Any recommendations? I almost spring for the new three pack but just couldn’t convince myself it was worth it for figures that at best would be stand-ins for (hopefully) better versions down the line. I saw in-hand pics of and DD looked horrible, while Bullseye looks the same as far as I can tell as the previous (with different costume).

Those are prototypes that are 3D printed and painted. Molds/tooling is the expensive part of the process where the steel molds are cut. That hasn't been done yet.

Why would he? He doesn't have any double jointed limbs. All single joints/swivel hinges are insert molded and always have been pinless (Shoulders, wrists, ankles, old female elbows, etc)

Just finishing up a comic Mr. Knight using some parts from the MCU version. just needs finishing white spray touches

Holy fuck what was Hasbro thinking with these hips from back then. I originally thought that hip articulation was limited because they didn't cut deep onto the top of the hip.

Instead, the idiots fucking fused the ball joint with a hard plastic capsule AND then put the hips over it.

Wanted to see how the figure looks (I do also have a comic Mr. Knight headsculpt on the way but this looks pretty good all things considered). Still need to isopropyl and clean up the neck + arms, but overall I'm happy with the recipe.

Recipe:
Retro JJJ Vest + Body + Arms
Mr. Knight Legs + Hands (Gloved + Fists) + Weapons
Cowboy Wolverine feet (because I absolutely hate how chunky the MCU Mr. Knight feet look).

Once that's finalized, I just need to spray final coating and topcoat on the body + legs for that consistent white.

Cap was the only one worth the price imo and even that was pushing it. It was only worth it because of the ton of accessories we got and because the figure looks just so damn good. They could've included a shield that doesn't have hikes in it for the price but I have like a dozen Cap shields sitting in a drawer at this point. It was not biggie to find one that worked.

3D printing is literally only for prototyping. It takes HOURS to print a single figure and it won't be as durable as injection molded plastic. In comparison, it takes a few seconds for injection molded plastic parts and they are infinitely more durable. Obviously they'll always use the tried and true plastic injection molding for figures.

Regardless, the print time is still several hours so 3D printing will never be used for mass production of figures so it's a moot point.

I own both and while the Mafex is definitely the better figure the ML isn't bad by any means either. I like having both since the Mafex is clearly based on Todd's art whereas the ML fits more of a Secret Wars #8 look, which is fine by me. I'm glad to have both.

Ronan's costume changes a few times throughout that whole run. Towards the end he is basically wearing his classic Kirby outfit just like the figure, only it had white accents instead of green which I could easily paint if I wanted to. I don't really care about their costumes being 100% accurate to the comic though, I just think it would be fun to have those two characters displayed together.

the new body is objectively better, but the darker red and hair tones are nicer on the original.

the marbling in the gold on the tru is terrible though.

i'll be honest, as someone who owns the tru pack i think i'm gonna sell it and replace it with this retro. just hope they do a matching cykes.

The new one is inferior but I just want the head, I'm sure that she'll pegwarm due to the horrible palette but don't care, just wanted the head and not going to pay 50$ for a head on ebay, the TrU is superior in every way and I'm glad that I found her for an acceptable price, reminds me of the BAF Pocky and retro Pocky, the retro can fill the space, but is nowhere near to be a replacement, also the new painless female body is utter shit, fat, flat and overall garbage "realistic" proportions

I also own her and while I prefer the darker red and would like proper gold, I do like the mold on this new one a lot better. Disappointing the logo no longer stretches over her tits though.

I was the guy asking about the Vulcan body the other day. Picked one up and am pretty happy with it, the head is actually well done too, and it doesn’t have the “gummy” feeling a lot of the other MLs I’ve gotten have had.

I'm not saying it isn't objectively better. It absolutely is. It's just that I'm not enough of a Dark Phoenix/X-Men fan to warrant the upgrade. Especially when I like the originals colors more.
