I get the feeling that “Destiny” in Bionicle means something slightly different than how we know it as. Instead of merely being a predetermined outcome, “Destiny” is more along the lines of “You were the best for the task at hand”
Like, for example
>The Ignika requires a sacrifice. Matoro doesn’t think much of sacrificing himself. Must be Destiny.
>The Golden Armor is fit for a Toa Mata wearing a Hau. Tahu wears a Hau by default as a Mata. Destiny I suppose

I just read a part that was discussing destiny. It was talking about Makuta's plans, and how he planned around destiny, and how destiny isn't something easy to divert, but it's implied that it is possible. I think it really is as simple as a predetermined outcome, which in some way diminishes the stakes, but only if we know about them. That said, who really knows where destiny starts and where it ends. For example, did the Mahri need to survive, per destiny, while holding off the Barraki? Because if not, it's fully possible that Matoro lost himself immediately to the Ignika and didn't maintain his sense of self needed to rescue them, so in such a case they did all die there. So he'd have fulfilled his destiny, and the Inika/Mahri did their jobs, they just happened to have all died. Or, what about Chirox intercepting Matoro as he's using the mask, rather than just looking elsewhere by happenstance, could he have stopped Mata Nui from being revived?

I appreciate the idea behind creative packaging, but that's way too excessive, and it would just suck up more of the budget from the line, when it was already apparently stretched thin from the Cordak Blaster and a Titan that went over budget.

Destiny was just how the bonkles interpreted their machine programming, their function. It's not a mystical thing and it's not set in stone.
A Mata Nui robot can fail to achieve their destiny or be given a new one or try to ignore it altogether.
And ultimately it's only relevant for the Toa.

Considering we have things like the Great Beings, the Ignika being aware when it's time for its power to be used (allowing this only once before Matoro), the coming of the Toa Mata (despite the malfunction), the stars preordaining events, Makuta Teridax precisely expecting nearly everything happening (including playing his part to further ensure things happen). Despite the world being partially robotic, there's definitely more than just gears turning, and a definite mysticism to things. At least that's my interpretation.

It's voted on by randoms, so it's ultimately on the voters if they pick a boring design. To be fair, a design for someone like Nidhiki will always be pretty boring if they're constrained by the design of Lhikan. The Mangai I guess had some weird unusual designs in those fan contests.

Also I'm gonna be the boring one, Lariska should be sleek, slightly tall (shorter than Roodaka and not as fat), and with her little knives everywhere.

I will never tire of Tahu, he will always be my favorite Toa. I would argue that the Hau is the most iconic iconography of Bionicle as well, and that being paired with Tahu makes him the most iconic Toa (on top of being the leader, the red one, etc). Anyways, just spouting my love of Tahu.

Just had a thought (that I'm sure many have pondered), could you imagine if the Stars were regular canister sets? It would have been incredibly cool to see a modern Tahu Mata, Takanuva, and the rest.

Because they are the real Tahu. Mistika might have been designed as a red color goon and assigned the name, stars is the toon world version, G2 is the overdesigned homage and uniter is the overdesigned moc of the previous one, mixel has the color balance wrong, and anniversary was either a cute nod or a dismissive present.

It still amazes me that despite all the 2008 Toa obviously being generic "good guys" at some point in their design process that eventually got the Mata names dumped on them, that Lewa mostly looks name-appropriate. Easily the best of all the 2008 Toa.

Because the early years still had parts designed with a cohesive art style. The metru were the pinnacle of this in my opinion. Look at how the feet, torso, legs and armor pieces all have this segmented detail with a lot of straight lines on the outside of the pieces. This makes for a very coherent look that the later years lost by being less clone sets, but the waves started blending together.
Now look at Tahu Mistika. Piraka legs with metru armor, with a mask that fits neither. He looks like a moc mate out a parts bin.

Bohrok and Kal, Rahkshi, Visorak, Metru, Hordika, all had the same builds. Nuva were extremely samey too, though Pohatu and Onua still looked slightly different, despite them all having 2 weapons each, and the same 2 gears. Metru and Hordika both had 2 weapons with the same gear functions, and were otherwise identically built. The enemies are very nearly identical aside from a few minor differences in sculpts and occasionally armor.

There are two sets of Mistika prototypes around. One group has early proto-Makuta and they are unrecognizeable. The other is very late-stage, the only differences being Bitil's mask color and Tahu and Gali:

As some designers have said, they design the sets with no guidance (which is a massive mistake for cohesiveness) and then present them to, at the time, Greg and others, and they then incorporated them into the story. I appreciate that sometimes a given designer could have some wild ideas over the others, but that works best with characters that don't need coherence, like the Glatorian or Barraki, but with a Toa team there should be some measure of coherence.

You reeaally hate how the Turaga were portrayed, huh. Given your changes it sounds like you're talking strictly story, I'd keep Makuta as an entity rather than a species. I still don't get the reasons for changing his name, and making it a species. 'The Brotherhood of Makuta' could fully imply people that report to Makuta, where he's the leader. Could easily have been the Brotherhood of Miserix before 'Teridax' took over, for example. I am good with Makuta gaining a form. Early Bionicle villains weren't all that interesting, so having this singular villain was a good foil. He could have stuck around with an evolving form, as I'm not sure how much I liked the idea of his gaseous form that inhabits armor.

I never saw the movie, and only knew them as toys. They were strong and held their own in fights, and mentoring the Toa, in my little play sessions. Don't worry too much about how they're portrayed. I think of them as "old masters", and I bet if we got a series or something they'd probably be like the old guy in Ninjago, being a master. If only that were the same for the Mistika Makuta. The prototypes really looked creepy and mean, to Barraki levels. The final sets play it a bit too safe IMHO, very angular and smooth designs in the masks. They ironically look more like masks than the Phantoka Makuta masks do.

The chest piece is pretty cool but that's about it (I swear the black one I had must have been in like every fucking toa of earth moc I've ever made), you can try to use the helmets as armor or boobs too but the connection point is hard to work with. Technic hockey player. If you press down on the head it swings the stick. All the different sets swung their sticks in different ways, it was actually kind of cool, but they weren't that interesting as toys since they were just bricks apart from the action. The canisters they came in doubled as water bottles.

Are golden Kanohi a universal concept or exclusive to Toa Mata? Can you have a golden Kanohi with any combination of powers or is it related to unity/destiny etc. of a Toa team to form them? The Toa of the later years didn't even have access to masks of their team mates, which of course was because they weren't product collectibles anymore - let alone golden masks.

Should I feel bad? I find myself loving the hero factory villains and G2 more than Collecting Gen1? I love CCBS. I find myself considering Ben 10 and even looking at the Star Wars stuff I don't need, like Kylo Ren, just for his lighsaber and cape parts, to buff my Gen 2s.

The wise move would be to always get Gen 1, and bank on technic. The Uniters are marvels, but the G2 villains steal the show. Lava Beast and Umarak and The Skull Army were metal as fuck.

I think a hypothetical 2025 Gen 3 has a higher probability of being more compatible with Gen 1 because of more technic connection points, but CCBS has them too.

Roboriders would also appear to be highly useful in the future. Perhaps even Slizers.

Have more in universe time pass between story events. If you look at the official timeline you realize that the entire story (not counting the 04-05 flash back arcs) took place over the span of like two years. There should have been at least a year minimum between each arc, but because Bionicles don't experience biological aging you could have gotten away with a century between each arc and have been fine.

That's only really necessary for the Mata Nui saga, which in hindsight is weaker when you realize the Toa Nuva only knew their koros for a few months tops before they had to move back to Metru Nui and everything really went to shit.
But it makes sense for Jaller's team's adventure and Karda Nui to have only lasted a couple of weeks at most. There was urgency in saving Mata Nui and the story didn't really have any breaks that allow centuries to pass.

Matoran are physically nearly ageless, they're thousands of years old. They only change when their entire being changes. Seem plausible for some Matoran to be older than some Turaga, but as the latter have experienced life as a Toa, they technically do have greater experience than most Matoran, at least.

When the cataclysm happened their recharge stations were overloaded with electricity. Most Vahki were destroyed, some survived and ended up going haywire. They didn't really gain sentience though. Normally they would communicate with each other using the Matoran language at a super high pitched and fast rate, so to citizens they just sounded like hums and clicks. After they got fried their speech processes were randomly slowed down, so when the Toa Metru ran into a few they could understand what the Vahki were saying.

I think Hordika really would have benefitted in the post Mahri/Barraki era. With more unique sets I think they could have come up with much more beastial looks for them. The only weird thing was the hunch and differing arms. Technically Onua and Pohatu had hunches, and Tahu, Lewa, and Kopaka all had 2 different sets of arms, do really not that weird.

The design language of Metru Nui was just too clean and mechanical for what they wanted to do with the Web of Shadows arc. It's why 2006's style was so shocking back then, even though we take it for granted now.
Dare to say, I'm convinced the underwhelming reception the Visorak received was less about them being clone sets, and more due to the fact they just didn't look like the creepy and disgusting hellspawns the story made them out to be.

On the other hands, the Hordika face-masks not looking blatantly evil makes them more versatile, for Rahi or other non-Matoran species.

Just got around to watching this one and the one on Nuparu, can't wait to watch Pridak and Matoro (actually interested in this one the most). A shame the Cordak blasters ate up so much budget. Really interesting he wanted Nuparu to have waist movement like Pridak.

Also, if Nuparu's shield was actually meant to be a fancy sci-fi sword that must be where the Aqua Blaster Blade came from. Funny that he wasn't even meant to be a shield user at first. I'm sure this has been pointed out already though.

I hope an insider tells the story, we got bits and pieces from the guy who designed Pridak and Nuparu talking about his part in the design process. Yup, them being a group of scientists was a neat idea but what killed it for me was how overpowered they ended up being. Literally each of them were Teridax-tier in terms of Kraata powers, shadow and Antidermis characteristics. Terry Ducks was mighty but he was more brain than muscle iirc, there should've been some scale of Makuta powers.

That torso piece is quite used in some mocs iirc, I've seen a bunch of those.
The helmet I also saw as shoulder pads or even knee armor, and like the other anon said those feet came in pearl gold with Brutaka and Nivawk.
I never saw the face piece being used.

Maybe. I have to say that I really like the dark blue Hau Mistika. I'm quite a fan of the flipped colors prototype Mohtrek too (black to yellow instead of yellow to black). I was looking for a picture of that but I couldn't find it, but I did find this one which is pretty neat and I had never seen before.

I think having 6 toa per wave is too much. Could easily cut it down to 4 or or split the teams. G2 suffered due to mostly shit villains that were vastly overpowered by the toa as toys.

I just have to ask; where did the stuff about it "being too expensive to store old injection moulds" come from? Just saw a video from some guy talking about """rumours""" for g3 and he brought it up. I'm not a mouldmaker but I do work in plastic injection and it sounds like absolute bullshit to me. It's not unusual for these steel moulds to be left untouched for years (I've seen some left for decades) and work just fine as long as you're not a retard and store then in a moist shithole where they can rust. Is it just a cope the community came up with?

Molds are rather expensive to make, they have to produce big volumes to make a profit, and they wear out fast from big volumes. Plus they have a ton of machines running, and a lot of part variety. It doesn't make sense to store every useless mold for nostalgia, so they can rust in peace or be "misplaced" to then appear in a bootleg factory in Vietnam, they have to be scrapped.
DESTROYED doesn't mean the molds are spitefully detonated by ammunitionsrydningstjenesten on the parking lot, it just means they were disposed of like every used mold. The molds were retired, meaning they aren't in production anymore, but that doesn't necessarily mean the specifications for them were lost. It's up to many different poorly integrated sections of the company to figure out if bringing the ancient parts back for a few nostalgic 30 year olds and internally compete with new experimental constraction that can be disney-branded is worth the resources and productionand storage space at all.
