Roberts actually did push it with the idea of the Phase 6ers being Weapon X knockoffs and his ideas that Scorponok was trying to create IDW's version of Makeshifts thatc could transform into anything. He correctly pinpointed imo that Furman's biggest influence was Marvel's Ultimate line under Quesada, which was doing something similar with superheroes and mutants.

Senator Ratbat is causing me an issue. I've always liked that original one, yet I never went and grabbed it. Since I really want Miner Megatron, I'm ending up with one no matter what. But I really prefer mold variety, and I already have Scourge and Alpha Trion. Do I flip the new one and put the money towards the old one? I don't think I mind him scaling a little smaller. Are there good body shots from the comic to compare the two molds against?

Luckily for me I already have that RotF one and I can't see this new imagined one being more on point for the character. Same with Bludgeon. His RotF toy is perfect. Fuck do I need a new one for? Especially one that shares a mold with something else I may want. I'd rather keep things interesting.

I like the beast wars minis and the -ations stuff along with maximum dinobots. I dug 84 too but I'll admit the art was kinda carrying that series. Granted I don't think any of them hold a candle to his marvel UK stuff but they're far from the worse TF comics ever made. I'd read em over 2.0 or most anything after dark cybertron

Curious. Maybe they are making the original Shadowstriker separate from the Cyberverse/current design. In that case, Quickshadow would still be a feasible retool/repaint since their robot modes are similar.

Honestly who doesn't have a toy? Most of the DJD, late additions like Lightbright, Lug and Anode, and those last minute Titans.

I hope the DJD will happen. I also think they're the most likely. I'll probably take a hard look at anything that does though. Those late female Titans had some really cool things going on. I doubt Hasbro would take a 200 dollar risk on a three issue rando, but it would be fun to get some odd features on a toy that big.

Rack'n'ruin? They're probably the most well known comic character to yet to have a proper G1 toy.

Arcee's story was really interesting. The problem was that everyone got stuck on the fact that she was now a woman so obviously turning into a woman drives you crazy. Instead of the obvious fact that being experimented on without your consent would be understandably traumatic. Arcee in the comics had great story telling potential that seemed to spin out near the end because people were afraid to go all the way with it.

Because we can try something new once in a while. That's the beauty of it. Cute, Pink Leia Arcee from G1, Cyberverse, other Comics, and those weird Japanese drawings where she and Windblade are french maids still exist. This is just one interpretation of many. Hell, it even could have gone with her getting the fuck over herself and becoming all motherly and kind. That would have been really interesting.

The one character change I do absolutely despise though is Elita 1 being whatever the fuck that militaristic psychopath was in the series. But that's because it's so far removed from the original that it was pointless having her *be* Elita 1 who normally has a very specific and very rarely seen position of Optimus' Confidante. Since she's so rarely seen, not having her in that position is just...odd. Arcee you see all the time.

The idea that Cybertron just lost Female transformers after a time and Arcee finding out she's not alone are great plotpoints that should have been explored. See I find it harder with Nu Arcee because of how many versions there are. You have Arcee's ranging from G1, to Headmasters, to Energon, to Animated Arcee, to Prime Arcee. Arcee is just so prevalent that it is really what makes it easier for me to get around the idea of this different version. I think the core of the character is still there as the lone girl of the group. There's this a level of empathic connection to her but I can understand that people don't think it was capitalized one.

That is a guilty pleasure of mine, though. It is just G1-ish Bayshit, and that is kinda cool. Wonder how some random nobody was able to just write a major event that basically derailed and undid everything Furman was doing. Was he related to someone on editorial? Apparently he was buddies with the editor who was looking to go in a different direction, stable sales be damned. So he wrote a long comic where he stated he wanted to show the Autobots being heroic, but instead he had them mope on Cybertron until Drift yelled at them and then they saved the day in the last two issues. Actually, Xaaron would be an easy repaint from any of the recent Megatron toys. His original comic design seems to be based on Megatron. Hell his head is basically the G1 Megatron toy head.

How would you feel if there was a Transformer/Cybertronian design where they are similar to more hi def G1 designs, something like the Bumblebee movie designs, but the bulky armour and such is the equivalent of armour and clothes, and the actual Cybertronian body looks like stylized human muscle anatomy, with the "muscles" being various sheets of metal fibers and tubes draped over a The Terminator like metal skeleton?
Would it be too uncanny? I think it would look good, but it might not make sense transformation wise, then again a great many transformer designs have been "Japanese robot that curls up into the fetal position and magically becomes a car". So if belief can be suspended for that, then surely for this?

So, who else pulled the trigger on the Megatron/Ratbat two pack on Amazon when it was priced incorrectly? The only Elita-1 to shelfwarm was the Netflix one... a retool of the Earthrise one.

Bumblebee Arcee is the only one that has been shelfwarming somewhat, I'll give you that. There are reasons for that (small size, weird face on the box, pink) but she's actually a really good figure.

Nah, whether a figure is good or bad definitely has an effect on whether it shelfwarms or not, though it's not the only qualifier. Legacy Prime Arcee shelfwarmed because she looked nothing like the character she was supposed to be AND was a pretty bad mold.

What actually helps the various Arcees and Elita-1s is that they're usually deluxe class, and so never fill an assortment and are cheap enough for people to take a chance on. It's harder for Voyagers and Leaders, since they're both more expensive and are closer to being sold to stores in solid cases.

There's also the issue of engineering of design- the engineers may be getting better and better at making good looking solid figures at their budgets, but when the design is still a skinny girl with a big backpack it will fail no matter what. I'm hoping that the upcoming Strongarm actually uses her vehicle bulk to use to make the beefy cadet we loved from RID15- not boxy and manly, but thickly built.

To take three big examples, there's Legacy Bulkhead and Jhiaxus, and SS Coronation Starscream. Bulkhead is a dull green that blends into the packaging, while Jhiaxus is a garish white and yellow- neither appeals to the average customer when they see them, despite both being quite good figures. Coronation Starscream shelfwarmed because it was a repackaged Earthrise Screamer bundled with a purple chair.

The problem isn't that it's too complex for people to transform. It's that it's awkward transformation results in a multitude of stupid design flaws that hinder the toy for no reason. This isn't like G1 where they had to adhere to the character models. The transformation sequence was already there but they wanted it to look like Earthrise prime with the squat torso and long skinny legs instead of just making a cleaner version of the original G2 Optimus because hasbro feel the need to adhere to the same gay, homogenized look for everything to cut costs.

Plus the toy is 50+ dollars and besides the fancy trailer it doesn't really do anything better than it's previous versions. The original is better looking and the RTS one is more poseable. I would probably only place it higher than that one exclusive from Titans return (which has a better sword).

TL;DR They fucked it up in the same way they fucked up G2 Megatron and the worst part is we'll probably never get those iconic designs ever again

Nobody likes the Earthrise figure. It would be a good chance to make a better alternate seeker mold/body type but Hasbro would probably rather be lazy for short term gains.

The seeker mold looks like a fun, chunky jet-bot that actually does something during the transformation, instead of (poorly) hiding all the limbs under the wings, or just letting the cockpit hang off the back.

Idk, physical gender traits are definitely subtle, but they're there. Most of the Gali's/Nokama's/Hahli's, Vamprah, Gorast, and obviously Roodaka all read as female to me even as a kid; though, it likely helped that I was more in-tune with the story than other kids who just got them bc waow cool robot.

Still though, TF and Bionicle are both robotic designs, I don't think it's unfair to compare them. If anything I think Bionicle's approach towards female designs was more tasteful than TF's ever was: I rarely liked girl Transformers as a kid, because they all just looked like stereotypical, token [girl] girls, instead of being cool robots that happened to be female/have a few female design cues. Too many TFs are just "anatomically-correct fembot with a backpack or wings" and it sucks; no not "bc they're clearly identifiable as women," but because they're boring robot designs. No wonder they sell poorly.

People for whatever reason keeps forgetting to push the knee missiles out during transformation. Same way the headlights doesn't swivel back in place in Super Mode leaving 2 gaps on the waist there.

I mean his whole schtick was being a super old dude from before the war, and he should be one of the easiest retools to make: a slightly different deco, a new headsculpt and a sword, and that's basically it? The ER Seeker mold isn’t terrible by any means, but people were expecting more from the first proper G1 Starscream update in 14 years, especially after Siege Starscream the year prior. While that may not have had an especially great alt mode or transformation, it was a fantastic robot action figure, and people were anticipating ER Starscream to at least be on par. Hasbro meddling unfortunately made that impossible. I think the Classics mold was great for its time and I still think the ER mold is fine as is, it’s just underwhelming.

With regards to Needlenose, if nothing else it's had great word of mouth. QC on the toy is exceptional for the time, the plastic feels solid, articulation is great, joint tolerance is perfect and paint apps are clean. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone with a complaint about the toy that wasn’t simply that they didn’t like the design.
Could it have been better? Most definitely. It should probably have been a voyager, the larger budget and bigger size could have allowed for a transformation that did a better job of hiding the robot mode, but at a deluxe price point with todays budget I’d say the figure did exactly what it needed to do as an update to the G1 character.

Maybe fold the arms completely into the chest? Personally I'm happy with the Needlenose got, as you say, that's how he looks. Robot bits hanging under vaguely realistic fighter planes is such a dumb thing to complain about, particularly on G1 style designs. It's unavoidable, you either accept it or don't buy.

Where is Sentinel? I am really happy about the senators and miner Megs but feel a bit sad for this lack of the big badass Prime. Megatron Origin was cool as shit and I am forever curing that Dreamwave dude for killing off his own publishing company because I would throw my money at them to see the original idea of this unfold. Anyway, we are even getting Nova, which is admittedly cool (albeit I think that the mold won't do him justice) but he had no relation to miner Megatron or the age he lived in so I am a bit surprised we are getting him instead of Sentinel.
Maybe he's easier to remold but I cannot imagine that there is no toy that comes close to Sentinel's bodytype. He is basically just a huge and heavy armed vehicle with a particular head.

Still sad we never got another Xaaron. It pains me how much all new media is ignoring him. He had such an important and cool role and I would prefer him over any of the standard Autobots that have to be in every series these days but I fear that there is a higher chance that they let Elita overtake his role than ever bringing him back. I am not a fan about Elita being shoved into every story these days to the be tough woman that's setting things right when Optimus fucks up.

BlitzWolfer is atrocious though, and making it an in universe bad ad lib doesn’t actually make it better. It should have been something like Night-howler, BewareWolf, or even just Wolfsbane instead.

More controversially, I think Wildvine is too similar to Wildmutt, though I actually prefer it of the two names, so I’d have probably changed Wildmutt to Diremutt or something.
