I just used a hammer and a thin screwdrive, it's just one pin and the whole backpack is off.

I did this because I prefer the pylons and just keeping the car as a seperate part since the transformation is annoying. None of the non-tranforming ones fit the mainline aesthetic imo.

I've since gotten the 86 one, it's fine enough but I wish the wheels could fold in on the backpack.

You can move the windscreens on the legs to the sides if you want more proper knee articulation (though I think the windscreens in pic-related are swapped around. Should still be possible without doing that but the windscreen would be upside down).

it just seems like bad proportioning.. once again short torso long thighs, but this time the shins aren't also-long, so it doesn't match very well. and his upper arms look really short. it's hard to tell, but the fact that none of the shots here show his arms extended out plainly kinda suggests maybe they're being hidden.

What you see from Mark's instagram is what you get. Impressive for what it is, better than the unstable Universe toy that's for sure. And he still retains the Minicon port on the back, not sure if there's enough clearance but should be able to plug some there, especially Jolt to give him flight capabilities.

What are the best Transformers transformations? A few of the original diaclone bots stand out to me. The seeker, where the nose-cone of the plane rotates down around the cockpit and the whole structure then rotates as the fuselage splits to accommodate the chest and the parts that moved out become the arms is so good despite the fact that they need gloves.
I feel like all the diaclone bots were made in a way that you can imagine the whole transformation happening in your mind elegantly at 5x speed.

Also wish his fists were a bit bigger, but on the other hand I can see why they moved the windshields down to his legs now; they're so much longer than his forearms, they'd extend way past if they were up there.
That said, hmm, I think I'd need a video at least before I decide if I like the way they ARE handled or not... I'm glad that they're adjustable for sure, I just worry if it's not too flimsy? Idk, we'll see.

Also, glad that he has a minicon port in vehicle mode, but I also wonder if it's possible to port one in in his robot mode? Here's a 360 view of his render, I can't really tell:

I watched Armada for the first time recently, the Japanese version with subs, and he was pretty fine. Youthful and a bit bright-eyed, but pretty calm/chill and respectable - not at all obnoxious... I'm betting it was a result of the shitty dub if anything, probably. Can anyone confirm?

Afaik Optimus/Megatron are swell dubbed, but having partly ignored it during my childhood, watching Micron Legend instead of Armada means I'd be robbed of their stellar voices..

Honestly? I was able to swap to the english dub in my copy, but after trying it outta curiosity a couple times, holy damn I wanted nothing to do with it. Optimus' and Megatron's VAs are talented, but if you asked me, even they couldn't pull in solid performances; they both came off like they were just reading monotonously off the script. The dub was so rushed, I wouldn't be surprised if they just genuinely had zero voice direction. I know for a fact also that either Armada or Energon (could be both) often recorded the VAs individually, as opposed to scheduling them to appear at the same time, so it could also be because none of the VAs had anyone else to really bounce off of IRL.

Sadly no, he does not come with any Minicon ports for whatever reason. They could've given him the one on the tail between the 2 Null Ray Cannons where Swindle would powerlinx on in the anime but assumingly due to the small space that would make it unusable.

Universe Hot Shot tried to reinvent the formula with a more complex transformation scheme, the result however meant that the shoulder kibble kept getting in the way of each other making posing incredibly difficult, the vehicle mode will not stay tabbed together because there's not enough clearance and for whatever reason his hands aren't 5mm so he can't really hold any weapon whatsoever. Even worse is that the Universe toy is gimped, it was supposed to come with dual exhaust flamethrowers but their omission was due to budget reasons and it compounded to the problem it was suffering.

The Japanese Henkei version did come with the dual exhaust flamethrowers since they don't give a shit about strict class price points but it didn't really make the toy all that better.

The dub performance got better by the last arc since I assume everyone got used to it. But you still had to go through the earlier episodes so it was a moot point. I wish Armada was revisited or remade to acknowledge the fact that it was Cartoon Network's strict schedule and Hasbro's greed to get the anime out before the Japanese could even finish animating it or get a finalized script as well that resulted in the poor quality we got. But of course we get another G1 retread, somewhat literally with Earthspark.

It’s less greed and more the fact that US action shows didn’t really get seasonal release schedules, but usually premiered July-October . This is important because having toys on shelves starting around this time will keep them with shelf space for the Christmas season. Retailers, especially back then, were more likely to buy large orders if a line had new media. Transformers had nearly died with BM, RiD did well so getting a new line was extremely important

If you were a kid in the 90s/2000s, think about how many action shows with a toy line you watched as a kid and look up their premier, chances are it was July-October when they had their first ep.

Generations Selects is a line for obscure characters made in limited numbers using existing molds from the main line. It's just a way to make more money off a mold with minimal work put into it, while also giving an obscure character a chance to get a figure that normally wouldn't.
It's how we got Black Zarak and the Diaclone repaints(and apparently Metrotitan soon).

however it's also used just for other easy repaints, like toy accurate colour Galvatron and Cyclonus.
So really anything that'll sell okay while getting another use out of a mold.

I've noticed all the reused Titan Returns molds have been quite floppy as far as below the waist is concerned.
For me its Diaclone Twin Twist, 2pack Punch/Counter Punch and now Fangry.
Fangry's probably the loosest out of em all but being the loveable goof that he is I don't really mind too much.

Probably because it was planned as supplementary to the proposed Energon Monsters that would most likely transformed or split into Energon weapons. But clearly that plan fell through early in production maybe because having an entire figure out of translucent plastic is a bad idea? Only speculation, but whatever may be the reason they were replaced by the Pretenders, but the codename still stuck around until the reveal.

The ER seekers are a complete reversal of the usual old vs new debates we have.
Normally the older figures arguably look better but have worse articulation.
Meanwhile, ER has arguably the best looking CHUG seekers but they have substandard articulation.

Just got this stud! My initial impression is pretty typical. He looks awesome and articulation is satisfactory. Of course has his imperfections as well. Straight out of the box I have one extremely loose hip swivel and minor paint slop on the windshield. Also a questionable design choice; his rear bumper, which is painted silver, ends up on the bottom of his feet. RIP that paint.

I got Minerva yesterday. While I was fiddling with it I noticed that the waist turned about 120 degrees one and stopped and 0 degrees the other way

This definitely bugs me. Take my new Ironhide for example. Forget the dumb design decisions and blatant qc issues; this figure is covered in sprue marks, scuffs, scratches and other tiny blemishes all over the place. It’s the type of stuff your mind just omits eventually but what I’m saying is why? Why are we still getting half assed stuff in 2022? I don’t understand how we grew to accept such imperfection? I don’t understand why it is so difficult for a company that makes toys to make them perfect. I prefer the colors and just the general body of the single Siege release, but I like the silver drill in the Amazon release more but dislike the colors and head, and then I prefer the head of the 3-pack one the most but don't want the decepticon insignia, and bleugh.

He can hang upsidedown.

Overall best of this wave. Surprisingly good articulation including a rotating waist and ankle rockers. Also lots of paint apps and details like the stripes on his arms and gold eyes. Very nice.

Only cons is the arms don't really peg in plane mode and the axe is tricky to store too. Or maybe it's a wrench? The original toy has it too.

I'm a sucker for customization and seeing this pisses me off? We don't have that beautiful missile pod seen prominently on the top right and the potential with the Red Cog release. Seriously, if Energon Monsters stayed Energon Monsters instead of being replaced by Pretenders while retaining the codename, we could've gotten a return of Energon's best gimmick.

Hang on, Legacy's play pattern was customizable Energon Weapons just like the Energon line even though it was phased out as quickly as it was revealed the former. Now Evolution play pattern resembles Armada/Cybertron gimmick but moreso on the latter with flip out or integrated weapons that are done manually. Does this mean 2024 will be the return of Minicons as it's play pattern of the year?

well it has a thumb on each side. I love thumb on each side, but it makes chopping no longer a thing. and would you wanna chop with your guns? they're kinda delicate.. this is the problem. i'd rather see more like, back-of-the-hand mounted small guns, forearm-mounted guns, that kinda thing.

Transformers Generation Sergeant Kup

I'm not 100% on whether this truck is retro-futuristic or retro-retro

What I do know for sure is that this truck instantly tells you you're dealing with an old man.
You can also instantly tell this toy was made in an era with some budget.
Painted bumpers, pinned wheels, and separate pieces of plastic for the windows and lights.
All little touches of luxury that we miss a lot of the time now.

While judging how well stamped on Kup's auto-badge is I noticed the Ironhidey false face behind the windshield.
Something else of note is the cheeky weapon storage. It's just strapped underneath but the gun's barrel pokes out a bit to become a second exhaust.

There's just something about this toy that drains my creativity.
Probably why it's been on my desk for days waiting for me to say something about it.

It does have nice things about it. Like wrist swivels and ankle tilt and double jointed elbows that let the forearms move upwards and inwards.
Other than that Kup is pretty much just a normal robot man with a very normal gun.
The most buzz this toy got when it was new was his freakishly freaked out face and how fast people were to replace it with 3P options.

Sort of a common theme among Kups.

I can tell you several things besides the collar that i'd change
have those shin armor pieces swing up and over the knee, then have those side panels hinge to fold over the shin space.
and maybe try to get the big forearm panels up onto the shoulders samurai-style or.. work the nose of the truck, the grille part, into some nice pauldrons for him so he doesn't have such bare little round shoulders.

Rescue Bots Dinobot Optimus Prime. I always thought his design was pretty sick. He used to be what i affectionately refer to as a “thrift store rockstar” as I had seen him there very frequently.
