This looks like MOC but not a professional Lego build. For it to not look like shit they would have had to develop new elements but this is what we got. UCS Eifel Tower. The more I look at it the madder I get. All I wanted was a Creator style Eifel Tower.

There weren’t any Korean main characters. There were Koreans that showed up as background and side characters. Most of them were played by actors that looked Asian, and not actual Korean actors though.

The show is good, but definitely a product of its time. I doubt LEGO would ever touch it. It’s too associated with an actual war, the ramifications of which can still be felt in the geopolitics of today.

Hell, they barely let us have anything associated with pirates and Wild West.

I remember building this the first time in like 2006 using an online pdf that was a tiny awful scan with bad colors that made all the black pieces basically indistinguishable from one another, which was a problem because like half of the torso is black liftarms stuck together with black pins.

I havnt followed ninjago at all so this may be me trying to kick in an open door.

Does this set prove that ninjago actually plays out in a modern or even near future time? There's electricity and skyscrapers, some of which feel more future than past.
Is this set as cyberpunk adjacent as I feel it is?

Ninjago is a kitchen sink of sci-fi and fantasy. I guess you could say it takes place in modern day, but sometimes with futuristic tech such as sentient robots, giant mechs, and fully immersive video games, but also magic exists, elemental powers, and 1000 year old anthropomorphic snakes. What I'm saying is, that it's a mess. Over 11 years of gimmick based sets, makes a messy tech timeline.

I use some old makeup brushes I got from my wife. I just sort of brush everything off then blow at it a bit with my electric duster. just using the electric duster will get like 80% of it, but using the brush first helps get pretty much all of it.

There was a flash game I played as a kid about running a fish pet shop, where you had to breed fish and also sell them. You chose the price to sell the fish for, and the higher the price was set the fewer people would buy it. But there was a bug, the chance of someone buying it would not become zero and had some non-zero lower limit. I used to buy their stuff when they did pop culture / scifi kits. I have the family truckster, mad max interceptor, T1, Police Spinner and a few others. You're only partially paying for Lego with Brickmania, most of it is for the novelty of having a set professionally printed and made, that Lego would never release.

But yeah, it's hard to justify the huge models. But they apparently have the fan base for it. To my furthest knowledge, they're the only company that is able to sell custom sets the way they do and have a sustainable business model. So good for them.

It's attached to a stud on the back of the fig using a neck bracket piece.

Custom figs have really taken off the past couple years though. CB did the shoulder guard in a ABS molded part specifically for the figure, which is pretty cool.

I recently saw a picture on here of some really cool knight minifigs with big elaborate two-handed weapons, one of them had the gold visor from the new cmf, but I didn't save the pic and I can't seem to find it in past threads. I quite like it. It has some nice ideas, good atmosphere and it's not a terrible brick value. I've bought one for under the tree for my kid. Maybe $500 licensed display sets aren't what "hardcore fans" want, but casuals lap it up and the demand for Marvel and Star Wars junk doesn't look like it'll dry up anytime soon. It just dawned on me that bricklink's catalogue and it's thousands of photos, pieces of info, set part outs, etc were all done by volunteers and then that info was all sold as company value to the Lego group, a billion dollar corporation.

Not to mention most of those volunteers were sellers making their own infrastructure and getting no amount of fees back as compensation.

They literally did it for free.

That's the point of the theme, to build a level and then play it with Mario/Luigi/Peach. It's literally the best playtheme lego released in a while. If you don't like the integration of the electronic figures I'd stick with Ninjago or MK.

Back in the day, there was some controversy because Bricklink's original set of catalog images were pulled from LDD renders but the LDD creators didn't give Bricklink permission to use their images and they weren't given any compensation from Bricklink.

NTA but as someone who likes Mario most of these sets are just ugly to me. I'm not even a "waaah I just want regular minifigure sets" kind of guy, I just think that sacrificing visual appeal for the electronic Mario features was a poor choice. Play features are great, especially the ones with fun and interesting mechanisms, but there has to be a good balance. Picrel is the only Mario set I've bought (aside from the mystery characters) because it's the only one that looks like an actual set to me. And even though I like it a lot it's still hindered by the video game level function: The coolest feature of the set by far is being able to open it up and see the inside, but instead of having a cool interior (like maybe some cots for your goomba crew, cannonball storage, etc.), the majority of the space is taken up by the big Bowser hand mechanism. It's a really good example of sacrificing interesting design elements to cram in another play function.

I totally disagree with that anon though about the brick-built figures; I think they're the best part and love the character packs. Ironically I think every figure is perfect aside from the Mario one. If there was a Mario in the style of the brick figures instead of the weird square one we got I'd be a lot more interested.

It might be because you can apply more direct force to a flat plate than a round plate (because round 1x1 plates have a lip whereas flat 1x1 plates have more surface area that makes contact with another surface like your fingertip)

In other words it's a stability issue where Lego thinks you might be able to crack a 1x1 square plate with hole if you put a bar through it and bend it sideways

I have a few of the mosaics now: World Map, Floral Art, and the Mosaic maker. They aren't very fun to build but they are that boring either. I just kind of get into a flow with them. They do get kind of tedious tho after a few baseplates, not something I want to build in one-sitting.

They look really good when hung up on the wall.

I have this set and it is an amazing build but it is not that fun to play with because you constantly have to remove giant sections of the build in order to access the lower interiors. The interiors are also extremely cramped so they are fun to look at and you can place one or two figs inside them but there is not enough space to really do anything besides stand at the counter and buy an ice cream or noodles or something

Well here's thing, that's exactly how it's supposed to be to be accurate to the games.
In the actual games, the airships are never actual ships with interior and stuff, they are levels crammed to the brim with gaming mechanics, same for every other location. So cramming the sets with as much play features as possible is very accurate to the games.

Both of the side builds look better than the main one. However the minifig outshines the set big time. Might get it just for the minifig and try my hand and MOC'ing something else or just use it for parts.

Even in the games though the airships have interesting design elements in the interiors. Even if they didn't have the crew quarters or anything like that, there's plenty of game-inspired stuff they could have put in instead (flame traps, retractable spikes, crates with power ups in them, etc.). Plus, the big hand contraption takes up the ENTIRE interior of the set. So while it's technically true that the inside is crammed with stuff, it's all wasted on a single pretty weak play feature. And that's another thing - all the hand itself does is turn around and has a target on the back that you're supposed to hit with Mario to knock it off. That's okay I guess, but it would have been way better if it could move up and down, and maybe even extend to try to grab stuff. So what could have been a really cool mechanical play feature is instead yet another "hit the thing with the electronic Mario" which is one of the biggest problems I have with these sets

Potter sounds okay.
Newspaper boy is probably going to be one of the top minifigs of the series.
T-Rex Man is costume shit. We already got the the Lizard guy from 5 which is going to be way better than this.
Orc could be top tier if they execute it well.
Carrot guy is just more costume shit.
Zoo keeper sound boring but the Koala piece is probably going to be nice to have.
Space warrior might be decent.
Female Black Falcon is just genderswap of previous minifigs bullshit.
Classic Spaceman is probably going to be weak if they the only idea for an accessory is a baby.

recommend a set for someone that hasn't bought lego in over 15 years, I was at target the other day and just decided on a whim to check out the lego isle and was hit with a wave of nostalgia, but controlled myself and didn't buy anything. I sold pretty much my entire collection save some extra pieces from bricklink orders and childhood lego stuff a few years ago and kind of regret doing it.

Yhe guy they hired to design cmf produced this concept art in 2010. 20 or so of these where produced over the years with few modification. The "french lady with wide skirt.and wig" is in there, so this list is believable that we have a such a figurine with a small dog.

Half of these interest me. Will get space figs, orcs and black for sure.

I used my pocketknife to open every vidiyo box at walmart until I found the ones I wanted. They weren't even glued; they were just held closed with a single strip of tape.

I don't know if this is the thread to ask since there is half a fucking dozen lego threads, but what is with the pricing on kits from brick armory or armorbrick or places like that?
Lego charges .08-.013 cents per piece and has since the 60s.
Brickarmory and armorbrick are charging .30-.45 cents per piece and still make you have to buy the manual third party.
The fucking CH47 on armorbrick is almost 700 dollars and has 1,750 pieces.
I mean I assume people are buying these or the websites would have vanished by now but who is buying these kits for these prices?
I have multiple $500+ Legos but every one of those kits had over 5000 pieces and included a fucking manual.
Seems like Cobi and Lego are the only ones not massively price gouging.
