for the hips, yes. floor polish (if you don't have, you can just buy the important ingredient, which is water-based polyurethane varnish. it's not expensive and a little will last forever)
for the inner pelvic piece which wobbles freely, not really. not unless you can figure out how to pump floor polish up under his shell, above the rim of the pelvic piece, and let it drip down into that piece's interior. I feel like if I just had an S-shaped tube of some kind, it might be possible to kinda 'periscope' it in. but you'd be working totally blind.

Vintage-anon here. Went to a local collectibles store and found a bunch of figures. Could only afford to get some guys, but I'll definitely go back soon to get some more. Here's my recent haul. I didn't notice until after I had already bought him, but Raphael's a soft-head. I was already happy to find some figures with their accessories, but that was a fun surprise.
Out of curiosity, does anyone know if the 25th Anniversary figures' weapons are the same as recent rereleases where they used different color plastic? I wonder if there's a way to tell if you've actually got the original weapons with the vintage figures or if you got a later releases'.

The newer re-release weapons are pretty flimsy and almost translucent. I couldn't say for sure if there's a way to tell definitively though.

I grew up with the classics, bought everything of 2003 series when I started my job, then my parents sold it all at a yard sale for probably pennies while I was away, all I have left is part of a spaceship and the wind up Shedder w/out the helmet

Neca breaks easily, often in the package. BST AXN IS overpriced but never had one break on me. Its biggest problem is a shit character assortment. Did anyone ask for the street clothes turtles? They have big gold Krang out but the regular one is months off? No April or Splinter?

Rocksteady & Bebop having human alt parts is interesting, though Rocksteady is off-model "not muh cartoon" to make it work.

And none of those ugly black lines Neca does, that only Neca buttkissers think looks good. It's a 3D model, it doesn't need that shit. I got their Krang android to fit in with Super7, if Loyal Subjects veer gets their Krangs out I'll replace them just for lacking that stupid shit. It's weird though their 2 Krangs will be Neca size for a line that's overall much smaller scale.

Went back to that shop and picked up some more guys. These'll be my last pickups for now. They had more stuff, but I got all that I was interested in. Humorously enough, this Donatello that was next to the Raph I got before was actually a soft-head too! I checked everyone else, but he was the only softy they had. I think they both might've had the same original owner, as they both have the same weird stain spots on their bodies. I gotta say, I really love guys like Mondo and Baxter with all the extra sculpted detail on 'em. They look sick as fuck.

The late 80's and early 90's were a wild time for toys. I wouldn't believe half the shit that came out of that time if I hadn't witnessed it first-hand.

In retrospect the idea of trolls that tried to appeal to the TMNT demographic makes sense from a moneymaking standpoint. Trolls were big, turtles were big, why not find a way to combine their appeal? What could possibly go wrong?

One season and the toys hit the 3/$5 bins at KayBee Toys. It's how my brothers and I got all 5. We still watched the cartoon and enjoyed it but we enjoyed most action cartoons at the time. Like Biker Mice from Mars which Im hoping gets good playable figures and not just retro shit when it gets rebooted. My dream would be EXO Squad to be the next big retro revival. But playmates is ass now and their reissues would have less paint apps then the originals did already. If Jazzwares picks up the license it might fare better. They have those mini articulated Fortnite figures.

Yeah, I'd be very surprised if they made any of the mutant rangers. With the turtles they can make one body and reuse it four times, looks like this time they don't even need unique helmets. With the rangers they'd have to make brand new individual sculpts for pretty much all of them.

Because taking real creative risks means it could lose money, and this is an era of pop culture where EVERYTHING must be as safe and generic as possible to maximize predictable safe profit. TMNT isn't art, and it's barely entertainment. It's now a brand and it's sole purpose is to generate money.

In all fairness to them, it's pretty tough to visualize digitigrade legs doing human things. And they're even harder for the average person to spot anatomical errors in--most people cannot even detect poorly drawn human legs.

Also, I'd agree with you on the "artist doesn't know how digitigrades work," but Tommy's look pretty good from what I can see.

Another haul. Man, I've been having so much damn fun collecting this line. And I've gotten so many figures for cheap too. Most of the figures I've gotten recently I've only paid $3 or $5 for at my local shops. I would've thought people would be trying to scalp these guys just because they're old, but I'm happy that hasn't been the case.
I'm also surprised at how much I like some of the gimmicky figures. I really love the Head-Dropping guys, and the flipping guys are real fun too. Sucks that the Wacky Action features don't work as well as they probably used to, and I can't test out my Talking Mike without his voice strips, but they're nice sculpts regardless.

oh those people are out there. Just go look at some tmnt lots on ebay. You have people with commons, in a lot of 8, with no weapons, missing hands and legs, trying to get $75.

most of the figs are common as dirt. They made a lot of them. They kept pumping out the first wave for most of the run. And even after the show ended, KBToys were still ordering them and they came on a generic card. The only really rare ones are the weird side characters in the last few waves. Like the Cobra guy.

see pick related. This was the card they were using when KB was still ordering wave 1 figs well into the series.

I still remember the wall of TMNT figures at..I think it was Wal-Mart or K-Mart...but it's when I bought the on card Krang's Android Body figure. I had stopped buying TMNT at that point, but I always loved the android body look. So that was the last TMNT figure I bought of the vintage line, when it was still in stores. Still have it too, complete.

I had that talking Mikey as a kid. Even brand new, the talking strips didn't work very well. I remember being really disappointed by that one.

The flipping turtles were awesome though, really great Mirage-esque sculpts. I wanted them so bad as a kid but never found them. The storage shell Turtles became my "main" Turtles instead.

I have a feeling what we have now with FOMO is deliberate. I think the higher price tags are part of it too. 5 years before this started, there was talk of tiered pricing. Where essentially you charged more in richer areas to richer people and had products just for your wealthy customers. I have a feeling Hasbro probably met with a consultent years ago that pushed this and hasbro bought into it. That is why we are seeing these price hikes and then stuff go to sale real quick. $25 marvel legends and then suddenly target has them for $7. To us it looks like bad business. But to Hasbro and target it is deliberate. They made their big money off the people who paid $25. Then they make a little less on the people paying $7.

The FOMO part comes from the fashion industry. It gets you to pay the $25 now. Because you dont want to miss out. Lego was the big case study with this. For a while, new old lego sets would be worth more than gold per weight. Why? Because they would end runs on kids as they got new licences. End the licence, then push it out of the stores on clearance in January. Like the old Avatar the last airbender temple kit is now worth like $350. That was a $30 kit at release.

Exclusives are part of both FOMO and tiered pricing. And stores like it because it gets people in their stores, ideally.

hasbro has bet too much on all of this an almost fucked themselves. Covid fucked them hard. Its really hard to put into words just how much hasbro stock went to overstock stores last year. I went to a lot of Ollies and similiar stores last year and towards christmas some stores had as much if not more toys than walmart or target. Just walls and walls of it at 75% off. I remember one shelf having like 300 talking baby yodas at $8 each. Those are suppose to retail for $28

Sure, all those cosmos flew out of the stores. They got guaranteed sales. But that was one figure in a box of 8. Why did they order so many remold blurs? So many beast wars recolors?

What made Walmart think any of those exclusives would sell well? and why order like 100 of them for every store?

anyone else kinda feel bad having such a big expensive collection and not playing with them often? There's just something about figures in general, they don't wanna stand, their shelf arrangements are always a hair away from total collapse, their joints always feel right on the brink of breakage, and weapons are really hard to move in and out of hands. i just got back into playmates turtles and i'd be perfectly happy with buying repros at retail but the obsession with faithful cardbacks, accessories, and scalping is really hilarious. i've ended up watching more loose originals and softheads than anything else because i'd be totally happy with a loose figure with weapons only.

i've been watching undercover don the most because they seem to have made a lot of them. usually goes for 25-30 but i'm tempted to get him for 40 on card and cracking him open just so i get all the accessories and clean stickers. it's come to this.it was one of the most popular toy lines of all time. they made thousands of them. why are they so expensive?

So there's not actually Tiffany or Aunt Aggie happening. They have digital sculpts that they use for the props (photos etc).

Trevor explained that the majority of the figures were "never going to happen" though, and then they end up happening because the sets keep selling so well. So who knows what the future holds.

Cause they can pose the render for a photo that is then included as a framed photo or something with other characters. It's just something one or two of the artists put together real quick. Now, in the future, they COULD use them for a real figure if necessary.

I think a lot of the time it's because they wouldn't be able to get a clean enough shot without having to doctor the image some anyway. Without some clean rip of the cartoons, it'd be kinda fuzzy/blurry. Plus this way they kind of fit within the "world" of the toys.

There's a photo of Tiffany that came in the Channel 6 pack, that's that Render up there lit to look like a toy. The photo of the handsome news anchor is another one, the upcoming April Ult. has the Aunt Aggie digital sculpt used as a photo for her.

And nooot quite the same, but this painting of a cheese was in an episode for 2 seconds, so they had one of their artists copy that and now it's going in the accessory set that's coming out this year.

Triceraton mouths aren't much like triceratops mouths. They have very human-looking teeth arrangement, and from what I've seen, aren't really drawn with that cheek stretch bit, even when their mouths are wide open.

I wish more companies would realize how crucial this joint is. Without it, wide stances just look bizarre because the feet have to be cocked way out to the side, and are often unstable as a result.

You're not really understanding the issue here. To get Garax in a super wide stance with feet flat on the ground, his feet need to be nearly pointing directly left and right respectively. This means he cannot be posed hunching or crouched at all, he will fall right forward because his feet are pretty much sideways. I need to have his back rigidly straight to keep him upright in such a stance. It really limits what you can do with him.

This is all sort of a moot point anyway though, since toys =/= reality and what works for a real person doesn't necessarily work for a figure (and vice versa). You sometimes need to make unrealistic concessions to make toys move like we do, because it's simply not possible to mimic the interactions of muscles, tendons, soft skin, etc. in a hard plastic toy. And by the way, I CAN turn my feet inward while in a wide stance, it's just that my ankle isn't providing the rotation, my hip/thigh are. Which is ALSO something that Garax lacks, since his thigh swivel is blocked up the sculpt and barely moves.

For example, let's take horse stance. The guy on the left has his feet facing pretty much forward. This allows him to compensate and shift his weight pretty well, you have the entire length of your foot to modulate that. The guy on the right will be far less stable, he can be tipped forward or back easily because he is modulating his balance on a thin strip of foot. He does not need side to side stability, it is a poor choice for this. Garax can only do the pose on the right.

Also, I juuuuust noticed I posted in the wrong thread, I was talking about Garax in the NECA thread (who has the same issue) and mixed up my tabs. Sorry. Anyway, I think you get my point about why calf/ankle swivels are important.

It's a common stance in japanese martial arts, it's not supposed to be natural. It helps build leg muscle strength.
