So with our 19th Groupbuild coming to a close, we now approach the 20th. Since it's a bit of a milestone and I've been running these for a little over 6 years now, I felt that we should do something a little special this time around. Instead of the typical structure of taking ideas from the posters ITT and polling them to decide what theme to do for the next few months, we're going to have something I'm gonna call the "Groupbuild Groupbuild". The rules are as follows:
>Have a build that you never got to finish for a previous groupbuild? Only started building recently and sad you missed out on a theme from 4-5 years ago? Now's an opportunity to get that build done!
>Your build must conform to at least one of the previous 19 Groupbuild themes and the rules of that groupbuild, though you can mix together elements of other past groupbuilds (ie: a Melee Zaku or a mecha musume sniper)
>You must detail what theme(s) your build is going for when you submit your build.
>You can't submit a touched-up version of a previous groupbuild entry, but you can build something that fits alongside your past build (ie: a 2nd squad member for an entry to the GM groupbuild or a mid-season upgrade/powered up version of the same suit) so long as you showcase both the old and new builds in a few photos.

Grandad 3.0 is finished being built. Really impressed with how he looks. I'm gonna panel lone tomorrow and attempt some waterslide decals. I greatly dislike stickers. If I can't paint the details I will.

Ignore what the will surely screech at you in this thread by the autismos. Until you get into painting and decal work, gundam is literally legos. Depending on the model, most HGs take only about an hour or so to build. Maybe not your first time, but if you do like five hg kits, you will start to notice patturns in how they go together.

I have the HG one, honestly its quite a bad kit. Right now I just use it to test paints and markers.
Articulation is bad and the arm joint broke somehow despite lack of play. The mace you get with it is too massive for my liking, but its fun to paint on 1and mess with.

I particularly like it just because of the carbine stock of the rifle.

anyone disappointed with the RG GaoGaiGar?

I saw it on my local toy store yesterday and refrained from buying it because of the Jap reviews. they made the legs and the tank threads too bulky and now has a shitty gimmick just to kneel.

Yes, but it wasnt needed, you really dont need to put down a coat for slides, then another coat. You just finish the build with a coat. But yea it will still work, have a wet q-tip handy if a piece dosnt wanna move, slap the q-tip on it and it will become loose. Just throwing out there how I do slides- cut out n soak for about a minute, fish it out with beauty tweezers, the kind where one side angles to a point, lay the slide where you want and use a dull toothpick to slide off the decal and re-arange it, but a q-tip works also- roll out the water with a dry q-tip, apply a lil mark set, wait a day and topcoat. Sorry about my tangent, just want to help those interested in watersides. Mr mark softer is rarely needed, it mainly slightly melts the decal to bend around shapes or separated pieces, and the need for that hardly comes up. Ok il shut the hell up now, hopefully someone got something from that

I remember looking for a 1/72 tomcat a bit ago and doing some research, came to the conclusion that the GWH one is the best one but expensive, finemolds is close but has some very slight issues with accuracy and then there's academy which is also good and also snapfit if you're into that.

Ironically, enamel thinner is probably the only thing these will stand up to. Enamel thinner generally doesn't attack acrylic coats. Although you might rub them off trying to clean up enamel if you rub hard enough.

Can anyone recommend some good HGUC kits with little to no stickers (paint exists for a reason) and are rather easy to assemble? Nah, the joint was fused on the inside, apparently. No stress marks at all on the outside, but once it broke, it was all stress on the inside.

I already put in a request for a replacement part, and the hand oddly enough, is still usable to some degree. I'm debating drilling it out with my hand drill and maybe inserting a wire in there to see if that will serve as a proper wrist. Otherwise I could be lazy and put a bit of blue tack, maybe.

Either way, thats just my luck. Only happens with the expensive kits, none of the cheaper shit has any problems.

I’d been a little wary on getting the Hyaku and Ground Type due to how many little stickers they both got and I’m afraid I’m going to absolutely destroy both kits. I worry that I’ll rip the stickers due my shaky, sweaty hands, or I’ll try to make everything look perfect causing myself to get overwhelmed/disheartened if I fail. However, the RX-78-2 Revive I certainty plan on getting it after the Revive Guncannon. I almost bought the GM, but ended up not doing it because I’d just fuck it up anyways. I’d kill to build any of The Origin kits, but the sheer amount of stickers/parts compared to the Revive kits really intimidates me. I’d be to afraid to ruin a piece while cutting or fuck up sanding a piece.

Yeah, I did before hand. Like I said, it looked fine on the outside, turns out it was not fine on the inside. Either way the hand still sort of holds just because the blockyness of it all. I might just put some stick tack in the joint and call it a day until a replacement arrives, if Bandai approves it anyway.

None of the transformation bits was what broke. Honestly, the kit feels solid as a rock otherwise. Just instead of pre-posed hands, Bandai decided on a somewhat weirdly jointed fully moveable hands for the combined mode.

Plus how fragile something is really depends on the kit. I definitely wouldn't try transforming the RG Zeta, it's notorious for shattering, for example.

Stop being a pussy. Seriously. Those kits you named are all great and you wont fuck them up. The only stickers you really "need" are for the eyes and head and gun sensors. The origin kits are great and their stickers suck anyway. Plus you dont have to use any of the stickers at all. Eventually youll want to do panel lines and decals and everything else. Its just a matter of pushing yourself to do more and learning as you go.

Stickers are hard to fuck up so don't worry about them, unless you'redoing super tiny kits with tiny stickers on fucked up surfaces and bad tweezers. Most detail work can be done with a lining pen, or if weather permits, coating a kit in topcoat and then using tamiya or something (must topcoat first if using tamiya, the chemicals in it will fuck the plastic up). I prefer using a lining pen because no chemicals involved to fuck up the plastic, and it has a slightly more realistic look to it I think.

As for painting, don't bother right away. The stuff for that is expensive and requires consistent good weather (around 70F, no humidity) to prime and paint or a painting booth in your home. Just learn proper nub cleaning and gate removal, lining, and topcoat your figure when it's done if weather permits, it'll look fine.

Small details using paint or paint markers. Stuff like Molotow Liquid Chrome (you can see this best on my Helios's shoulder gems) or the Sakura gold markers go a long way to doing detail work. Depending on the build, metal verniers, the little eye gems for Zeon suits.

Also a big one is your panel lining method. Getting more colors helps a lot with matching what you're building. Most things I build end up with at least two colors of panel lining (usually black and some variant of gray).

I generally only pull the tripod out if I'm taking a decent number of pictures, stuff like that I just stabilize on my work table. I also originally purchased the tripod for my actual camera, but frankly it's an old Olympus EPL1 and I've not had the best of luck getting plamo pictures out of it.

Yes for the Zoids and larger Hexagear sets.
The smaller Hexagears like the owls aren't molded in the right colors so they do require paint to not look shitty.

You could do funny designs, nothing is wrong with that. But those are not funny, just bad.

G-Gundam is a very obvious self-parody, and a poorly made one at that. Mecha designs in particular are unredeemable trash, there is just no other way to describe them.

Absolutely. The only issue I had with mine is the usual dark green plastic having terrible marks from nippers. I honestly feel like the larger Hexa Gear kits have some of the best engineering Koto has ever done. Fact that the Steelrain can transform with no partsforming is insane.

you can see the gap from where the blue on the head is a separate part from the rear shot here. only parts that will need color correction is the blue on the foot guard, the red on the hat and possibly the non blue colors on the knees (excluding eyes and sensors ofc). rest is visibily separated.

That's not a gap, just black panel liner, on a close up pic you can clearly see that this was painted using a mask and a bit of white paint spilled over blue in a corner

You will have a permanent 0.05mm opening, figure out yourself what that will do.

More likely though your 0.3 needle will have a different geometry that will fuck up your nozzle over time and you will be looking for a replacement nozzle too.
