I heard Nintendo was pretty insistent on not doing Mario minifgs because they want it to be strictly a kids set, and giving it minifigs would just make AFOL scalp the fuck out of them, leaving nothing for the kids.

Well if it says "sealed and new" then it's not opened.

If it says "complete in box" and nothing else then everything will come in the box. Weather the set is broken down or built just depends on the seller or if the buyer asks for it to be broken down.

Touch bricks. Inspiration and *process* are two separate mindsets. Process is really the one to get hooked on because inspiration will just come from all angles once you know how to make basic assemblies. With that basis you'll be able to run much farther with techniques you're explicitly being taught.

I'm a revolving door for MOCs but these two survived the great recycling. The cafe is about to undergo a modular-style expansion to add a back alley scene, and I'm not sure what my plan for the 'mog is quite yet but I'm happy with the terrain vignette so I'll probably either expand or finalize it.

I would be on the lookout for the 2018 trains while they are still available. Both 60198 and 60197 have an older type of bogie with metal axle, that was swapped for 'all-new' plastic on plastic design. The selling point is better performance in curves, however they have more overall friction (that leads to faster wear).
From the current lineup tho, I'd choose the 60336 cargo, much more playability and better variation of functions. The passenger one looks gimmicky and awful, the front looks like thrown together using parts from 3kg randomized bin from facebook mom and not like something a sane person would design - there are curves that go into stepped corners and end with gaps around the canopy.
As for the station I might pick one up later at a clearance or a discount preferably (I like the bus esp.)

They're identical so my judgement is based purely on aesthetic. Yellow looks more unique, but it would look better with the same differentiated trim as the red one. I would also swap the yellow railings for the original black ones.

I'm intrigued by the ball launcher concept and execution. It's going to be either retarded or retarded fun, no middle ground. Hoping it doesn't suggest an overwhelming amount of weird single-use pieces. I don't know but they're all literally terrible. Even the ideas behind most of the sets are not good. I'd accept an opening "dungeon master" book set, but more like the Harry Potter book sets and less whatever garbage is here. A transforming mimick seems like something they would do, but all of those adult oriented display objects are gay as aids. The big set with the town and the dragon is the only set that approaches being okay as a set, but it's generic as fuck and doesn't feel like DnD at all.

6 is the bare minium size for 2 seats so it should be reserved for small cars.
10 studs wide is good for trucks and (unnecessary) large cars

Looking to get some feedback on a MOC Idea:
Everyone wants Lego DnD sets, and Lego's fantasy sets are always big deals like Lion Knight's Castle. So why don't we just make our own?
Pic rel is a concept for a modular, hex-grid style Tabletop Tavern featuring a play-scale modular building, a handful of Minifigs to represent classic tabletop adventure characters and roles, and a micro-scale hex-grid piece representing the set. As the first set in a potential series of tabletop-themed sets, the Tavern gives you everything to build a party of adventurers, and both the play-scale modular building and micro-scale hex tile will connect to other sets in the series, allowing you to build, customize and display a full hex map of your own tabletop world. Each set in the series would be themed after a popular tabletop concept (wizard's towers, ancient dungeons, castles, etc.) and offer lots of theme-specific minifigs and accessories to be remixed into custom characters.
Does this sound like an interesting idea? Suggestions, comments, ideas?

I still believe they can take the battle pack theme and do it with a fantasy/dnd run.
Nothing big, but has 2 "hero" characters with a few bonus accessories of hair pieces, tools, etc, keep the figs yellow (personal opinion to cut down on slapping in different heads for every shade of skin tone) and 2-3 enemies.

Make one designed around 2 goblins attacking a broken cart, throw in a horse if they want to make it a bit more, boom Goblin attack pack.

Another with an evil wizard/balck skeleton and 2 regulart skeletons vs 2 characters in a small graveyard setting (tombstones, stumps, etc...), bam skeleton strike pack.

A third with a couple orc stealing animals (horses, pigs, sheep, etc)
Orc raid pack.

The figures with the fish heads from the atlantis line, attacking a fishing shack/boat. Fishman ambush pack

If they really wanted to branch out they can use the slime head from vidyo to make slime people/swamp monsters disturbing a camp of the adventurers.

Something small, but has enough there that you can warrant buying multiples to get more characters, small builds, and enemies to build up armies if you wanted.

Unless you can sus them out in person, you don't really know. Ideally there will still be partially intact sets so you guestimate how much of it is LEGO vs like, megablocks or lepin or whatever

I don't think this necessarily means anything. They probably won't do another starter pack, or at least not for a while. The collectable figures for the beginning next year have already been officially revealed, and if they do another one it's more likely to come out in fall or winter. It's most likely just more expansion sets. Minifig sets would be nice but I'm not gonna get my hopes up.

Unless this is an example image it's pretty clear it's mostly KO. Look for pieces in non-lego colors, bricks with rounded edges, big injection dimples on the top of studs, unbranded studs, big plates with gaps in the anti-stud arrangement (due to bad tolerances if they had a complete array of anti-studs they'd get stuck together), plates in weird jaggy shapes or in non-lego dimensions, non-lego figs, overly-specialized military or vehicle parts, etc. Unless the KO pieces in view fit a similar theme, it's safe to assume for every piece you spot there's a whole set's-worth in there. Base your value judgement off that. If your pic is an actual listing I'd offer 20 and walk away if they scoff. Nothing appealing at all in there, unless you have nothing or essentially spend nothing. I'd just wait for a better bulk listing to come up in the next few months.

CADfags are the fucking worst. As an iterative tool it's fine but selling plans off a render is highly fucking typical of how people view design these days. That, and their instructions are always garbage because they don't have any sense of sub-assembly or build order. Whenever I see a free plan on rebrickable I want to try, I always loop back with a comment pointing out any confusing instructions, weird build moments, or insecure connections, and ask point-blank if they've even built the thing before. Most of the time the answer is no, with a weird graciousness that someone out there, you know, actually has.

Because they're banking on people who dip in and out of Lego collecting. I don't have this set but I wanted to get it because I didn't have any of those figs but by then it was retired and expensive. Instead I managed to get the Lambda with Luke and Vader and a MSRP Vader's transformation for Palatine. I bricklinked 2 different imperial guards but I don't mind that they have a slight difference (the cape material/color and the printing on the shirt has slightly different cloth folds).

What I don't get is why the fuck do they need to make new prints. There's so many variations to Vader's suit and his face. Same with Boba Fett. I thought he was rare but there's like 15 different printed and colored versions. I get improving a print but most of them don't even look different like R2 and C3PO.

Military stuff tends to translate pretty well into lego, though. There's a reason mechs and greebly spaceships are popular, and those are just stylizations of real military equipment. Scale models are a huge leap in time and skill investment to get a very different result; Lego's toyetic look is a charm into itself.

if you can track them down, the 2001 Dinosaurs line are a good medium of having enough molded parts to convincingly look natural at a glance while still being more firmly 'system' than the big dinosaur figures they go with nowadays

nice ideas and parts but overall just seems poorly executed, the sets seem more expensive than comparable sets of other themes and i feel the same way about it as i do ninjago, nexo and chima, trash themes with interesting parts id only ever get when the sets are reduced

I really enjoy this line, honestly. I'm a complete sucker for source accuracy to old legends and shit like journey to the west (and would love to see more of that kind of stuff from other cultures), so it's delightful to see such a large volume of references. That being said, the price is a real deterrent. Not as bad as licensed shit still, but the elephant is a huge offender at 80 USD. Kind of a fuckton for what you get.

I did. I calculated the value based on what it would cost to get the majority of the inventory I wanted off bricklink. White it's still cheaper to buy just masonry bricks in bulk, there were enough of those, as well as a whole suite of other parts I would have needed to go out of my way to order, that I determined it wasn't that bad. It comes with a ton of white and LBG masonry bricks, a handful of really nice blue printed tiles for carpet or tapestry, windows/doors, a dog, a decent assortment of minifig utensils and accessories, and even a couple splat gears. Depending on your current collection it also has a small variety of normal bricks, snot bricks/brackets, and tiles in normal colors for architecture stuff. The biggest "YMMV" is the figs - if you're a fleshfag there's a lot of decent outfits to be made by combining parts with other characters - if you're a yellowfag most of the torsos and legs are compromised by fleshtones but a few are still viable.

I parted it out as soon as I bought it, but I did make pic related just to get the vibe and a few photos. Just note that I've modified every corner off of the original myself so my own pieces are being added here. There are some decent furniture builds in the kit if you need inspiration but building the whole thing is unnecessary to get those lessons out of it IMO.

Seems unlikely. The new movie is way after WWII so the only way there would be nazis is if they end up being a twist villain somehow (would be cool ngl). The Raiders set is based on the tomb scene with the Ark so probably will just come with Indy and Sallah/Marion. The Last Crusade fighter plane set might at least come with a nazi pilot, but that's assuming it comes with both planes and not just the one.

I wanted to be able to quickly create really simple scenic environments for my lego builds kind of like how the box art compliments sets. I was thinking of getting a bunch of simple mats in different colors to use for different types of terrain and then I would like to have generic landscape objects like trees and rocks to put around the problem is when I look up diorama stuff it's always those really expensive ultradetailed pieces that are really flimsy and meant for display only when I really wanted basic shit that can look more toy-like and I can handle and move around at will(not unlike Lego pieces really).
Any suggestions?

How about simple aquarium decorations? Not the fancy handpainted sculptures but just fake plants and rocks.I reckon they are cheaper, sturdier and less detailed than professional diorama stuff.

Hit up an upholstery, carpet, or fabric shop on the phone and ask if they can cut and bind carpet in custom sizes. If you want a smooth surface ask for "low loop pile" or if you want it scruffy ask for "low cut pile." You might also have decent luck ordering or snagging samples but the size might not be adequate for you. To move dioramas around easily just hot glue the carpet to a heavy cardstock board or fine plywood. Could be really interesting if it's not too expensive.

I separate out all the printed and stickered pieces. Then put the bricks in a fine mesh laundry bag and run them through the washing machine, warm water, on a no spin setting. Air dry afterwards.
