oh you know what, you're right. i was thrown by the matte texture. but you can see a little edge on it.

Same reason they gave Screwloose an eyemask & added a grapple hook for the gun and a BTAS-esque blank eyes head. I'd also mention the Batarang, but that was already on the original toy, and in a really stupid spot on the belt, so makes sense why they made it a separate accessory.

These are cool I always thought Zak and Wingnut were dumb but Zak actually looks pretty cool here and I dunno I still kinda think Wingnut is dumb he's just over designed or something I can't really put my finger on it why I never cared for him but he's gunna be a huge monster which could be kinda cool

The eyemask on Screwloose is a weird choice, even giving him Robin-colored clothes he still looks more like a crook than a superhero's sidekick. The original Archie version had the mask but he also had a more superhero-inspired outfit.

From what I've heard the Playmates Ronin is a "step in the right direction" from them. So it sounds like it's fine, if that's what you want. The NECA is obviously better for various reasons. Detail, paint, comic accurate, accessories. But the Playmates touches on the vintage-appeal. So...go with what you want there.

of course this is the cgi render without the joints visible so we can't know for sure yet. but if he has ankle joints, it won't be too bad. it'd be good to be able to get him flatfooted like the original.

Going through stuff to sell, found my 2003 Turtles. I sometimes I wish I'd bought more of that line's figures (I have all the triceratons, a bunch of the Nexus figures, etc), but boy when it comes down to it...these weren't the best figures to pose. Those awkward leg hinges man... Ah well, they're neat for what they are still. I need to get all my different TMNT shelved properly sometime.

I dunno, I think it looks pretty good overall. It's probably gonna look even better at realistic viewing distances instead of in front of a macro lens. The highlights, shadows, and lining are reasonably clean, and the gradient sprays, which I was most worried about, look nice and smooth. My biggest gripe is really that the "panel lining" on the Utrom is rather messy. I will grant it's probably hard to line on such a rugged surface, but I think it could have been done better nonetheless. The comic Utroms were not quite this craggy, I think they could have gotten away with a smoother sculpt to facilitate better linework.

Actually, I take that back, I'm looking around and in some panels they ARE drawn super craggy. And in others, they're relatively smooth and almost jelly-looking. I guess it can be hard when the source material itself is inconsistent.

Listen to >>10132756. I recommend downloading a browser plugin that lets you freely zoom/scale photos (or just do it on your phone). Scale the pic to how big the figure would be in real life, then reappraise. It looks phenomenal IMO, and is really hard to spot flaws at that size.

I think a lot of times people get too hung up on examining figures with a microscope instead of imagining how they'll actually look IRL.

Got my AutoT stuff the other day, finally got around to messing with my BBTS stuff as well. Slash is great, as everyone's said, no surprise there. Renet's very nice too though. I know blue's the OG colors, but I really do like how the red Renet turned out as well. At least it gives me a reason to display both heads.

It's so cool having the Mirage line expand so quickly like this.

super7 ace duck might have a washed-out color scheme, a tail with a tiny tab to plug it in that barely stays, a finnicky grenade belt, wing pegs that make the neca gargoyles line feel as wiggly as a 7 year old's front tooth by comparison, and overall seems too small to me, but i'll give him this.. no loose hips.

Wow, I'm actually fucking stunned at how good that turned out. The little shading lines are so numerous, and so fine. There is actual thought put into them too, the hatching is placed on undersides of folds and wrinkles, and the lines on his greaves indicate how the fabric is being pinched tight. Nice job Playmates. I'm still buying NECA's instead, but this is a commendable job.

They're technically a Walmart exclusive. You have to go through some dumb extra steps involving the new AutoT website. Some Walmarts in store have pegs for the tags you can buy (they're just packaged slips). But they put the UPC up online too. You can find it on their Facebook page and some online pages. Just take the ones for the Foot and Shredder to Walmart, scan it at the check out, pay, you'll get your code, you enter that into the AutoT site, then you select ship...and you'll get it.

It's pointless steps upon steps added on, but it's the only way currently.

In a way that kind of works for me. Playmates' figures back in the 90s were cool as shit, but I was a comic reader and cartoon watcher, so I quickly realized that their toys were often very inaccurate to both of those mediums. This is just carrying on that tradition sorta.

Okay my super7 krang... definitely has loose leg joints. But only like, 20% worse than typical super7 hips (and then only one of them, the other is typical) and maybe 40% worse than typical super7 knees (and again only one, the other is regular-loose). it's not quite the loosey floppy mess from that one review, but I do see days of polyurethaning ahead of me.
also I forget if this was reported elsewhere, but the joints holding the arms on are SO tight that it feels and looks like i'm going to break the arms when I move them. there is what looks (and feels) like a joint at the upper arm, but it's not a joint.
one of the krang heads is decidedly looking down, which he would rarely do in his walker, but suitable for the body when it comes out.. the other is looking up, so that's good. I definitely would prefer if he were more stable in his seat, not sliding side to side, but I didn't exactly want a brain-wrinkle-shaped indentation in the seat either a la Ace Duck's hat (which still sits too low ff) and some method of keeping the dome closed would also have been nice. but I'm also of the opinion that he should have had a fully intact dome (or at least side-inserts for the holes) and a set of tentacles that are fully pulled inside (which would help stabilize him a bit too? like they're folded in front of him, impatiently)

Yeah, Krang is a total mess of construction. The legs are such a pain in the ass and so poorly thought out. What makes it worse is that toe joint that really folds the whole thing because of weight being too far forward.

The "upper arm" joint you're describing isn't a real joint that I can see. I think it's just the in and out hinge near the wrists. I do agree the arms fit too tightly in the body. They actually cause that ugly seam (why is that even there? The old toy managed to avoid that) to spread and separate. It was probably my most anticipated figure and it's SUCH an annoying mess.

and yeah, was the seam really necessary to add a ball socket in that spot? seems to me they could have molded a socket just fine in one piece.. but my arms aren't embiggening the seam thankfully. YET.
it's the amount of painted parts that could have been separate that is bugging me, especially with some of the silver paint already scratching off.
oh well, that's why I waited for a sale.

I found Neca TMNT2 ultimate Shreadder at Walmart. Katana, sheath, staff, 4 extra hands, ooze canister, ooze test tube & mutated flower. The mask will come off but it leaves 2 obvious pegs exposed(no ears) & getting the mask back on is a bitch. The cape is attached this time, but with how poorly the TMNT 1 cape sat loose, I can accept this. There's a flesh-colroed torso under the purple shirt, barely visible in the shoulder joints. Most joints moved freely out of the box, knees are stiff. One of the calf spike pads is too low, I'll have to heat it & slide it up, as it's also interfering with the ankle. I also wish the spike shad been rubber instead of this hard plastic that feels like it could snap. There's a stretchy black belt on over the painted belt which lets the sheath slide onto his hip.

There's nothing exposed, it's how the mask gimmick works and unless you got your face right up in behind the side of the helmet you wouldn't see them. It's a toy, there's going to be gives and takes with stuff like this. And getting the mask on isn't hard at all. Not sure why you're having trouble with it.

Got my Slash today. Chunky motherfucker, wasn't expecting him to be so big and heavy. The sculpt is beautiful and very heavily textured, and his weapons all look great.

Unfortunately, hips are kinda loose again. It's not real bad, I can pose him fine, but when I set him down his feet splay out slightly, they won't just stay where I put them. This might also be because of how heavy his torso is.

honestly I think we're both at fault. I should have stopped after the first major pull, like I did with casey jones when it was clear his head is not meant to be removed, and I resorted to stretching his bag slightly to get it on.
I don't relish the idea of soaking these heads to change em (and certainly if I soak the neck peg, it's only going to get more flexible and possibly warp under the pressure), I think if I do get a replacement, he's keeping his default head on.
and if I don't.. then I'll order a 1/32" drill bit and see if I can like, break the head off of a nail and jam it into the center of the peg, to strengthen it. maybe even put a fucking nut around the break, since it won't be visible anyway. I've seen people do this with zoids, to repair snapped off limb pegs.

Yeah, he looks fucking great. Very pleased with mine. My one gripe is all the colors got worse. If you look at the original, everything is just so much more neon and exciting. Even little things like the much bluer grey on the shark make a big difference, complementing the neon nicely.

That's not entirely true. Super7 has talked about how they are restricted from reusing designs from the old Playmates line, it's why their party wagon looks nothing like the original. Playmates still has final say over what other companies can release as Turtle toys because of their deal with Nickelodeon.

the playmates original was also massive, I think we didn't notice as much because of the sorta stocky he-man proportions of the old toys. but yeah, I'm surprised they didn't scale him down the same way they scaled a lot of characters up. this sort of limits the size they can make his android body. buuut he would have been a tougher sell as a single figure release if he were smaller.

but, had they made him smaller, with the intention of making a smaller, more reasonable body, I would also have totally understood that and my wallet would have appreciated it. Let's face it, even if the new one was the same size as the old one, it would have been a massive figure for this line and towered over everyone properly.. as it is, scaled up for this new krang, he won't even fit on my shelf standing up. Now, if they want to improve the proportions a little the way they have been on some (yet strangely not all) characters, they might truncate his trunk a little (it was too long. he should be able to comfortably reach down and grab the brain) which would make him a bit shorter, but they also might scale up the legs, making up the difference.. but adding less total size.

just did a quick digibash of how I would tweak the proportions. bigger arms and legs, shorter torso, and a bigger krang chamber (meaning the entire rest of the body is scaled down). this way you should be able to get him down to at least a more reasonable 20 inches or maybe a bit less.

ahh she has an anchor, i get it.

i think they designed the weapons rack first, then got measurements wrong turning it into soft goods. the rack's rope is an okay thickness for an anchor weapon, though not ideal
i'm nitpicking of course, the rest of him is fine. kinda wish the starfish lad had somewhere to tuck into (i tried his belt but that seemed to pull it too far away from his body) or ride on the suicide fish buddy, because I want all -characters- on display, even if they are living weapons.

It's a little goofy but I kinda like it that way. the rope itself is really nice looking, I wasn't expecting it at all since it wasn't shown in the promo renders.

it is.. it's kind of TOO nice. it looks less like a woven-hemp rope used to haul anchors, and more like a decorative rope to keep you out of the VIP section of a really fancy fish restaurant that has a bizarre mascot.
