I will never understand why so many super hero figures are just.. a naked, spray painted body. No interesting clothes, no impressive details.. just a human male body. That's it. And a lot of the time, the paint isn't even cleanly applied. Next to no accessories either.

Holy shit. Fuckin casuals on this board I swear. Are you all underage? Superheroes were drawn in skin tight costumes because it was easier and faster for artists to draw them. Also, characters like Superman were meant to emulate the strongmen of the 20s and 30s who often wore leotards similar to superhero costumes. Also is why a lot of characters wear their underwear on the outside.

It's genuinely embarassing how little you guys seemingly know about the source material of the toys you spend hundreds of dollars on.

Ok here's the real redpill: We got into Marvel due to X-Men The Animated Series as well as Spiderman TAS and some of the other 90s cartoons like the Iron man cartoon. So we know the general beats, but not the depth and breadth of the comics over decades and decades.

The comics are too impenetrable, you go into them and have no idea what's going on or else you have to read huge background information--or you have to go look at reading lists to keep you up to date on prerequisites for specific books.

I tried reading that Xmen Avengers Eternals crossover (probably not the best choice I admit but it was easily available to try) and I didn't recognize like 85% of the characters or why some characters were in different situations than I expected them. One thing I like about DC is they have some self contained stories, and maybe Marvel does this too, but for example they have the Sean G Murphy White Knight trades that are self contained, their own story outside normal continuity. Same for Last Knight on Earth, another one where you basically just have to know the barest backstory of who Batman and a few characters around him are.

We already know the statement isn’t 100% true: at various points in time, $350 would’ve gotten us the base set, OR the base set plus Robbie, OR the base set plus Robbie’s head. Maybe $350 doesn’t cover the base set plus Robbie’s head plus Madelyne Pryor, but still, that leads me to believe an extra figure doesn’t kick the profit margin down to 0% (meaning they’d be releasing the set at cost) but rather someone up high has decided this HasLab needs to make 30-50% profit margin and that can’t happen if they give too much stuff away for $350. They’d rather not make it at all if they don’t clear X% of profit per unit.

Yes. The original Reavers were a cadre of no-names and only three "named" Reavers: Pretty Boy, Skullbuster, and Bonebreaker. They debuted in Uncanny X-Men #229; the above mentioned "name" characters escaped the X-Men in that issue and the no-name Reavers were forced into the Siege Perilous and never seen or mentioned again.

Could have tossed in some extended hands an a alternate head with the cables coming out of his eyes had they not half-assed the figure.

They stopped the randomly inserted unpainted variants since sometime in the summer -- which were a valid complaint because for online orders someone might get them instead of a painted figure. That was egregious I agree, but thankfully its over now due to fan backlash.

The shitty gold variants didn't matter since they're listed separately; you just don't buy them and you're fine. For Exclusives, every toy company with any remote size does them and no one can help it.

Also I don't remember nor can I find evidence of McFarlane having variant cover art on Spawn 1-99 during the 90s. Issue 100 definitely did but that was already in the year 2000. Now he does them all the time, but it isn't currently 90s which was when you seemed to claim he helped ruin comics. I figured you were going to say he brought in an edgy blood and guts style or something rather than variant covers of all things.

There were no. Variant covers for spawn, the only variant covers I recall from the time were enhanced gimmick covers and news stand covers. So basically it was just a difference of direct market versus mass market covers. Now they did repack spawn #1 with an action figure but there were so so so many copies printed they had to do something.

Because each line has its own manager and staff.

For whatever reason, there’s no standard across board for their action figures. Each manager runs the line as they see fit. It’s why you get weird issues, like different articulation standards, or different 1/12 scales even.

Mattel does the same thing. Not that it’s an excuse, but it seems to be common for how Hasbro and Mattel run things.

What’s happening is what everyone predicted months ago: prices went up, and now they’re getting “discounted” because they didn’t move very quickly.

They expected that by raising prices from $22 to $25 (~13% increase), they could lose 13% of their sales and still maintain the same profits with a higher margin. They were wrong, stock is now sitting taking up space, and they’re having to mark things down to cover their losses.
Venom Knull 2-pack was supposed to release in December, and not only is it already out, it’s already like 25% off.

Supply chain 101 is anything sitting in inventory is an asset (positive), unless it doesn’t sell as quickly as expected, which makes it a liability (negative). They gotta clear this shit out because more stuff is on the way.

This means license fees don’t add additional costs to production, and they can reuse a body so many times that it doesn’t really matter how expensive it was to make the first time around. What happens if Disney pulls the marvel license and there were PR parts being used in ML? Disney technically owns the stuff used to make Marvel Legends, so do they own the parts used from PR? Morg was probably the herald I was least interested in, but I think he's turned into my favorite part of the Galactus set.

I imagine we'll get Air-Walker eventually, but I really hope we get to see Red Shift and Stardust some day. If the tooling for Stardust is too much to justify on its own, make it a twofer and reuse it for Death Adder you fucks.

Same. Galactus is fantastic but there's only so much you can do with something that big, while Surfer and Nova are so very basic and Surfer is already shit by virtue of the fact that RYV Spidey exists, so the possibility of a better figure already exists.
Meanwhile Morg seems to have had some genuine effort put into him. His articulation is decent, his sculpt is great and even his paint is good, with a wash on his hair and skin and a matt finish for his pants. The only thing I wish he had are some alternate hands and maybe an effect piece for his axe.

Just got my Galactus! Heads up for folks still waiting for theirs; I didn't get a shipping notice, but I did receive a text message yesterday from FedEx informing me I'd have to sign for a package today.

Galactus and his heralds all look wonderful in-hand. Only really messed with Frankie so far and she'll need some heat to free up a couple stuck joints, thus the lame posing, haha. Absolutely love those effect stands they made for Frankie and Surfer though, such a great idea to have them work both with Galactus and on their own. Extremely happy with this set so far.

I got Marvel Select Titanium Man on Wednesday and had been marveling at what a chunky figure he was, but he sure got dethroned quickly, haha. Titanium Man is still great, though!

He’s okay. I like him well enough, he’s got decent articulation and his proportions aren’t awful. The major downsides are playing the QC lottery, his limb color differing slightly from his painted torso, and the mechanical legs. As much as I want to like the waldoes, they tend to droop and bend under their own weight, so mine look crappy after a week or two of being posed. I think a thicker plastic was necessary here. They can be fixed with boiling water but still.
Overall a pretty good figure. Def not worth $32, but he’s been going on sale lately.
