There should only be 12 Lego colors

1 Black
2 White
3 Light Grey
4 Dark Grey
5 Brown
6 Red
7 Orange
8 Yellow
9 Green
10 Blue
11 Purple
12 Pink
(+ trans clear, red, orange, yellow, blue, green, purple, pink)

Anything else is bloat.

Not to mention the more tones and "realistic" color they add, the more jarring and out of place the saturated yellow skin on the minifigs feels. Also a friendly reminder that one of the reasons Lego quality is rapidly decreasing is that the expanded pallet made them switch from precolored ABS to virgin ABS that has color added afterwards(which also contributes to less standardized production meaning you're likely to get inconsistencies and slightly off-color pieces that were supposed to be the same color)

Timecruisers and Lego Movie sets were awesome for a similar reason. Space and castle and any other theme shouldn't be seperate. When I was a kid I put bionicle arms in all my alligators to make them robots.

funfact: My collection almost entirely consists of my old stuff from the 80s and 90s and I only recently started buying new sets. After sorting my parts I only had a literal handfull of 1x1 tiles, trans and opaque. When adding the parts from just half a dozen recent sets to it I more than doubled the amount of 1x1 tiles I had.

It does do wonders to "ground" your vehicles if that makes sense.
I'd just get a straight baseplate or two if you want to start small. But that's the thing, i personally build 6wide more in line with city and old speed champs. I think the older baseplates will be too narrow for you if you mean newer 8 wide speedchampions.

If you're cheap, you could just build a facade of houses only a few studs deep. But as it turns out i'm also a huge dollhousefag.
If you go the dollhouse route, make sure you can easily remove the houses in a modular way from your baseplates, or else moving them around or picking out a house individually will be hell.

Arm swinging gimmick retained, better mask knocking-off gimmick than G1, multi-function toa tools like the Nuva, actual build diversity, shooters that didn't require some unique part for ammo, cool non-clone villain sets, mermaid Gali. Great sets.

The Uniters from 2016 had a good mix of the old and new aesthetics, with some great new classic-looking armor pieces and minimal smooth shells. They weren't perfect but they were definitely headed in the right direction. Too bad TLG shitcanned them in favor of disneyshit

Buy bulk lots on FB marketplace. My average when buying 25-50lb bins is a buck per pound, but I lowball hard and simply move on if they try to negotiate. You'll get lots of variety from the 2000-2015 era and you can make more specific purchases to fill out the corners of your collection, especially if you want vintage parts. Do NOT waste your time on bricklink picking up loose sets unless they satisfy a very specific need because everyone is trying to make back margin in their own purchases. For general brick acquisition and maximum variety, bulk lots are the way to go. Wait for someone obviously selling for space not money, and avoid per-pound fags like the plague.

Shit part is just finding lots like that which work for me. I'd buy the sets and parts outright but the cost on Bricklink and elsewhere is always absurd, as you said.
I'll have to try and keep an eye out though. Anything I ever see in bulk is from the last ~10 years, and I could give less of a shit about City, Friends, and other things of the sort.
Still, good advice. I'll keep vigilant, and patient, and see what comes up.

So far, Lego piece 6380020 (pic related) is only used in the $500 Hogwarts Express Collectors' Edition set. It would be nice to see a Union Pacific Big Boy set using this piece. The Hall Class locomotives the Hogwarts Express is based on is a 4-6-0, where as the Big Boy is a 4-8-8-4. A Lego Big Boy will need 16 instances of piece 6380020 and 11 instances of of piece 6236464 for the loco and tender combined. By comparison, Hogwarts Express Collectors' Edition has only 6 instances of piece 6380020 and 5 instances of piece 6236464 (9 if you count the rolling stock including the passenger car). Since the Union Pacific Big Boy is one of the most iconic trains of all time, The Big Boy would make for a worthy addition to the Lego Icons theme.

this image triggered a flashback to a bulk lot that made me fucking gag. I usually remove stickered elements before cleaning the parts and when I was taking off the stickered tiles on the chest of this bastard it started leaking some kind of nasty shit grease. I practically threw the thing across my workshop and felt my stomach heave. I had to use rubber gloves and a brick separator to finish the job. It didn't smell but goddamn it was some nasty shit.

I wonder if anyone else has any nasty used lego stories. The only other standouts in my experience were a mos eisley moc that was completely full of water in between the bricks, and a ~100k piece lot that had some kind of weird sticky foam experiment explode inside of it.

I wasn't the biggest fan of the Nuva, but they were silver armor on their primary colors. Uniter of Fire is around 90% gold. Single molded weapons in all silver were also lame. At least the Uniters' goofy looking weapons were dual molded.

I once schemed how many colours there should be in "Classic" brick bucket sets, that nowadays seem to be plagued by too many colours and specific pieces. Granted, Lego may do that to give a taste of what they have, but it's too much.
At the end of my calculations, I ended up at 24 colors, at least for those basic sets, cause I still like the sand and dark variations of Blue, Red, and Green, which would add 6 more. 9 If we add sand purple, dark tan and bright green for good measure (the latter has been a staple of baseplates and plants).

I just found the way to group them

Here's the third revision of my Tropical Wiggler. I doubled the mixel joints to keep it moving in only two directions but the drawback has been that the segments are now twice as tall as they are wide. What do you think? I haven't watched any of the cartoons since clone wars but I assume those have been fairly consistent. Is bad batch worth it compared to that benchmark? As with Rebels, BB is mediocre except for the world building done for the empire, and its probably the only good thing about the show. All of the Bad Batch are just bland and uninteresting with little actual character traits to give them even a modicum of likeability or charisma. Animation is top notch though, but its ruined on a pretty mid-tier effort.

I tried to make it feel like an official set by padding part count with randomly placed dots and using a single piece for something that should have been built with bricks.

There are only three barn sets in production. The cheapest one is Duplo, and the most expensive one is minecrap. Being a 4+ set, the "overpriced" Barn & Farm Animals set has some pretty big pieces, and seem to be the best barn set of the three. I think the $70 price tag is due in part to how little demand there is for farming themed Lego sets.

It's an ultrasonic cleaner, not a deep fryer. It uses the power of vibrations and water to scrub dirt off of things. It's basically the same as using a tooth brush to clean every little crevice of the bricks, and it removes every last speck of dirt, fingerprints, dust and smells from the parts without even using soap. And since it's mechanically cleaning the parts, you also get rid of stuff that soap doesn't dissolve well, such as that thick coating of dust that can often accumulate along the recessed edge of Technic pin holes. You'd be amazed at how much muck, dust and dirt falls off even supposedly clean parts.

absolutely trash part, the webbing running from the tip to the clip stops you being able to use the bar sized finger to fit in any bar sized hole parts, a couple of millimetres less plastic and they could have had a good part

I need to go back to this build again sometime. I never took a pic of it but I finished the jet that forms the top half of the torso/the head, but stopped after not really being sure how to handle the arms in a way that would be stable while providing some rotation. This was before I had my hands on some of the newer joint pieces that came out last year so those would probably work well.

While I'm at it I might as well dump the pics of what I got anyways, these are about 2 years old at this point and it's been a while since I posted it.

The general concept for these was a Military/Special Ops themed Ranger team that was a government funded venture (Think Lightspeed Rescue if they didn't have to draw footage from a show about rescue operations). The original breakdown I had for the designs was
>Red - Fighter jet (Forms the upper chest & head
>Yellow - APC/Military Flatbed (Forms the legs), can also carry Red's fighter jet on the back
>Green - Tank (Forms the arm). Was experimenting with a H-tank design but it's definitely uses 2 sets of treads on each side to allow for it to become one of the arms easily
>Blue - Helicopter (Forms the other arm, helicopter blade would form the sword)
>White - Missile launcher (Forms the lower waist & backpack)

Black was the 6th Ranger, and I was toying with either doing a Stealth Bomber that turned into its own separate robot/a set of wings and other bits for the main Megazord or a Submarine that had its own robot mode but could also turn into a large shoulder mounted cannon for the megazord. I never got around to deciding which one though since I never finished the main one.

Oh shit, I remember this! Chunky build but I love the thought you put into it.
The Ninjago combiner mech really enlightened me to what could be done, and I'm hoping to use a healthy mix of Technic, system, and constraction to give the designs what they need. Biggest issue is a theme, but I'm leaning towards bugs at the moment.

Behold, all the axles, pins and small parts of the 8258 in the wash. So many pins in this set ... Huge surface area on these, so they got to run for over an hour at 55 C, with some occasional ruffling of the bags to make sure all the parts got cleaned.

If we take a closer look, we can see just how clean these parts come out. Even the wheels, which gather a lot of grime if played with, are completely clean. There are still some larger loose dust particles and hairs here and there, I didn't rinse quite well enough, but oh well.

The important part, and what I love about this process, is that it completely removes all smells. These parts didn't smell bad, but they smelled like someone else's house. If you stuck your nose into the pile, you could instantly tell that they were pre-owned. Now, they smell like nothing. Absolutely nothing. And that just really makes an old set feel like new to me.

(And yes, those are melted 8479 parts used as backing material in the ultrasonic cleaner.)

Stirring your parts in hot soapy water is fine. It won't be as effective at removing smells and debris, and it won't dislodge the dust in crevices like the ones pictured. But you're probably not as picky as me.

The main reason I use the ultrasonics is because I own them for work anyway, and they clean the parts better with less effort.

I just got gifted the James Bond DB-5. And wow! I can't believe I slept on Speed Champions for so long. I wanted a James Bond minifigure, but that's not what charmed me, it was the car. Pieces and new colors of already existing pieces made me excited. I think I'm hooked on Speed Champions now, although I wish Speed Champions focussed more on classic cars instead of zoomer shit like concept cars. Maybe even branch out to other licensed vehicles like planes, boats or trains, or at the very least non-car road vehicles likes vans or trucks since Speed Champions is a generic title.
But licensed film cars are fine too, I'd like a Speed Champion on the General Lee, or is that series cancelled by the woke mob?

Also the sloped is ok, but i feel using a more rounded piece for the face would have been better. like 21560 the part that was used in the constracted figures as pauldrons and more recently as printed venom faces for a big version or vehicle.

I too would be more interested in the Speed Champions series if they did more classic instantly-recognisable cars. Hell, even a series doing the James Bond cars through the years would pique my interest.
