it looks like the SS one is cooler looking, but very undistinct and samey, while the mainline one is brickish, but more 'rhinoxy' and has that fun shoulder horn, and his beast mode is at least more appropriate as a rhino instead of a weird sloth monster.

Which pretender do anons want the most? Because the cores are fantastic so far, I don't know how Skullgrin's faring, despite fanmodes. I feel you could make Submarauder by heavily retooling Iguanus, but there's an absolute lack of Autobot pretenders so far.

I don't really want the human ones, but I wouldn't mind at all if it was, yknow, robot modes based sort of on those human modes, since most of them were wearing scifi-ass suits anyway. Just mechanize those and you're good I suppose.
marketing is retarded, I have ALWAYS had more bad guys than good guys. even with zoids, well I might have had more of an even number but I did a lot more customs on the 'good' side because they were much less visually interesting, and needed some help.
But yeah Finback would be cool, Bugly, Submarauder would be insane. Octopunch... and the beasts too, all four of them were great.
Not to keep harping on zoids but Tomy had a similar line of motorized bipedal mechs back in the day that a lot of these pretenders remind me of. Starriors I think they were called.

I agree, in number I think I have or until recently had more bad guys than good.
Definitely Octopunch and Bludgeon would be nice, I'd be interested to see how they make a Stranglehold
Still don't know much about zoids, but I vaguely remember that they're dead/obscure forever, anything to throw them a bone might be cool, maybe the beast pretenders

The plastic's actually pretty good, and the set itself is great. Only problem is some of the figures are misassembled with their parts swapped between members and the paint's wrong.

Not particularly, I quite like the Siege mold even if kibble management is better on Earthrise Optimus. It's mostly the colors that elevate the 35th Anniversary figure for me, I really love the white thighs and the bright red and blue they used.

Anyone here got Studio Series Cheetor ? I know it's not the most mind blowing transformation but it seems pretty accurate to the movie in both mode so I can't really fault Hasbro for that. How is it to handle and pose, at least in robot mode ?

We've tried that before. All that accomplishes is filling the catalog with 4-5 threads and makes the other generals bitch about /tfg/ getting out of hand, since this is one of the faster moving generals on an otherwise slow board. We were making new threads at page 9 for ages before a certain autist came along and started making his own threads (purely for the power he thinks it gives him. He enjoys making others jump to his whims, and when people started bitching about it, he decided he needed to 'punish' the disobedient, hence the current stalemate). Honestly, as much as you keep demanding people just give in, I will personally oppose the fucker at every opportunity - and I'm not even the anon you're responding to, which means there are other like-minded individuals who will refuse to acknowledge his attempts to seize control. he can suck our balls if he doesn't like it, but if he's here to stay, then so are we.

I have him. He's quite stable, plenty posable. The shoulder assembly gets out of the way when you want it to, but not in a way that makes it look detached and superfluous. and the altmode, while definitely not a cat, is a passable amphicyon

what I did was deliberately mistransform the feet. Makes the (honestly very clever) foot transformation less fun and interesting (and restricts the knee articulation), but looks a ton better (aside from missing out on that cool kneecap)
I would be open to buying thirdparty replacement robot feet, as they are just on little friction pegs.

oh I did think of one more slight flaw, but if the feet don't bother you I doubt this will: the hands not transforming at all. a flip-out knuckle spike does not a paw make.
the robot feet wouldn't be so bad to me if they didn't have a LONGER heel behind them. It looks awkward and backwards. .. bawrkward..

his greatest aspect has to be the clever way the tail folds up into an awesome looking spine for his back.

This is indeed a photoshop, the head and sword used on that picture are the ones from RID Deluxe Bludgeon. But we've also known for several months now (if the leaks are true, and they most likely are), that Bludgeon will indeed be using Tarn's mold. We do not know however about how much it will be remolded, but since it's most likely based on its IDW look, not that much.

To my knowledge, all the alternative parts for a recolor (not a partial) are on the same mold, which often includes a second head and/or accessory. sometimes I wish there were more clever engineering things you could do to make remolds more distinct. Like engineer the hips so that if assembled THIS way, it transforms this way, but flip them around and now it makes a very different altmodes shape. all with just a switch of a pin

I find the mainline very charming personally. Obviously it's not without its faults, but they work really well for what they are.

Optimus Prime has flaws (the feet in truck mode look like shit, the head on a swivel does hurt the posability) but apart from that, it's a very fun figure to handle, pose and transform, and that's what I enjoy the most so I'm satisfied with that.

Primal looks really good in my opinion, even if more ankle movement would have done this guy wonders and the bulky design limits the toy more than Prime, but the transformation is still pretty satisfying and the gorilla mode looks really good too.

He's one of the dancingest figures I've picked up recently.
He's got the whole standard loadout of posability, plus forward/backward at the ankles, a hella ab crunch, and ball jointed wrists with a cut for bending inward
The proper waist turns like 10 degrees but he's got a swivel below his titties to make up for it.
Elbows have a near double jointed range of bend, knees go just over 90.
And because he's Optimus of course his shoulders butterfly back a bit

Really all I would ask for is the head to be able to look up and a deeper knee

I wouldn't say Kingdom Primal as much as most Optimus Primal in general ? Quite frankly, everything this Primal does in a generic way is a product of the fact that it goes from a gorilla to a robot. I think the head transformation works similarly but the torso is pretty fun in its own right.

To me it's the bulky design that sets it apart from the rest. The transformation scheme is what you would mostly expect from a Primal Toy.

Also, I'm a bit biased on these since they may be my favorite pieces of weaponry in the last decade, but SS05's blades work very well with the mainline figure. The wrists need to be ajusted just right for the blade to look good, but with it's mostly great articulation, the figure rock these blades more than most other movieverse Optimus.

I wish the RotB Battle Masters weren't so expensive for what they are. So much more appealing than the Siege Battle Masters, but at least 30% too expensive for their size and complexity.

I remember when you could get 3 minicons for about the same price.

I like both figures from the first wave, but Prime is the clear winner. Chainclaw is pretty fun, and prime is well articulated, where primal does look cool, but is very limited (45° knees and no head movement) Also, Arrowstripe is the only battle master that I would consider outright bad.

I absolutely love how she looks but I have to say that she would have been way better with a little bit more articulation.

I don't want to be too negative because the fact that we're getting off-model figures in 2023 feels quite special and it's super refreshing, since they feel like they have been designed as toys first, and not as something that needs to look faithful to whatever is onscreen at that moment, but even without adding wrists or waist articulation, I would have really liked for her knees to have a bit more of a deeper bend.

Slender designs tend to be less forgiving when not articulated enough, and I probably had way too high of an expectation for her, so I'm probably the one at fault here. Also, I think she looks even better with her shoulderpads down in bot mode. Almost like she's wearing a tunic, and it works well with her weapons too, weither you use them as daggers like intended or combine them into a bow.

I went to see the exhibition of Andrew Sorohan's art today. There was a bit of Transformers art on display, but the big surprise for me was the partial toy collection they had there. Oh, that took me back big time.

Look at how just the Pansexual Lando & his droid comment completely tanked the box office of Solo: A Star Wars Story. And gays were not enough to save "Bros" from being a complete flop.

Chasing a demographic that does not have economic power needed to sustain your product is a business disaster. Furthermore, they have a black girl as their main character, and the black community is FAR more against this particular gay agenda than any other.

This was truly poorly planned and poorly implemented. And sperging out about ESG & Black Rock hasn't done shit for Bud Light's failing stock prices.

To be fair the game designs aren't particularly great at translating into toy form. The designers for the game models didn't really have to car where parts go because the vehicle mode is a separate model. Plus the clipping between parts that was seen as a nonfactor.

Did you design it? You seem to know more about toy designing than me or the guy who did it. The original WFC and FoC toys were great for accuracy (though some not for playability like the Combaticons) but Barricade was never part of the original line and is a C-lister compared to the guys who got toys. Now I can agree with you on Bumblebee and Optimus to an extent but for Barricade, this is his first time getting one and it's clear from the model comparisons that they mostly got him accurate but didn't have enough parts to turn that robot mode into vehicle mode. You tell me where those parts on his robot mode would go in vehicle mode, I can't because just with the naked eyes it looks impossible without parts coming out of nowhere like what the game usually does.

You said it yourself anon, Bayformers are accurate but it was never 100% accurate. DOTM Megatron has boxy legs where the movie doesn't and has a rectangular backpack which again the movie design didn't but the rest is for the most part accurate. Same with WFC Barricade here, his body design is accurate but he has added kibble that wasn't on the game design because the game design was never made to transform at all. The vehicle mode's bull bar is nowhere to be seen in his robot mode in gameplay but there it is and how are you going to deal with that in a deluxe toy? Well they made it part of the feet because that's the best place to put it during design phase apparently. I can overlook Barricade as a result, Bumblebee and Optimus not so much in comparison.

Yeah, I'm pretty much the same in that regard. for how good Tarn looks, I really dislike fiddling with it since the shoulders are really bad.

Also, I really like the lion head a lot more after cutting the upper teeth. It just looks so much more natural, even without modfying the eyes.

It's mistransformed. The sides of his chest fold in a bit to make him more compact and fills out some of the hollowness. It honestly doesn't look too horrible, but I really, REALLY don't need another Bee in any incarnation at this point.

The leak says he has a different voice actor, so I'm guessing he's a whole new character (or a 'reformatted' Primal akin to Galvatron rather than just an upgrade).
On a side note, it's weird - I have no interest in the new movie and no desire to get any of the toys of Primal, since my Kingdom one is just fine; however, I would have no problem buying an Apelinq repaint of RotB Primal, regardless of the lore behind him in the movie.

I never had a chance to go to one since I was only a kid but I remember being so fascinated with all the exclusive characters and toys and their stories. It was the first time Transformers lore really opened up for me since I only watched Beast Wars at that point and it helped introduce me to g1 stuff season 3 was about. I remember reading some of the comics online too.

I actually never bought a really expensive TransArt or 3rd party toy until I saw news about Arcee and knew I had to have one because I always wanted one as a kid. I never had a chance to get any of those characters. Like I am a huge Beast Wars and Transmetal 1 fans but the MP and 3rd Party Beast Wars didnt bring me in until Arcee happened. I get so happy whenever Botcon exclusives get mainline toys too, but I didnt keep up with collecting Shattered Glass very much. Also I love Universe which tied into the Wreckers or Botcon or something too. Cant wait to see if we get Razorclaw out of Tigerhawk and holy shit mainline Toxitron and Nightprowler.

For some fucking reason I had a g1 Blitzwing as a kid somehow.

I've never had the opportunity to attend one of these, sadly - I only got into the collecting game about 2-3 years ago, and while my collection has grown to around a hundred or so bots in that short time span, most of the fun botcon stuff has been out of my price range on the secondhand market. I've caved and splurged exactly three times on some of the 'cheaper' stuff that people clearly only got specifically to resell and not because they actually wanted to keep the things, but it's really not something I can do often, and I know I'll never see the likes of the rarer stuff (like the original SG Megatron).

I will warn you anon I broke several of these from accidental table falls. The plastic is cheaper than usual kids meal toys made during that era. That being said my favorite is Megatron and Starscream. Megatron is essentially a legends class figure with glow in the dark and a cool punch gimmick while Starscream has a very good Jump-Starter like gimmick, his wings are fragile as hell though so don't have him skid off a table.

This is some good thinking. The only Earthspark guy I want is Shockwave, mostly because I like making Shockwave drone army setups. I also like cassette dude variants so I like hoarding Soundwaves. Insecticon/Waruder hordes are also fun so I'll pick those up any time I see something new. Animals generally grab my attention but if it's not a Beast Wars character, one of these RotB beast battle masters, or Skullcruncher (I fucking love Skullcruncher) might pass. This influx of RotB stuff is almost too much for me right now. My robot animal zoo doesn't need to be that big. Besides, if I want all the beast battle masters I'm going to have an extra Prime and Wheeljack hanging around. Could use some ideas as to what do with them.

After thinking about it for a few minutes, the ideal altmode for Elita-1 would be a cargo plane like Cybertron Jetfire or RotF Stratosphere. Out of the existing ones, the PotP version feels the most like someone who who could stand along Optimus Prime, but switching to a transport mirrors Optimus Prime's vehicle mode more.

You are stuck with the colors, but being a vague space car just makes her overlap with Arcee even when she isn't recolored from Arcee and Earthspark's off road vehicle + guns just makes her diet Movie Ironhide. Since the limb Aerialbots and Powerglide are combat aircraft, Jetfire's null depiction is a blocky space thing and Stratosphere doesn't show up again, there isn't any issues. Only Silverbolt could complain, but carrying humans instead of other Transformers is a bad idea.

I have to think that, while it would be tough as nails to do on something that small, it'd be possible since the intended surface is smooth, and smoothing is easy...
as for getting the color right, thankfully grays are easy. Get some white, get a tiny bit of black, add it in, see if you got it. primal's face mask is a pretty light color of gray isn't it?

honestly matey it might be easier to just make a thin plastic faceplate and glue it on, so it's maybe an eighth of a millimeter thicker than it would be with the putty plan.

It's a shame, the autism to tranny pipeline claims another soul.
Who am I supposed to watch for Transformers stuff now? Slag Podcast is good for toy news but not much else, Thew was entertaining but got annoying and is infrequent, McFeely is good for occasional sharp looks at individual things but is slow to update, and Emgo provides excellent toy reviews and transformations but literally nothing else (not that I want him to, he's fine).
TJ was a nice middle ground who covered current toys, show lore, design trends, etc. that uploaded fairly frequently and had a good quality mic.
But now that's all pointless since he's decided to side with the few freaks who don't buy toys over the majority of sane fans who liked him.
