Transformers Generations Thrilling 30s Rattrap

Kind of wild we got this guy. Him, Waspinator, and Rhinox are kind B list picks. But that was sort of the whole vibe of T30.

Rattrap assumes the form a little beady-eyed approximately life size rat.
Colours are pretty minimal. Mostly grey with a brown bum and wee flesh tone feeties.

Action features include a moving mouth, a bendy tail and the ability to rear up on his hind legs and emote using his wrist swivels a bit. Kinda like he would in the show. There's even an inner sleeve that appears to keep the robot head covered when you have the rat head bent forward for that.
Unfortunately all that really does is expose all the robot stuff since Rattrap is lacking a rat tummy.

The leg transformation is something special. We don't get stuff like that very often.

If I could put one complaint against robot mode it would be that the rat ears are too in the way. Being able to fold flat against the shoulders or something would improve this toy 100%.

Kibble is managed decently well. A bit cluttered at the butt area.
For reasons I'll never be able to know Rattrap's hip joints are in the same bright fleshy plastic as his rat feet. And that draws your eye to them right away. Not a good look.
Back half of his head is clear for lightpiping, but the plastic is a bit too milky to catch light well and his eyes are painted anyway.

yeah those rat ears are quite in the way, and it's not as if rat ears are typically all mickey-moused like that, certainly not rattrap in the show. they are normally kept swept back. though.. then they would be blocking his face a bit.
yeah for some reason t30 loved clear lightpiping, it's a shame nobody has taught them about TRANSPARENT PAINT so they could do the eyes up specially.

If you only want a representation of the combiner, get the under sized KO, it you want good mainline constructicons you'd have to track the takara version and 3dprint all the upgrade parts (mainly mixmaster cab) or pray someone sell his upgrades.

the good 3p versions are either huge or tiny, the 3p chug scale options are oversatrated with greebles and their altmodes look like kiddy tonka toys.

For accessories Rattrap is packing this ghost of a gun that splits into two smaller guns for some reason, same as T30 Skids now that I think about it.
And inside his forearm he has one of his signature det-packs, nice of HasTak to sneak this one in.

Articulation is a bit iffy.
Up top I can tell you no wrists and no ankles. And he has the seeker problem of a coned nose removing any chance of waist articulation.

Beyond that he's got Ball jointed shoulders and hips, both with a full range of motion.
Swivels at his neck, biceps and thighs.
90 degrees on bend at the knees... but the elbows...
What you see in the picture is there maximum bend for whatever reason.

The big thing is that the Takara set over the Hasbro version does a lot of engineering tweaks to make the entire bunch better figures. The extra joints and weapons go to making the six constructicons more fun to play with-- if you're a "combine and forget" sort of person, you're paying for improvements you won't even get the full mileage out of.

Sometimes it pays off to go to the real ghetto places to look for toy stuff. They don't know what they have and are happy to price things real cheap just to get rid of them and make a sale. Case in point these guys I just got at an indoor flea market. Ironhide was $5 and Rattrap $3. Granted they are missing a good bit of stuff. Neither have any weapons, Ironhide's missing his altmodes back halves, and Rattrap's been gutted so he doesn't have his robot mode bits and head. So they're pretty much stuck in one of their modes, but I don't mind as they're the modes I'd prefer for them. The real surprise was Ironhide's electronics. I opened him up to find nearly two decade old exploded batteries all crusted up in him. So I figured they weren't gonna work. Went about cleaning him without much care, soaking him in soapy water for a while and scrubbing out the mess inside of him, separated the electronic bit from the main body, drowned it in alcohol, and set in rice on the off chance it'd make it. Lo and behold, it works! These toys really were made outta somethin' else, holy shit. Modern stuff feels like it'll break if you look at it wrong, but these thing's feel like they'll outlast me. Anyways, I've just been nostalgic for 2000's era stuff lately and just felt like sharing. Thanks for reading my blog post I guess lol.

the eyes are the only part of that rattrap beast mode that aren't pretty good, yeah. he kinda looks like a small zoid, taht's kind of a seat on his back if you squint. but the eyes are goofy, and they're higher than the ears.. and I guess the cheeks are also kinda dumb. and he has a silly The Brain jagged tail, but I can forgive that because the shape is balanced well.

don't quote me on this, but i think masterpiece Primal was made to let T30 Rattrap cling to his back like he did in the show. like specifically. or else, at least, it's possible.
of course he's a little smaller than MP scale, but because his size cheated pretty hard on the show, the beast mode is the right size.

Well SS Hot Rod was made using Voyager class budget. Maybe if Hot Shot had the same treatment he would have turned out better, though some still don't like the idea of a Deluxe+ toy released as a Voyager.

That's one of the perks of an open packaging, I was able to choose which Hot Shot had the least floppy and most secure visor and bought that one. Apparently if you push the Visor way back on his head that causes the Visor to expand and become very loose and floppy.

also as much as i love scorpions, they make lousy enemies for this sort of action movie (There's a reason they fought soldiers in the original). they're really low to the ground, and all of their weaponry is aimed even lower, because it's based on hunting and eating smaller things. you have to either make them massive in order for the heroes to be able to land a hit without.. stomping, and then putting them right in the path of all of its weapons, or make them small and have them swarming all over someone.

Transformers Classics Ramjet

I think I'm almost completely done talking about this mold. Did I do Skywarp?

Ramjet was the last of three seekers to come out in Classics. Obviously first was Starscream, Skywarp in the two-pack with Ultra Magnus, then this guy.

I got Ramjet at my first Botcon in 2011, MOC for 20 bucks I think. I remember thinking it was a good deal at least.
And in that package I got this white and red jet of unknown model. With bulbous missiles and four engines.
When it comes to the coneheads all you can really talk about id their wing shape,. Ramjet is the one shaped like a triangle for going very fast and ramming into stuff.

The most interesting thing Ramjet after you have nine of the same mold is how his colours change in between modes.
The jet was white and red with grey trim. The robot on the other hand is white and grey with gold accents.

Ramjet is also the one that wears his wings the lowest. Given the shape almost resembles a cape, and the gold dotting the toy, it almost gives him a somewhat more regal look from certain angles.

I got all three flavours of MP Skids pretty much just because, and I'll probably get an MP Burnout too if I find one.
On the other hand Dia Burnout was the only version of Legacy Skids I got. To both get that mold and to complete the Speedia 500 collection, same with Road Rocket and Blurr.
But on the other other hand Clampdown and Road Hauler were far from my first grabs at those molds.

Definitely getting Toxitron if I can too. So he'll be a mold mate with Scourge

Both.
Diaclone had two versions of the pair, red/blue and gray/blue. Neither was used in Transformers, where they were white/blue.
South America gave them several different decoes that I'm too lazy to list. They didn't even do the whole swapped colors thing the two have going on.
You might think Hasbro/Takara wouldn't bother with the SA versions, but there's a chance. Bear in mind Loudpedal was based on an obscure deco exclusive to Finland.

Superion is definitely one of the better CW molds. Hell, they used Silverbolt as the base for both Hun-gurr and Turtler. Just don't expect much variety in the limbs, especially on the UW version.

Thats a lot, but its a really good set, the colors are more vibrant than the cw version and it includes Slingshot who was a hard to get exclusive on the cw set.

Its by far the most stable cw combiner, but you still need to track or print the add on hands and feet (aliexpress got reissues of the pe ko hands).

The only problem with UW Superion is that the CW hand foot guns suck so you're going to want 3rd party add-ons regardless.
It's crazy to me how HasTak actually designed perfectly good combiner hand and feet pieces but only a few Combiners actually included them.

SS Galvatron was such a let down, he should've been a parts formers. Still waiting for Optimus and Bumblebee, but I doubt either will be good, or planned.

if it's the one i'm thinking of that is. it's insane they were able to make that work as well as they did. he comes off like one of those beast wars masterpiece guys. particularly dinobot, that one had to push so hard to accomodate the cheats, that both modes have a bunch of obviously concave or convex pieces that shouldn't be, but have to be, so they can flip around and become the opposite

Found Bulkhead for half price clearance today. It's ok. Like one of the most middling Transformers I've ever had. Nothing terrible, I'll use him as G1 Animated Bulkhead, but he's so much nothing.

Every Jetformer is a voyager nowadays. It would make more sense if she was just a tall deluxe like Ironhide since they can afford to be lighter and have less kibble due to the proportions. It would be weird if she was as tall as the rest of the seekers

The Takara Legends Slipstream is so far the only "good" one, and it's impossible to get at a reasonable price which makes me unreasonably mad.

It's funny how Slipstream tends to have unique designs but people keep requesting simple recolors of Starscream. Even her original Animated design was noticeably smaller and lither than the other Starscreams.

I had to buy junkers and then combine them to get mine, that was years ago these days you can get a barebones junker and 3d print the helmet, hands, chest ramp and even his massive guns.

i like the movement toward more realistic, humanish dialogue instead of the artificial crap we were bombarded with in the prior decades. does it get stupid and cringey a lot? fuck yes. but i enjoyed cringing a little in movie 1, thought 2 and 3 were just fine, absolutely despised 4's dialogue, and then laughed my ass off at 5's dialogue despite most other aspects of that movie blowing chunks. Anthony Hopkins and John Torturro kill it in every scene for me. The rest I can take or leave.
as for the robots' dialogue, it seems to fall into one of four categories:

>can't hear shit, too modulated or the scene is too loud
>funny accents, i like it. glad this character isn't reading paragraphs of dialogue though
>something dumb that only lasts a second, throwaway shit

tigatron is shelfwarming because they made far too few of them and delayed it, and THEN suddenly made way more to compensate, but it was too late.

Some issues about posability being worse than the already-meh T30 or something I can't remember, and them choosing to pick a mobage design rather than BW or irl rhino designs
He's was never my favourite but I wouldn't mind nabbing a new friend for cheap in the near future. I'm banking on unpopular guys or obscure randos shelfwarming, but I've overlooked factors about like, supply and production

Finished watching a review, and man what an overly intricate transformation. And then the back bit just sits like that, unfoldable? And dinky guns, and some hollowness.. very subpar but does look tanky enough to be someone's Rhinox if they missed T30.
