Same, actually. First wave was a dud, the Man at Arms wave was good. Rev Mer-Man sucked. Stinkor and Fisto were good. NE He-Man was good, Skeletor was...fine. Man-E ruled so hard I jumped right on NA He-Man only to be let down again.

I guess Sun-Man too and She-Ra is arguable.

If you count "default" as "closest to vintage" then 35th anniverary is the real one and retail version is a variant.

If you count "most in line with other figures" then we have to wait for them to actually release more POP toys. Most likely they would come with plastic hair making Wave 3 She-Ra main one. Or maybe would start making Filmation designs again instead, thus making new cartoon She-Ra the main one.

Pretty much exactly, I'd bet.
I can't imagine that the actual production cost of 1 Masterverse figure is much more than 1 Origins figure. Plus Origins is also blowing a bunch of its budget on vehicles and playsets.
So, for arguments sake, let's say they get budget for first quarter. Half goes to Origins, half goes to masterverse.
Masterverse only has to split budget among 5 or 6 figures and gets to charge more to make the budget back, so they can be more liberal about more tooling.

Origins takes that same budget, they are also putting our 5 or 6 figures this quarter, but also a vehicle and setting some aside to fund a playset. And they don't get to charge as much on the individual figures and know their vehicles tend to move slowly. So they have to put more repaints and reeuse to compensate.

Want more unique tooled figures in Origins like in Masterverse? Either ask Mattel to charge you more or tell them we don't want the vehicles and playsets, put thst shit towards figures

I don't think you can actually make Powers of Grayskull a theme unless you chock it full of Classics lore bullshit.
Ignoring vehicles and beasts, there's really only He-Ro, Eldor and Sharella. But PoG never had any dedicated unique villains that we know of, and no additional heroes, unless you start stretching thr definition of PoG so you could maybe file the 3 movie guys and the remainder of 88 guys as being "PoG".

This is fucking awful on multiple levels. Mostly I loathe the way Classics made the Age of Dinosaurs exactly like the present except He-Ro is there and He-Man has longer hair/is married to a Sorceress with a different name.

Or spend a lot of time on the Chinese webshops where they list a lot of stuff as "unknown" and maybe the line it's connected to. Picked up quite a few testshots that way on taobao. Some sites will need a Chinese middleman to get to order something. If you have deep pockets it's easy enough

200X was the only one to not go with this plot point but it wasn't openly stated that she was from Earth in that canon, yet never really denied either. I don't think Netflix She-Ra addressed it at all due to legal hangups over any MOTU content. Earlier stuff from before that episode didn't but Mattel doesn't count any of that as canon anymore. Woke ideas have been in the franchise since almost the beginning.

Recall how Classics pulled out tons of most ridiculously obscure characters like Vykron, Sky High, Slamurai, Wun-Dar, Fearless Photog, Molarr, Goat Man, Unnamed One... Frog Monger in very much main in similar vein - not just some minor character from comic or cartoon but most unecpected character from the depths of lore.

Can you think of other characters like that who could make toys? Someone like Scrollor or Songster? My pitch would be characters from unpublished tabletop game.

Dozens of concept art characters like that get dredged up routinely in these threads
Tank Top is one of my favs. Skiing yeti and rocket broom witch get brought up almost as often as Frog Monger used to before his announcement. The Horde Brain and Horde Glob are both neat. There was a Marl Taylor Elder Thing looking monster posted a couple times.
Also, the Italian comics had an electric minotaur named Minox. That's a cool idea. I just wish he looked more high tech and colorful, rather than bog standard looking minotaur

Once they finish the unreleased Snake Men I'd be pretty happy with them taking a hibernation and getting back into finishing the Horde and Evil Warriors, even some cool original characters, filmation/NA or crazy variants are more preferable to more Snake Men. They're just a very boring faction overall.

He seems OP though. In the comic he's granted the power to 'duplicate himself across any distance', then transports himself to Eternia, beats up some Snake men, he restores the power of Eternia's sun which had been stolen by King Hiss and uses "his teleportation powers" to somehow telekinetically destroy Hiss' machine.

Digitino (I hate that name) also has cool powers per his comic. He's like a technopath.

It's not. All rights reserved by Filmation in the original contracts would just require a flat license fee to the current owner of its IP library (Comcast), which Mattel would have already done before offering Kol Darr.

So what do you think will happen once Origins runs out of vintages. I mean, 80% it will die, obviously but how fast? Will they just close the store or try to push it a bit?

Will they close Deluxe part? Put there odder POP/NA/200X figs? Repaints of previous Deluxes? Regular figures with more accessories?

When people cite that, it's usually more regarding the cartoons. We won't see She-Ra show up in Revelations because muh rights or whatnot. I'm not well versed, but I think whoever holds the She-Ra cartoons rights hold the sole rights to She-Ra and her friends appearing in film and television.
Mattel can have them show up in any toylines any time they want, but not in any of their shows. That's my understanding of the situation.
(Makes me wonder where cgi would have gone with that Despara. Telling the Despara story without She-Ra would've been interesting just because we wouldn't be able to guess where it would go)

Well, look at Classics:
It did the last vintage He-Man and Skeletor variants, Multi-Bot, Dragstor, Blast Attak, Sssqueeze, Saurod and Energy Zoids in 2015, with Dragstor not releasing until November 2015. In 2016, there were characters who got their first action figure, then they shuttered the whole IP in December 2016, saying "If any company cares enough to pay us royalties, they can do it instead."
So I wouldn't be surprised to get another year of figures who just need new head molds and such when there are no more vintage figures to remake.
Do bear in mind that this is a niche IP that hasn't attracted kids, so Wal-Mart/Target/Amazon's support could collapse at any time, leaving all future releases to Mattel Creations.

This is what I dread the most. He's on the top of my want list but after what Mattel did with the Snake Men I wish I could say I am cautiously optimistic but it's not really even that.

Look at it like this: worst case scenario, it'll just be his leg guns he loses.
Back pack is an easy to implement attachment anyway, so it's safe.
Snake Face had opening compartments in his torso, no reason Rio won't have. Now, SF DIDNT have those chest snakes, you might have reason to worry, but he did. And the wrist guns kind of doesn't matter if they're detachable or permanent because either way you'll probably still be able to swivel them.

I'd be more concerned over Extendar, Blast-Attak, Dragstor than over Rio Blast

This.
We've seen Mattel release toys. We saw Shadow Weaver, Scorpia and the exact Filmation likenesses of characters like Catra in that 2010s DC Comic.

The one twist with toys is that Mattel probably has to pay Dreamworks to use the character likenesses Filmation created without getting sued. Either that or Scott was lying to the fandom in the first few years of Classics when he said "We don't have those rights." But it's probably a pittance: Super7 would have been paying them and also William Stout for a few figures each.

Fair analysis. Leg guns could just be plugs like in Classics. On that note I'm almost sure Extendar will have tons of extentions, Dragstor wont have drag and I'm even mildly worried if his wheel will spin and I have no idea about BA but betting on "split manually"
