a mechanical beast is less of an impressive change, there's a lot less of a striking difference between the organic and mechanical. but it's a lot easier to make it look good and to make two really solid forms without any 'don't look at it from this angle' shit

I continue to be insanely irritated by the inclusion of tamashii stand ports on basically every release lately, but simultaneously the way that they're almost never engineered to actually work. Waspinator has one but only for bot mode. Inferno has one that's basically completely useless unless you unpeg his waist. It's so fucking constant and makes me wonder if it's just at troll at this point.

Hes' a fun enough Tiny Soundwave, but at least on my copy there's some weird tolerances. Like nothing's "return this to the factory floppy" or anything, but some joints feel like they move too easily and others are surprisingly tight in comparison?

The shoulders are a bit tight on mine, was difficult to center. The legs were pleasantly smooth, but the head is a bit worryingly tight. There's a tiny stress mark for the tapedeck and skirt joint, on his actual right side rather than either of the moving pieces. But other than that, things are fine for Soundwave, unsure how similar Soundblaster is.

I've always preferred the more normal face on the original Cheetor toy. The animation model and subsequent toys giving him cat features always felt like one step too far. He turns into a cheetah. That's enough.

Every character on the show except Rhinox had some of their Beast Mode facial features in robot mode (and while Megatron had a relatively normal face, he had a row of T-Rex teeth growing out of his clavicle instead). Considering the theme was there right from the start, I'm not sure why you would be bothered by it on only Cheetor and Rattrap.

Getting Trailbreaker out of the box and in hand, he felt super dense.

Didn't expect the Lockdown transformation, what with the legs being made f the whole length of the vehicle. Plus some extra extension.

Trailbreaker's legs are the better half of the transformation, they're a lot cleaner and more well thought out before you have to tackle the panel-y mess of the backpack.
The final leg of it, folding the arms out and snapping everything shut is pretty satisfying.

I only came back to Transformers for the first time since the 90's around Earthrise; I grew up on the tail end of 'Gen 2' and was really only old enough tin time to get into Beast Wars and Beast Machines. Most of the characters released were 'new' to me (I had never even seen the '86 Transformers movie or anything past G1 season 1, so this was my first time seeing characters like Galvatron and Ultra Magnus), so the only ones I could really be disappointed with were the remakes of the Beast Wars characters I had growing up. Airaizor, Terrorsaur and Rhinox were my three biggest let-downs - Airaizor and Terrorsaur had awesome bot modes that looked better than their originals, but the Beast Modes sucked (which is why I won't get the new SS Airazor for RotM). Rhinox was a disappointment in both modes, so he's the only figure I actually regret getting at all. The new Inferno's beast mode is kinda lame, too. BW Grimlock having the wrong color scheme was annoying, but at least I have a new version of my favorite character (my old one's legs turned to dust ages ago).
T-Rex Megatron/T-Wrecks, Blackarachnia, and Tarantuals were home-runs, though, and I love them as much as I loved my originals.

There's some subtle shape changing going on that I do like but some other stuff that just does not feel good.

The main side panels are obviously painted clear plastic and transformation requires not only hinging them but sliding them in their hinges.
And, maybe I did it wrong, but the shoulder gun requires a lot more flex that I would have liked to get it around where it needs to go

Maybe the tolerances on the God Neptune set were worse, but based off of owning those versions of the molds, I'd say absolutely not. There is so much play in the the combined thighs and ankle joints that you have to prop him against the wall.

I have both her and Minerva and I'm happy with the figures for the most part, plastic feels fine to me but her feet are on an awkward hinge that makes her hard to pose and the backpack joint on my Minerva is loose so it doesn't stay in place on her back.

Earthrise was a shitty half measure which will soon be made obsolete by a proper earth mode, but I think Siege was a great toy. I like having a Magnus whose cab/inner bot isn't just a carbon copy of Optimus. My only complaints are the battle damage (which isn't as bad as other Siege figures, but I'd still prefer none at all), and his feet in armored mode forcing an A stance. They have articulation to do splits, but can't rotate in the other direction to stand up straight, which is an odd thing to me.

That set of minibots is already made by ehobby in the early 2000's. The story would be expanded in the comics, that the miscolored minibots were refugees from the gobot universe which had been destroyed. They made themselves as minibots to disguise in the cybertronian population.

The only other cool part of the lore is Bug Bite gets decapitated, but lives, because his brain was in the car hood all along, and the head was fake (because the original toy had no head)

I don't dislike this design. It looks okay if rather uninteresting. It's just a pretty fucking bad rendition of Cheetor that at best resembles his Beast Machines self, which it does poorly anyways. these are just carnivores that are floating around in that weird pocket of the carnivora family but not any particular thing we'd still recognize. lotta really neat concepts god was knocking around before letting them die off because they weren't very good at being animal.

yeah it was an interesting choice. of course the real toy ended up in pretty bright red plastic and you had to do all the panel lining yourself to get this look.

You do know they're going to retool the Studio Series 86 Ironhide into him right? Besides the obvious "that's the easiest retool in the world" factor, Ironhide has nubs on top where they'll attach a lightbar and he comes with the twin pistols Ratchet uses in the scene.

Yeah, I do. Idk, I'll just see this as an alternate universe ratchet. I missed the WFC one, but I did get the nemesis shattered glass version and one of those kid friendly versions from dollar general. something about the guy just appeals to me. One day I'll impulse buy a g1 vintage.

Nah, left is Snarl, a redeco of the Beast Machines mold of the same name. Right is Nightprowler, a tribute to a never released redeco of Beast Wars Cheetor Walmart was intended to get. Yours was redeco of Night Slash Cheetor, also from Beast Machines.

cheetor you're stuck paying a chinaman to make you a sword blade attachment (doesn't fit great) or some kinda axe head for it.
plus there's the inherent problem of 'it's a tail. it turns into a beast mode tail. even if there are little metal locks on the inside that hold the joints fast, it won't be as strong as a solid metal bar, and he's fighting people MADE of solid metal'
