What's the deal with the blacksmith set? Why are people paying like $200+ for it on eBay and why is it sold out everywhere but Amazon, who has it regularly for $150? I'm genuinely confused what the hell is going on with that set in particular.

I only really played Zelda 1, Link to he Past, Wind Waker, Tight Princess, and BotW. Zelda just doesn't do it for me in merch. And kinda bummed all the Mario stuff is so shit, imo. (The NES, the Mario course LCD fig, the ? Block). What kind pisses me off is that most of the brick built enemies and characters are so perfect and the LCD figs look like some Duplo shit.

This. The worst part about buying Lego is that I slot it in with all the other shit I buy and don't need. If I didn't have any other hobbies and only bought Lego I could make one of those disgusting Lego city rooms with money to spare compared to my typical budget.

Think of all the other hobbies/collections people have. Clothes, golfing, hell even just going shooting regularly for practice and buying the occasional gun is way more expensive.

I think its really about the space. Colleecting watches is expensive but you relativly dont need a lot of space fpr a nice collection. With lego or cars even beginner collection feels like bloat. Have 3 ultra large lego sets? You have to have all wall dedicated to it (sorted or displayed), with 3 cars you need ultra lage garage which probably only >2mil dol mansion have. I think a lot of people could afford and want to have some lego collection but the bloat is real.

Bionicle is more than the brand on a box, to do a reboot would require more lore slaves and multimedia. It's not like rebooting Indiana Jones where the source material is external movies, it's an in-house name and pushing it would have to be an internal force, creating and hosting the universe around it. And they are already doing that with ninjago and monkie kid.
At best there will be another anniversary thing like it's happening with space and castle, but even more one-offy

I do appreciate Ninjago for the cool Mecha it did introduce despite going against its original setting as well as the winks and nudges it gives to Exo-Force proving we did exist at some point.

The orange anti-air missile tank was my favorite from this line, though the green Hunter robot was also really cool. I give the tank the win though because I wound up modifying the robot's flamethrower while I was happy with the initial tank design.

Oh and then there was the giant bad guy spider mech, that thing was sick as hell.

I really need to figure out myself. So many older, forgotten sets I want to get a hold of but finding them for a decent price is a pain in the ass.

I feel like a lot of people undersell the fact that most of the late 90's/early 2000's licensed sets actually have some soul to them. Most notably Harry Potter, whose sets were based off the books and thin reference material instead of the films. There's a lot of unique ideas and pieces in these sets that you'd not see today.

Take both variations of the Graveyard Duel for example. The 2005 one is an entire graveyard playset full of fun things that are not featured in the movie, but make for a good toy. The 2019 one however is a boring small piece of land that feels uninspired.

I like both. The original is a great playset with a bunch of bits to fill out an area. The second is more contained but has a great, focused playset feel. More than most Lego sets do nowadays, at least.

I will be perfectly honest with you guys. This set did not age at all. A lot of 90s sets feel dated but this set, due to the fact it is supposed to represent ancient egyptian ruins,aged gracefully. Blockyness of 90s LEGO blends with egyptian aestetics. Anceint egyptian ruins are also mostly anular, with exception for some rounded collumns in Karnak.

Timeless classic.

Early Lego Harry Potter was pretty soulful, even if it was reused parts from Belleville to attract female audiences. It just gives me the vibe of fantastical childlike wonder the early books had. Both are soulful in my opinion, the original comes with a cool graveyard scene, whilst the remake is more film accurate and comes with Wizard KKK, it's rare to see a remake just as good as the original.

I downloaded the manual and looked through it. Some cute builds but so much padding and such a waste that's is just a rubber band mechanism inside tons of padding plates.

Tho some of the pieces are really nice for other MOCs. I also would like to have the little mini 1x1 painting prints but the set is just too overpriced.

I'm not into Harry Potter but hand drawn/painted paper backgrounds will always be soul. It was something I would see a lot from mid to late 80s toys. Just the fact that some artist took the time to draw, ink, and paint something to scale for figs, trying to fit a style... Instead of just some filler brick padding is nice.

I've just got finished watching the show with my daughter and it spurred me into getting the Viking ship to cop the Tahu. It could be a really great adventure theme.
We watched their other show Dinotrux, which will never get picked up because I don't think I've ever seen anyone talk about it, but that would absolutely slap as a mostly 4+ set theme.

Bionicle was big with the same generation that started the whole new gender thing. Naturally many people blended both like they did with any other fandom, and shared it on the forums and tumblr. One case that I can think of is the headcanon that the matoran Tamaru is trans because of some thing with the mask and being from the air tribe but liking water which is a woman thing. Making the jump from a small part of the fanbase to the entirety of bionicle owners is obvious bait but it has a historical origin, which makes me think it's a bionicle enthusiast posting this.

These weren't the first sets I ever got, but they were the first sets I remember getting as a kid. It was Christmas and I was either 4 or 5, which means these sets sat in a store for 7 to 8 years before my grandma bought them for me.

This masterpiece right here. I don't think any set since has sparked my imagination quite like this one did. The instruction book was full of alt builds in cool, atmospheric environments that set my kid mind wandering. The set felt so much larger than it was because of that and I was surprised when I looked it up and learned it was barely over 200 pieces.
This and Iron Giant probably started off my lifelong enjoyment of robots

Car looks great, plane doesn't. Fun fact: contrary to popular believe, the aircraft in the movie was not a Messerschmitt Bf 109 but instead a Swiss Pilatus P2 training aircraft. Considering this it doesn't look too bad, though the fuselage looks too wide. Also, the P2 didn't have guns in the wings, it had a single gun that shot through the propeller, which only had two blades and not four. In the movie we can see two guns mounted in front of the cockpit. The tail fin should also be red.

That set was $60 because most of the bulk is made up of 12x12 brickplates and BURPs so the parts count could go to other shit like the plane and making the boulder actually roll. The old set prioritizes the play factor while the new one prioritizes the display factor. It's a prime example of the difference between 2000s lego and 2020s Lego.

There's nothing wrong with using Lego as a building medium for models. That's basically half of every Legoland.

I think they all look pretty good. The plane and car are the nicest-looking, and the other two have a weirdness about them that's really appealing to me. I don't really understand the complaints about the lost tomb one though. 40 bucks for a 600-peice set with 4 minifigs doesn't seem bad at all to me. It's hard to tell from the blurry image but it seems like the big wall is gonna have a fun play gimmick too, which is something I expect any good Indy set to have. The temple set looks VERY nice visually, and I don't even mind it being a manchild display piece set, but I hope they didn't do away with all the fun play features, especially for that price.

That's actually not that bad when written out. Hopefully you're right and there's some neat features mixed into the set. I had the original Lost Tomb and everything about that set was a blast (except I got a first-gen Clone Wars Anakin head for Indy in my box). I gotta see the full package to make a more accurate decision. Also I agree I really like the plane and car set. Gives you two good characters and some nice looking vehicles for a decent price.

I think the original tomb set being so good is probably the reason for the negative reactions to the new one. The OG is a really nice compact value set, and while the new one does see to be a pretty good bang for your buck, it crosses the "cheap impulse buy" price threshold on top of being so hugely different in design. It almost looks like there's a second brick-built wall behind the main one, which makes me think the play feature will involve the wall sliding apart to recreate the scene from the movie. Hard to tell though

When I was a little boy there was this shop in my home town called 'The Fairy Shop'. It sold stickers and lollies/candies and a bunch of other shit that all had a fairy theme to it. The place was done up inside to look like an enchanted forest, the employee's all wore fairy wings and they had a back room with little tables and chairs that looked like toadstools that they'd have "fairy parties" in every second saturday, or once a month or something like that. Basically for a couple of dollars you could drop your kid off their for an hour or so and they'd play fairy related party games, eat fairy bread and cupcakes decorated with things like butterflies and listen to stories about fairies being told by some woman dressed as a fairy.
I fucking loved that place. I constantly begged my parents to take me there, either for the fairy parties or just to look around the shop. I was normally the only boy at the fairy parties.

As I got older I started to think dolphins were cool and bought a lot of very girly dolphin stuff like statues and stickers and posters. I also had an interest in dolls houses (mostly because I wanted somewhere nice for my Star Wars and Johnny Quest action figures to live), and at some point in my early teens I also started to collect soft toys. At no point during any of this did I ever think "shit, I might be gay" and I definitely never thought "maybe I'm really a girl". Neither did my parents, or anyone else around me. We all just thought I liked some girly things.

Thank fuck I grew up in the 90s, because if I was a kid going through that today, I'd probably end up being held down by teachers and injected with puberty blockers and hormones while some quack doctor told my parents it's what I want and that I need to have my dick cut off.

All it would take is the right cultural environment. A few years ago, I wouldn't have thought that Lego would make transparent political statements, but the current environment is conducive to it, so they did. I doubt it will happen for modern military stuff, of course.

All of the Wild West sets. I'd get two of each, one to stay in the box to one day sell and reimburse me while the others would be put together and played with. I'd also get tons of realistic 19th Century firearms from Brickarms to gun up the Flatfoot Thompson Gang and Chief Big Rattlesnake's warriors. Create a storyline about how the outlaws are running guns to the Sioux. Or have them perpetrate a Navajo Joe-style massacre and pin it on the Cavalry to start a war and cover their crimes. First I would get more space to display my stuff. Then I would get a bunch of classic castle stuff (especially forestmen) to finish off my castle dioramas. I would get a bunch of chrome gold/silver parts too like coins, swords.
I would buy all of Life on Mars and make a Mars diorama. I would buy Adventurers sets I don't have too.
And I would keep everything in glass display cases so I don't have to worry about dust. Maybe they make glass cases with UV protection too.

I know this is a joke question and it's been said hundreds of times before. But I really am sick of Star Wars. And it's not really a licenshit issue either since I feel like Ninjago has worn thin for me as well. Lego seems to recognize fatigue with some themes such as Harry Potter, going as far as to refresh the modular system they were going for and to not regurgitate the same few scenes over and over again. Hell, there's even pic related coming out soon that's a direct nod in both design and set number to the original from 2005. This hasn't been the same for Star Wars, where tons of vehicles, locations and places just haven't been touched in years or even made into a set at all. We haven't seen either of the bounty hunters from AOTC get remakes of their vehicles from 2002. Ninjago has a similar problem with reusing the same ideas and villains over and over. There's so many different snake villains that I can't count them all.

What if they're doing a new Yoda fig with a new head that's similar to the Navi heads? Like it's a regular minifig head with a stud on top, but it has long pointed ears?
