wildly different.
There's a reason why tf shows that start to age up their audience, like beast machines and tfprime, usually lose their younger base and toysales drop.
A lot of the stories are just incompatible with both demos because they need something different to be entertained

I take it you haven't watched RiD? Season 3 has Starscream in it and he explains how he survived the Predicons at the end of the Prime movie. Also Soundwave breaks out of that space warp the kids trap him in, Ratchet shows up as well as the three kids grown up, cementing at that the show was at least a decade after the events of Prime.

Transformers Car Robots J-Seven

The second member and least compromised of the group.

J-Seven's much darker grey colour sets him well apart from his teammates.
Though like J-Four he does have a nice yellow stripe to add some colour.

Also like J-Four he rolls very well on his castor wheels. Like a train should.
Again, I'm not a trainfag so there isn't much for me to comment on, he's another square tube with a slopey front end.

Season one was fine it was just a bit of a snooze with it's Sentai monster of the month style, the lack structure didn't show till the last few episodes of Season one where they summoned Megartonus and Ghost Prime came in to help.

Season 2 onward was more or less more Transformers Prime in how the story structure work and many of the episodes tied back to Prime

And really, it's just his arms being weedy that soils it.

To me, J-Seven's biggest design fault is that the robot mode has the exact same profile as the alt mode. If there was one extra step that spread the hips wider or something. But whatever he's a sleek bullet train robot.

J-seven's bright yellow head is very striking, the green eyes pop too. I like them more than J-four's pink eyes. A lot of the clear parts of the clear plastic is exposed here too. Gray and dull green is an odd mix but it sorta works.

It's definitely unusual that J-seven comes with a shield and no gun.

Articulation wise he's different but about the same as J-four. Ball jointed shoulders and hips.
90 degree knees but the thigh to shin ratio is so off it barely matters. No swivels in there.
There are swivels at the waist and neck. You gotta work to make that head turn, I did at least.
And his elbows can bend 90 degrees forward and about 100 degrees backward.

Optimus in RiD2015 suddenly became an inexperienced rookie who needs to relearn the ropes to fight again. Transformers Prime more like Transformers Fetch quest because god damn everything in TFP is just "oh no ancient cybertronian technology is on earth and we must prevent megatron from obtaining it" for the entirely of the show.
Only memorable thing about TFP is the voice cast and even in terms of voice acting, the beast era still has the greatest casting of all time.

Rewatching TFPrime just makes me realize that the show had such a conflicting focus but all of it is easily blamed on Hasbro's own stupidity with their aligned continuity shit that somehow makes the Nemesis not be Trypticon despite having an episode that shows the fucking warship is a living being kept in its vehicle form forever after the events of FoC to be revealed that the Nemesis in TFP isn't Trypticon or some garbage like that.
But ignoring the nonsense that was the misaligned continuity, the only problem i have with TFP is the power scaling more than anything else, one episode Megatron sweated hard to beat a mere Insecticon, next episodes the Insecticons get killed by a single shot out of Arcee's blasters.

Megs can one shot them just fine with his canon as well as any one in the show. They are all in serious shit if they have to fight those bugs hand to hand. That's what happen in that fight with Megs was he was ambushed and had his canon disabled. In fact that's what Ratchet was worried about when the swarm showed up was when they run out of ammo/energy they wouldn't have the means to fight them "hand to hand, even in a fair fight"
