Transformers Reveal the Shield Perceptor

That other thread is a fucking mess so I'm going to post here.

This Perceptor turns into a half-track artic research vehicle.
And if I'm being real, I miss this window in the franchise when they would just make up shit.
I'm not knocking microscopes, I've got SS86 Percy. But this is a re-invention no one asked for and it's cool and interesting.

As a vehicle he rolls okay, he definitely need the smoothness of a desk to catch those rear castors.
As far as other vehicle bits go Perceptor seems to be covered.
Clear plastic for the windows and headlights, and painted tail lights for extra decadence.
What a time 2011 was, where that decadence stretched to mass as well. this little bricks is just a few grams shy of the bottom end of a modern voyager in weight.
Armada Starscream has less then 10 grams on Percy.

It's hard cause they were doing these reinventions for years, and when the finally go G1 accurate we start asking for reinventions again haha. This dude is cool tho. I don't have a Perceptor yet, I'm waiting for when/if they retool SS86 Percy into IDW Percy and give him a sniper rifle.

Transformation is still about as graceless as I remember.
What I didn't remember was Perceptor's facial expression. I recalled it being stern, but not this dour.

Before you notice the face however you'll probably notice how much more colour Perceptor has.
All the red of the vehicle had been broken up by generous mounts of teal and black.
Not to mention that very special Perceptor ingredient ~vacu-chrome~

The best bit is how the spotlight flips out and folds in to become the shoulder scope, complete with viewfinder he could never possibly see out of.

It's a tough one, I love the G1 cartoon and all of the screen accurate figures, but at the same time it's nice seeing new takes on existing characters. I'm not really sure where the middle ground would be other than segregating them into the main Generations line and SS86.

RTS Percy is pretty standard by today's measure as far as articulation goes.
Ball jointed shoulder, hips, and neck.
Swivels ad the biceps and thighs and wrists.
Well over 90 bends at the elbows and just under 90 bends at the knees.
His ankles are on balls, but they're more for swiveling that any tiltage.
No waist swivel.

I gassed RTS Percival up as heavy in that first post but honest 86 Percy isn't too far behind.
Definitely way up the list on heaviest modern deluxe.

He may have weight but he's skinny in all the ways I dislike of the era. The arms and thighs especially just come off weedy and undersized to the toy.
Beyond that, it's just a transformation I never loved. I swear you hear things make the most sickening crack when you finally get the torso to lock together.

it's probably the 90s anime fan in me but I want there to always be a loli autobot on the team, just to balance things out. There's a Grimlock listing for an upcoming capsule line, probably whatever Walmart does next after Velocitron. The general assumption is that it's G2 since he doesn't really have any other repaint potential.

I think this is why I really like the TM2/Neo/BM lines. Like people shit on shellformers, but the Neo toys do have some fascinating transformations;Archadis, Cohrada, Saberback,Mach Kick, and Big Convoy all stand out, and even though Magmatron is a bit of a brick he's an interesting experiment.
Then in the US the TM2s basically redo similar beast types to '96, but with far more experimental robot modes and transformations. Tigerhawk's hindlegs becoming his torso, for example. They were really trying to avoid doing the same things over and over.

Vangelus and Peaugh built their whole channels early on from nothing to 50k subs within a year just from buying stolen todays and the new era of reviews like PrimeVsPrime, TonTon and more are just doing the same

$400-$600 might seem like a lot, but when you get 50k on a since video, it pays for itself, builds your audience and views on your other content and no one knows that you are just stealing shit

that's my point. hard work that doesn't pay off was just a waste. my grandpa worked his ass off to get himself through college and kept getting degree after degree when it was clear he had the mind for engineering. It meant my dad could live in luxury, but all he wanted was to see his dad, yknow. He told me he regrets all of that and doesn't blame anyone for being sore at him.
"excellent dad" might not look as nice on a .png as "world-famous Olympian fencer" but I think it accomplishes a whole lot more. I had an excellent dad. Sure I didn't end up doing or accomplishing anything, but that's not his fault or mine. and i'll die childless and alone without having wasted -any- effort on pointless accomplishment.

-One of the arms breaking off at the shoulder.
-Dino hips just falling off.
-Warping

Scalpel is a decepticon medic, something that's not that common to see; or at least was because I kind of feel autobots and decepticons are about even by now. It's like saying Barricade is a meme character when he has the appeal of being one of the few competent and interesting movie decepticons.

Originally, I ordered them jsut for Skullcrunch (to replace the horrible Cyberverse version of him I got years ago and instantly regretted) and Weirdwolf (to make up for my Wolfang reissue who suffered from mold degredation), but Highbrow and Hardhead are growing on me. I'm (slowly) warming up to Headmasters in general, but I still refuse to accept the heads as being totally separate characters with different personalities and thesuch. Instead, I'm going with the Japanese 'The heads are the actual 'bots and the bodies are lifeless Transtectors they pilot to fight on even footing with normal-sized Transformers' backstory.
Being reissues of their TR versions, the dated articulation is to be expected, but I'm still finding some of the design choices to be a bit...odd. They added a port to attach a stand to Highbrow...on the TOP of his alt mode (which moves to the outer side of one of his shins in bot mode), making it impossible to actually put him into a flying pose in either form; Skullcrunch and Weirdwold are the only two of the four that have waist rotation; the only bot with wrist rotation at all (Hardhead) is the one who arguably needed it the least, while Weirdwolf (the only sword user) not only lacks wrists but also has some very clunky shoulders that obstruct most of his arm movement. Lastly, there's the soft, rubbery plastic - all four bots use some of it to a certain degree (all of the cockpit lids for them are made of the stuff), but Weirdwolf also use it in a way that's a bit worrisome. His entire wolf mode's naval area is made of it, and his transformation requires it unhinging from his hard plastic chest and sliding up into it to shorten his torso to a relatively more proportional robot one, and any tearing risks splitting the poor guy clean in half.

A long while back, when I posted pics of my Draculus, an anon asked if they'd changed the soft plastic from Mindwipe's old mold; since I didn't own Mindwipe (or any other TR Headmaster), I had no idea what they were talking about - Draculus' softer parts still felt rather sturdy. Now I understand what the concern was over, which leads to another question - if they replaced the softer material with something mildly sturdier for the Draculus remold, why wouldn't they have done the same for the reissues of these guys? Surely these aren't the same toys that have been lying around since 2016, right? They had to have recast them using the old molds, so why not use a less risky plastic?
Well, soft plastic and design issues aside, they're still pretty fun - I'm enjoying Skullcrunch the most of the four, largely due to his gator head having a lot of mobility and allowing for some decent expressiveness. Still, I wouldn't recommend them unless you didn't own the originals and really, REALLY wanted them.

Nice color matches. I got this guy a few weeks ago and just got Tarn today (found him hiding in the wrong section in Target. maybe the chubby dude who hid him will be able to get him online).

Lio has some poseability issues and whatnot and Tarn has some loose shoulder/bicep joints, but you can tell Hasbro has been cutting corners for figures like this. Little to no hollow parts, great molding. Great enough that I can overlook the shortcomings. They really did a great job with this line.

I'd honestly say that Legacy is one of if not the best Generations line we've gotten yet. The Evo Fusion gimmick is kind of half-baked because most of these parts that are supposed to combine seem like such an afterthought and their peg holes on every figure I've bought are suspiciously oversized, but I'll take a half-baked gimmick over some shit like "oh this guy turns into an almost 0 articulation ugly combiner or this guy you get to put these shitty stickers on and he costs you 60 dollars and has hollow limbs."

Fuck Hasbro on most fronts though.

The only problem with Armada Optimus is he never had a good toy to begin with so he deserves an anime accurate toy first before we get into the realm of stylizing designs. Plus there's also the fact that prototype was shown off once and never heard from again until earlier this year with the confirmation that the prototype is not used. A lot of people grew attached to the prototype in those silent years.

Really? That's weird. It's hard to tell from your pic, but it looks like the same port the original release had, which ends up at the base of his back in robot mode, not on his shins. Also, I recall there being another port on or near his front landing gear so you can stick him on a stand in copter mode too.

Either way, nice haul anon. TR/LG made me a total headmaster fag, and even those some of the toys are "dated", I still find the gimmick incredibly fun.

The more I think about it, the more the Hardhead mold is probably one of the best headmasters, if not THE best. The cannon and the little double-jointed platform it mounts on really add a lot in both modes, an makes it one of the only figures where the gun having a seat made sense.

I didn't even watch Armada as a kid and I was shitting on the design for being lamer than the original. I really wasn't a fan of the grill on the chest. I'm usuall all for updates and stylization, but this looks less like a badass robot truck grill and more like Reebok treads. And the chevron texture on the crotch is just weird and distracting, especially with the transformation seam going down the middle.

The original toys were big bricks so the new ones are an improvement one way or another. Serious though Starscream is fine, would be nice to have at least Minicon pegs on the arms but apparently the current designer only sees solid 5mm pegs as the way to go. Starscream is a victim to the QC plague that affected Wave 3 other than Inferno. Seriously there is something wrong with most of Wave 3 of Legacy. As for Hot Shot I guess more could've improved, have the windscreen cover the inner sides of his legs rather than the back and increase the size of the hands. I think Deluxe Class isn't feasible for him any more, he needs to be Voyager to be any good.

My best guess is they want to avoid how the arms rotated to become the windscreen like the original toy so it doesn't have the weird looking bicep swivel the old one does but thanks to Deluxe Class budget their best solution was to relocate them to the legs and mold the windscreen details on the arm (yet didn't paint them for some reason).

DotM Mechtech Human Alliance Scout toys are a goldmine for Targetmasters. They were sort of unwieldly for the most part but they're weapon modes are surprisingly great and not an afterthought. Sad we don't get more of them.

Many Motormasters were yellowed out of the box, octagon pin joints cracked easy like they always fucking do.
Metroplex had infill in the shoulders that got in the way of the ratchet teeth and chewed them up if you rotated the shoulders without first disassembling them to grind down the offending infill, and his ab crunch is too weak to support the weight of his weapon.

Yeah, minicons were fun because of how experimental they were. With the Micromasters once you had one you'd basically had them all. That flew with the originals because they were supposed to be army builders, but that was price-prohibitive with the new ones and they didn't have anything to make up for it.

So, my SS Battletrap just showed up a few minutes ago. I'm on my way to work and haven't had a chance to do anything other than pull him out of his box so far, so no pics yet, but I might do a little review when I get back in eight or so hours. I will say he's got an awesome looking headsculpt, his mace works exactly like Legacy/WnR Bulkhead's, and he has something wonky going on with the crane bits hanging from under his arms. Will have to mess around with him a bit when I get home.
