This was apparently the result of Mattel focus groups with little boys after at least one wave of toys had already been released. They were asked "Why don't you like He-Man?" and answered "Because he doesn't wear clothes."
If they had as much faith in MotU as Hasbro does in Transformers, they could have relaunched with this design shortly after Cartoon Network canceled the cartoon in 2003, rather than waiting until 2021 to market to kids again.

when the news of the upcoming MEF variant first cropped up I assumed we were going to get origins renditions of those 0X repaints. Im a little bummed thats not the case. Red and neon green MEF looks so cool. Same with color inverted Mek and that Sy-Klone repaint.

Some of us didn't have these growing up, only seeing other kids in the neighborhood have them. Now I can buy them as an adult because I can do the fuck I want.

Like the new Netflix Hemans or the Rise TMNT shit. Kids don't want toys anymore, all the toys companies know this and why it's more focused on the adults now. Mellenials will be the last generation to keep toy companies afloat. Zoomers are not going to have a nostalgia hardon for toys since they didn't grow up with it. So when they become working adults with disposable income, they are not going to be dropping $300 of figures a month.

YES, 100% agreed.
I wish they were given the support to make nearly all the characters who were in Classics. Origins taking the gimmicks away from the Snakes just strengthened that feeling: I'd be happier collecting those designs in Mega scale.

You do know Mattel offers more than just MOTU right? They have a full line of Wrestling figures, Barbies, Netflix Heman, and there's also other toy companies. What are you expecting from vintage MOTU anyway?

I OPed the last couple of threads.
Shit, guys, I just wanted to keep discussion of He-Man going.
I only made last thread because the previous thread devolved into this very topic with one guy begging for a new thread and the other saying "just pin it", so I figured what the hell, I'll do it so we can go back to He-Man. And I only made this one because last thread was so active that I figured I'd keep the ball rolling (and we were at page 6 for people that are sticklers, which I don't see how that's a problem).
And now you guys are fighting over it again.

I won't bother making threads if it's gonna actual fuel these arguments between you, but seriously guys: on one hand, you don't need to beg for new threads and be impatient, the thread will still be there since it's a slow board, but on the other side, you're being gatekeepers to a ridiculous degree. Not every thread needs to be made by the same guy making photoshops. Saving relevant images from a previous thread and reposting them as the new OP should not be a problem as they're relevant to discussion.
I'll keep out of thread making in future but seriously guys, stop fucking fighting about it.

Origins seems to downright avoid doing anything from Classics unless it's a vintage toy or very cheap to make.

Also writer seems to have greater love for more "deep" pretention dialogue and narration captions.

Wasn't Hiss suppose to to be sealed off for ages? How is he villain in this flashback story? And in Frog Monger flashback now that I think about it? Also I know that writer couldnt help up but I guess Hiss doesnt need Serpent's Ring at all to turn people into Snake Men. Did no one knew Sneela was coming when minicomics were written.

With previous writer there was often continuity to those stories (like using Faker army from Wave 5 in comic from Wave 6) but now I'm really starting to suspect that Rise of Snake Men wont have any ongoing plot. Which is weird because previous 2 comics really felt as if they were setting up something.

Also, that is weird "origin story" for Man-At-Arms.

Really, even before, I don't need multiple copies of a comic so I'd be recycling 3 of the 4 copies I'd get each wave. Just siphon the comic budget to something more worthwhile.

You know what might have been a good idea, if Origins had made waves 6 figures instead of 4?
"Comics" told BAF style.
The comics are 6 pages anyway. Pack one page of story on a card in each figure of the wave. Actually entice people who actually care about the story to buy each figure to get the whole story.
Now you have a pack-in that provides actual incentive to collect them all, where the minicomics really only require you to get one figure per wave.
And considering that this shit all ends up posted online anyway, the only arguement against of "but if I can't find a figure I don't get to read the whole story" kinda becomes moot because you'll just read it online as long as SOMEONE manages to get a complete wave.

That's why really early minicomics were better. Wave 4 was pretty much perfect it told just enough story to be interesting, but not enough that 6 pages wasn't enough.
This comic might have been good if instead of trying to tell a time travel story about Randor learning lessons, just keep it simple.

Tung Lashor was is still my "favorite".

Skeletor getting power sword out of nowhere which I know will lead to nowhere, heroes entering the fight trough pokeball, Lashor's tongue mutating into giant beast, wrong characters responding to wrong things (like Skeletor saving Hypno from Lashor and then asking Roboto why did HE saved him as the tongue is for some reason on him)

It honestly feels as if writer was stoned while writing this.

Basically there are 2 minicomics that were going to be made in vintage toyline but ended up shelved.Tradebook showed them: one in back and white and the other was only a script. B&W was eventually colored and sold on Comicon or something and DESU I never found it.

King Randor, the Sorceress, and the only vintage black guy
The glow-in-the-dark skeleton, ninja with Skeletor hands and feet, and to a lesser extent Faker, the blue He-Man impersonator

Yep. I saw some Skelegods marked down to $17. Doesn’t appeal to me, though. So far, I’ve been really happy with the occasional markdowns on Revelation/Masterverse figures at Target and Walmart. Got a nice selection of bad guys for under retail, including the new Beast Man, Scareglow, Trap-Jaw, and New Eternia Skeletor. The only ones I’ve paid full price for so far as Fisto and Roboto.

Also if that Tung Lasher comic is any indication, Mattel really needs to stop with these mini comics. Reprint old ones or something but that was just embarassing.

Roboto was hold his gun arm sideways on the cover. This is not how his gun is supposed to fit but makes sense if the artist was a hack who had to trace the toy in front of him and show that's what Roboto was equipped with.

This is definitely the way to go. The torso gimmick is so much better than Terror Claws, and getting two heads and an action feature is worth $5 more compared to Wave 1 or 200X Skeletor.
Of course now there's Snake Armor...

I have a soft spot for Terror Claws because that one and Dragon Blaster were the only ones I had a kid. Its not hard to see why the metal crop top turns people off but nostalgia is a powerful drug.
Battle Armor is way more iconic and my favorite version of Skeletor from Origins.

Looked him up, doesn't ring a bell.

I also had the horse for the bravestarr dude, but no idea where that went. Just found the head.

I also found a box full of vintage transformers while looking through the basement and some assorted MASK stuff.
(My family moved so much when I was a kid - at some point I just left the toys in the moving boxes and added more to the boxes each move as I grew up and my interests shifted)

Yes people still buy these. Its more sought after to have the matching accessories. If they are priced well shouldnt have much of an issue. Especially the later/rarer ones. Bulk or individual will probably sell.
I dont think this would fall under any one demographic.

Its kinda funny that when I was a kid I was looking really hard for the early he-man figures like the crab dude, trapjaw, he-man and skeletor but I just found mountains of the "new" stuff like hordak instead.

Hard to say. Old guys with any interest would long since have collected most of what you have, maybe passing on the likes of Rotar and Blast Attak if poor. But young adults can get into vintage action figures at any time. I know a girl in her mid-20s who jumped into buying Princess of Power a few years ago.

I'm 22 years old and never cared about He-Man as a kid. I thought all the 80s cartoons like it and Thundercats were lame, except for Transformers, but that was only because of the Michael Bay movies. The most I ever knew about it was the HEYEAH meme
I happened to be working at Walmart when Origins first started and saw Skeletor on the shelf. I had no idea they still made He-Man stuff and wanted to get it "as a joke". Three years later I've got three shelves full of the guys and I'm hunting for vintage Snakemen since I can't stand the Origins releases not having their action features.

So for those who don't know, when original MotU designer Mark Taylor left Mattel, he went to Playmates and created characters for the TMNT line.

continuing off the Eternian Thundercats idea, what would be some cats you'd like to see? I think Battle Cat or atleast an anthro version of him should be the leader. The rest of the line up could be made up of a jaguar, a lynx, a puma, a margay, and caracal.

Honestly cant help question this. Yes this leaker has been accurate in the past with the super low res frosta wave. That looked like he stole or was given a thumbnail from somewhere. This new one looks like a mix of figures shrunk down and super low res again ... Why ? To make it look like the previous leak ? Its like a mix of vintage, 200x etc figures and pretty common pics of them. Would someone at mattel who is planning this make a janky shit roadmap that barely makes any fucking sense. Wouldnt like a simple list of proposed figures make sense ?

These guys don't always have stolen official images like Frosta wave.
They leaked the first assortment of snakemen with no accompanying images (I remember because I was a skeptic myself at the time and told everyone saying "Rattlor is a basic with Kobra Khan and King Hiss is deluxe" that they were full of shit. Then SDCC happened)

So I'm inclined to believe the leak in that this is probably the line up, but the infographic summarizing it probably didn't come from Mattel internally. Since they post leaks to instagram, maybe they had no leaked images, just a list, and slapped thus together to grab people's attention

I think that its obvious that Mattel has been cutting corners and having some problems with Motu distribution.

Maybe this isn't a sign that they want to discontinue the entire Origins line but symptoms of the toy industry as a whole. Other companies have mentioned that 2023 is going to be a bumpy year for toys and maybe Mattel is doing what it can but facing problems with higher production costs, supply chain issues and so on.

I loved what Classics did with Icer in a general sense, but I agree with you...without the grin, I'm just not feeling his personality in the figure.

I almost don't want an Origins version because I bet they'll go too far in the "screen accurate" direction and just make him solid blue, no "frosty" highlights, no detailing to the fur (like how the Filmation he-Man from the box set has weird helmet hair). There got to be a happy medium between screen accurate and good looking figure

They used the Hoverbots and the Aquaticans, both from Filmation. Just because the show didn't want to use Strongarm or Icer isn't an implication of what you're suggesting.

It kills me that Tiger Man looks so sad/ confused.

Anyone know how Masterverse's Hordak fits (if at all) the Origins figures? The only other Horde armor I have is Macho Man's and it's small.

I was also wondering if anyone knew how the Mythic Legions heads fit (smaller figures). I've seen customs using the human sized figures and the heads look a bit big. There seems to be a lot more customizers for Legions than MOTU so I was hopeful it'd be able to add some more variety.

I recently drove from half across leafland from the east coast to Toronto stopping at many Wal Marts, gamestops, toys r us along the way.

Most action figure aisles where very picked over and inconsistent about what was stocked. Some had piles of retro tmnt and other zero. Some had piles of Masterverse Teela and Merman on clearance. One Lego aisle would be almost completely empty and the next overflowing. The stuff that was peg warming at home was peg warming everywhere else to.

It's been months since Christmas so this can't just be that. It does seem like industry wide problems.

We've lost at least a couple of very distinctive Anons in the past year or so. Pencil Artist was one of them.
