Here's my guess of how the remaining vintage figures will be sold.
This year and the last only had 4 deluxe figures each, so 6 in one year is pushing it.
I think that, as He-Man/Skeletor variants, the Laser figures will absolutely take 2 slots.
Vintage Hurricane Hordak also came on a large, deluxe card. I think his case mate will be Extendar, who will have lost his gimmick and the extra space on the card will be for all his extensions.
Of course vintage Twistoid and Rotar also came on deluxe cards, but I don't know if Mattel is audacious enough to send such unpopular characters to retailers.

Basic waves seem to have a maximum of 2 vintage figures, so the 8 I marked $18 make up next year's allotment. I expect to see Strobo, Plasmar and 6 other cheap filler characters.

I don't see where that's a problem. Slush Head turned out amazing. You're not locked into buying one and only one line. Unless you're planning to buy only Optikk and nothing else and want to stick him with your evil warriors for some reason, why does he need to be Origins?

My local Target put the Rulers of the Sun 3-pack on sale for $26 in store. I was being patient and hoping that would happen, so glad it paid off! Nice thing was there were like 15 of them sitting there so I was able to pick out the best looking ones.

I see both sides of it and from a business perspective it makes sense because once you cave and get one MV, you are going to start collecting the line. That's what happened with me and Beastman + Two Bad.
I make sense of it in my mind that those two are supposed to be big huge monsters so it makes sense that they tower over the others.
But nobody except Biden voters want Frosta and Catra to be taller than He-Man.

Even at the same scale NA would stick out anyway because they have a Playmates TMNT aesthetic rather than a vintage MotU aesthetic. The mutants are also non-Eternian aliens so if you can justify Beast Man and Two-Bad you can justify the mutants being bigger.

And how did Frosta and Catra enter the convo? We're talking about NA.

PoP entered the convo because they are a line connected to Motu that is showing up in Masterverse rather than Origins, despite being a strong candidate to appear there.
Any annoyance about NA being in Masterverse also applies to PoP fans.

Yeah yeah, they can do POP, they can do NA for Origins...we all saw Classics, we know that there is tons of characters to pick from. I'm just not getting hyped because there is always a chance that either they'll never pick those sublines or that they'll close without finishing them like Classics did with NA.

My thinking was that Two Bad literally has two heads, and we've gotten to the point where being a He-Man/Skeletor variant with an action feature OR no feature but a second head (Snake Face doesn't even have a second pair of arms like his King) makes a deluxe.
Sure, Rio Blast COULD be, but there needs to be an even number, and I think the case for Two Bad is similar to fucking Snake Face.
And what do you think about the Energy Zoids issue?

I think Two-Bad is more similar to Mantenna honestly. 1 extra head on his shoulders won't take anymore room than Mantenna two extra legs. The heads don't need to be separate from the figure like a deluxe that only has 1 head as a default getting a second head.
Plus vintage Two-Bad has like no accessories and no real action feature. I can't see how he'd be justified as a deluxe unless they pack in 4 heads so each side gets an alternate head

$24.99 at Target. Wasn't going to get any of them otherwise but I'm not disappointed, that's a good deal for three guys. Space Sumo is the star imo but he was already the one I'd been most tempted by. But I'm also just a sucker for ninjas lol. I wish pigheaded was just a smidge less cartoon, like the masterverse one.

Then 30th. Draego-Man is cool looking, and Photog I at least appreciate that he represents a neat piece of vintage history even though I'm not a huge fan.

The Origins mold definitely would have benefited from ankle joints so you could flex the paws. Still a fun toy though, and the lack of articulated paws gives the toy an oldschool charm of its own.

I think at least half the reason I like the thing so much is that deep purple flocking. Really adds a regal, premium component to the look and feel of the toy. I've go no interest in the bare plastic version or any of the Battlecat releases.

Granamyr I'd be sold on in his minicomic look. I bet they could have fit the snakes in his head with a swivel. Origins heads lose some volume because they have a socket to go on a ball sticking out of the torso, but Face has a unique torso so they could have given him a different head joint at no extra cost.
You just wouldn't be able to put other characters' heads on such a torso. Which is apparently the be-all and end-all of Origins (now watch the line die without making Modulok and Multi-Bot).

Snake Face is kind of a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation.
Like, conceivably if they went a Roboto route with a non removable head, I bet they could have managed a gimmick and just have him be able to look left and right. His head might not be as big as Mantenna's but it's not THAT small.
But the trade off then would be no option of having the extra, non-working head, which I actually do think is a good inclusion.
The ideal would be non-working normal face head and alternate working "eyes pop out" head, but that might have been prohibited by engineering. So what do you do? There's no "good" option.

I just find Masque too drab looking. Look at him next to Shokoti. She pops, he don't. Even someone like Hordak who isn't the most colorful still has the bright red emblems. If you gave him a whole new color scheme, I'd probably be into him.

Another thing is that Snake Face used to have snakes coming out of his shoulders. With extra head they jut come out from back of his head with the same effect but there no way to keep them with swivel. (unless they would be plug-ins)

my guess is they let the gimmick win. LL Skeletor is almost 90 percent new tooling anyways. at that point you might aswell go all in on the gimmick regardless. Heman by comparison is just a nee pair of boots, a new harness, new hands, and a new head.

This is what I'm kinda picturing:
The basic figure will have standard modularity, and they'll include extension pieces for the boot cut, waist and neck.
The arms, though, since they need to extend from the cuff of the glove and not the wrist, they'll actually include two extra permanently extended arms you can swap on (like how King Hiss has extra arms. Sorta like Spikor too, for how they did a full alternate trident instead of just an extension)

Extendar will be a lot more forgivable than Mekaneck and Rattlor.
With Mekaneck, it's nice to be able to adjust how long you want the neck. And with Rattlor, the fun is using him the same way you do Ram Man.
But with Extendar, I usually extend him and leave him that way permanently, so there's not gonna be as much impact on how I like to play with him

they also both have the advantage of being heman and skeletor variants. neither of which having been gimped in the past. if anything they prioritize new tooling for heman and skeletor over anyone else. speaking of which that kind of gives me hope that rio wont be gimped. you need his parts for plasmar anyways and on top of that so much of him will be new tooling regardless.

I'd only consider it forgivable in the sense that I'm really not sure how they could make him actually extend without sacrificing a lot of the articulation. Mekaneck and Rattlor I'm sure could've had extending necks without their respective mechanisms, ie. you'd extend the necks manually by just pulling them out of the torso.

Ram Man didn't have much articulation either. Basically just his knees and arms.
So here's how you do Extendar to make him work:
Sacrifice ankle articulation and boot cut. Leg extension slider stored in boot so knee articulation not affected. Hip articulation also not affected. Torso made exactly like vintage torso internally. Sacrifice waist modularity, but head modularity should still be possible. Shoulders unaffected. To maintain elbow articulation, store arm sliders in hand. This sacrifices wrist, but wrist was sacrificed for Fisto's big hand so there's precedent. If possible maybe at least maintain a rotation at the extension points, but if not, he's still got respectable articulation. Certainly more than Ram Man

Apparently Mattel's argument is simply that Ram-Man sold poorly, and they can't justify spending that much money on unique tooling like that.

It's neat, for sure, (and can still be found pretty cheaply on ebay for those who want it), but it's not my favorite.
The RoE headsculpt, while nicely done, strikes me as too flat and lacking personality. And while it mostly seems to be going for a more realistic look, the nasal cavity is weirdly shaped for the task.
Also, because the colors are different enough to be noticeable, you can't just swap proper Skeletor arms or monster feet onto him from another figure.
I much prefer the BA Skelly with the "grinning" headsculpt. Easier for me to imagine him scheming and cackling.

Funko gutting the Mondo division like a fish means it's unlikely the Trap Jaw they just took preorders on will ever see the light of day and I bet Battle Cat also gets canned. I have to laugh because their 1:6 figures were not good. The QC was crud, the paints rubbed & damaged too easy, articulation was worse than some $20 retail toy. The redesigned looks & parts were some Hollywood-tier pointless bullshit.

Who wants to be they start flooding eBay at discount prices because no one can ever finish a "complete set" now? Collectors will get enraged & let go because their full roster won't see the light of day at $300 a pop. I've seen it happen with some Origins collectors over Mattel Creations stupidity, so yeah.

What I want personally is gimmick maintained in some form as priority 1, and then add as much articulation as you can without inhibiting the gimmick.
To use Rattlor and Tung Lashor as examples:
Keep the spring neck. If waist articulation has to go and/or if the neck needs to be a quarter inch or half inch shorter, so be it, as long as he works. Then add in the extra arm and leg articulation, keep the swappable hands and feet, etc, since they don't affect gimmick.
Or with Tung Lashor, remove head articulation and swap ability for the head, but you should still be able to pop off his waist and again arms and legs not affected.
Doing that would not be a 1:1 vintage toy because you're still getting more articulation than the vintage versions had so you can't say "nothing new to offer".

I got in an argument with my girlfriend this morning over fucking Frog Monger. I bought 3; one to display on card, one to take out, and one to re-sell. I was talking to her on messenger at the time of ordering them and she asked if I needed any help. I said if she didn't mind getting 3 more on her card to our other address I'd pay her back immediately (I was planning on reselling these to people who missed the sale) She said sure and then immediately after securing them she asked if I'd sell them for her. I thought she was joking at the time because it didn't even cross my mind that she was being serious.

Today her order came (mine still hasn't) and she asked me if I'd list them for her. I was like "what the fuck?" because she offered to help me and I thought she was doing me a favor, but instead she turned around and wanted me to sell them for her. I asked if we were splitting it or she was going to pay me some kind of finders fee (jewish thing to say, I know -- but I was fucking annoyed) I tried explaining to her that I've been using eBay for over 20 years and have 100% positive feedback, that I take time to list, pack, and deliver the things I sell to the post office, and I pay for all my packaging stuff... Not to mention eBay takes a cut. She got pissed off, basically called me a jew and said that she "was raised differently" from me and we haven't been talking all day.

Regardless of how you feel about people that resell these things, who was in the wrong here? I think I had every right to be mad/annoyed that she basically offered to help but instead ended up getting them to re-sell herself, but asking me to do all the legwork for her. Is it not unrealistic to be fucking annoyed in this situation?

I'm garbage for knowing about something that's likely to have a limited window of release, taking the time out of my day to purchase said thing (I set an alarm in this case, because I don't typically wake up that early) and then put in the money up front to secure these items? For what it's worth, anything I resell is typically sold below every other seller's price. I look at what's already available and set my prices lower. I used to hate scalpers too when it came to brick & mortar type scenarios where stores only got a limited quantity and some douchebag came in and snatched them all up to resell.

First and foremost, I'm a collector. I buy these things because I enjoy them, but because price and availability are often an issue, I grab extras when I can because I know they will hold their value and re-sell for a good price. It's how I support my collection habit. It's not something I am making a business out of, just something I do occasionally to offset the cost of my habit.

Why not blame Mattel for their poor distribution? If Mattel supported their Origins line better, there'd be no profit in reselling. Being mad at me for reselling is like being mad at a restaurant patron that doesn't tip you as much as you wanted when the reality is your boss should be paying you a better wage. Stop raging out at the average consumer that's just trying to support his hobby and maybe put accountability on the big company that has poor distribution.

Wave 4 for me, ninjor left quite a big impression, got tri klops and hordak. Even Stratos was cool for me at that time. Wave 3 had orko, Wave 2 was Shera and zodiac. The rest have been a blur really, won't recall thos new glut of figures the same way as those early days. Roton is probably the best vehicle with land shark coming in a tight second.

Also my toad is delayed till tomorrow. But I got ne beast man, looks rad in the box lol.

what is the most attractive heman figure to you?

As for the hate, I kind of understand it. The joy of that "classic" heroes and villains, barbarians and monsters.
It's toyish yet strange, slightly frightening yet but colourful, fun and sometimes even schizophrenic/psychedelic atmosphere is what makes it so great.

The modern cartoon pushed away for a more clean and welcoming atmosphere instead of the slimy ancient damp caverns shaped like skulls inhabited by some realistic rippling muscley freaks obsessed with their lifestyle dedicated to their chosen gimmicks.

For me an ideal show would retain the oldfashioned proper and gentleman heroes as heman that could be like your wise grandfather or loving parents, pitted against eccentric weirdo villains like an old fairytale.
But taking this material and playing it completely straight, despite all the ridiculous shenanigans the characters and their gimmicks make any fighting feel weighty and grounded outside sorcery instead of anime over the top influences.

But honestly, it's all about the toys for me most of all. The intrigue is all in the toys and boxart. The filmation just got the wonderfully corny and earnest vibe right. And both skeletor and hemans voices were 10/10 cast.

Just take a look at this boxart. I love how close the artist kept everyting to the toys, yet how incredibly tense and moody it feels despite its whimsical colours and whacky childish fun the designs get.

For me, having that in physical form, is the magic of Motu.
Confusing, a bit offputting, imaginative and mysterious, as hardcore yet maybe a bit silly. Frightening yet I think they're cute.

Sorry for the wordsoup. Putting my feelings into words why I love these SO fucking much is a challenge.

I know a lot of gay people were already really into He-Man as a camp icon, so it was probably just a hop, skip, and jump over for many of them when She-Ra started.

As for Origins, Mantenna is probably my favorite, he's so lovable yet eerie! I understand the old one was able to have his eyestalks permanently raised though, and I wish this one could too. I'd like to display him like that.

I want to get Leech next, I really dig both of his heads and his suction cup limbs.

Hmm, tricky question! I would actually say Clawful! He looks like such a charming himbo. I can see him sheepishly coming to ask me to help him with stuff because it's hard to do with his claws. His name is also delightful to say out loud.

About the art, 100% agreed. The toy industry in the 80s and 90s was hiring very talented oil painters who took these childish, toyetic designs and took them VERY seriously. It lends the images a surreal quality that I love to death.
