There we go, a proper thread. Anyway, I managed to get some some extra weapons and a junker and while giving a second rocket Launcher to ER Wheeljack, it dawned on me that I have no clue why the rocket Launcher has that peg hole.

Most figures around this point would have at least two weapons that could interact in some way, but none of the Wheeljack releases included a different weapon (sg added new weapons, but those weren't part of the ER molds, only added later), so it makes me wonder if they mold had other weapons or if they added a random peghole to the weapon for the hell of it.

I used to like them more than "lame, unposable vehicles" as a kid. Animals are much more personable and dynamic. But then I grew up and realized that vehicles can be personable too, and you can whoosh or vroom them and also like, 80% of the characters were vehicles of a sort.
I've a happy middle ground with the core pretenders now, with happy animal people turning into tiny vehicles.

Unrelated to this, Wheeljack also used the normal rocket launcher the toy had, but only one of them. No version included a second, which makes it weird because if they never intended to make a second launcher, why use the toy design instead of the larger one from the show?

I'm so fucking mad at myself.
Turns out the ebay listing I made on offer om just was sold today before I got a chance to buy it. It was a 120 dollar botcon Cyclonus that I was going to display with Transarts Botcon figures. I just wanted to calm down on big ebay purchases since I spent a lot there this month and was waiting till I get payed at the end of May.
Im so fucking mad right now but maybe I'll just get a G1 Cyclonus...

Transmetals would be very fun too. They looked a bit icky but I was never against the concept, when they look good in both main modes and the vehicle mode was either a cute add-on or a neat bonus, instead of something weird and half-assed.

Don't ever do this, never buy something similar that's not the actual thing you want as you will forever regret it. Just wait til another of the Botcon ones comes around, it may be awhile but it's worth it to wait for the one you really want.

Try not to worry about it. I missed out on some auctions here and there and a lot of the time the items get relisted because someone's plastic crack addiction caused them to overspend and resulted in me getting a second chance offer. Even then, these toys show up all the time so long as you set a saved search and be patient. Even the grails appear. Also glad you liked the Botcon archive links; I noticed you could change the year in the URL and get different year archives as well.

but he has some pretty dumb hands. One extra joint to flip the shark tail back over a forearm like a cool arm blade thing would be nice, and the disembodied mouth is very weird too.. if the upper jaw could split into two fingers, it'd be better?

It was. Everything was better than Sunbow G1. The Japanese had to save G1, and it wasn't until Masterforce they hit their stride. The movie was OK I suppose but is tainted by its connection to the dogshit TV series.

you should be able to touch that up no problem. it's a transparent red over the silver, right? hell, a sharpie could nail that, but you can also get clear red model paint. And you can paint over the existing red in case it's not a perfect match, who's gonna know? or you could scrape it all off first.

It's a black version of the Cybertron/Maximal Buster, the generic good guy weapon from BWII.
MP-48 comes with a toon accurate version if you want to compare.

Transformers Generations Scourge

Another from the time of Generations reinvention, rather than remake

If I remember right Scourge's alt mode here is a real aircraft. Freakin' enormous if the scale of the windows is to be believed.
The difference I would assume is the real one didn't have Scourge's gun head poking out of it.
And maybe the extra landing gear at the back.

He's demanding about 7.5 inches of shelf real estate with that gleaming white wingspan.
Nestled between the wings are some big blue engines and fuselage and not much else colour-wise.
Just some black for the windows and smidge of robot grey peeking through.

Transformation is fun. Throws in an extra twist or two o keep you engaged.

I think the robot mode looks good.
A complaint I do have is the wingpack come unpegged a bit too easy.
Colour balance is about the same, though he's dipped his fingers and knees in some bronze paint.

The big play feature in robot mode is being able to open up Scourge's wings to unpack his two guns.
Now they don't turn into little guys but something about these guns as a certain targetmastery flavour to me.
If you prefer your Scourges to be a bit more dramatic you can leave the wings open.

Scourge has an amount of posabilty.
His neck is ball jointed for side to side and a good amount of nodding range.
Waist, elbows, and thighs swivel nicely.
Wrists too, but the hands had a bit of trouble fitting he guns for whatever reason.

Hips and ankle are both ball jointed and both feature a very good amount of outward movement.
Knees are technically double jointed if you use the transformation hinge, so quite a deep bend there.
Scourge's shoulders are the real bummer in this whole articulation package. They're on two sets of swivels, but oriented in such a way that he can't raise his arm up and out at the same time. And it gets really goofy looking if you put his arm out more than, say, 45 degrees.

Fans who grew up with G1 are TRUE Transformer fans who know the ins and outs of this franchise and what makes a good Transformer. G1 is far superior over anything the Japs made during the early 2000s where have to remind you that Armada, Energon and Cybertron all tanked in sales with toys that are ridiculously more bricks than even G1 made 20 fucking years ago at the time. It took the Bayformers and Animated which both were a love letter to G1 to save this franchise. Fuck off goanon, Americans are the only ones who can make an American IP like Transformers good.

Oh, I have a bunch of these dudes! Snapped them up nice and cheap to use as Sweeps for my SS86 Scourge - they're a little shorter than him, but it works out fine - I like my 'generics' looking a little different from their boss. Also, there's a way to make his robot head poke out of his jet mode's top, like SS86's and the cartoon, though I don't remember if it's shown in the instructions.

probably helps that both heads still color match with their bodies, reminds me I need to get back to my minor collecting goal of obtaining at least one version of every modern Predacon mold/character*, which is something I probably wouldn't have started on if I hadn't lucked into when Target had done those deep discounts on the Buzzworthy Bumblebee versions of Dinobot, Terrorsaur, and that four pack with Goldbug, Skorponok, Skywasp/Parasite, and Ransack, and then not long after getting my hands on Sandstorm and Buzzsaw

so yeah already got a decent Predacon crew, particularly since I already have Tyrannocon Rex** from the Jurassic Park crossover set and several Fossilizers

*I imagine I'll eventually do the same for the Maximals but overall they're a lower priority

**since I have her getting BW Megatron in his T-Rex body is slightly lowered on the priority list, will probably go for his Dragon form first

This is the best Megatron, like Laser Prime is the best Optimus Prime.

Both are vastly better than the original toys, not only in terms of being toys, which is like, duh, but silhouette. Laser Prime and G2 Megs have far more presence than G1 and most everything after.

Talking only toys inspired by the original Optimus, only Classics gets close to Laser Prime. Unicron Trilogy and you have an argument for Armada and Cybertron though.

Megatron isn't so lucky. All of them try too hard to be G1 when the beauty of G2 Megs is it isn't. It cribs notes from Brawl, but does them all better. Of particular note is the shoulder cannon, that alone adds so much presence to the figure.

No Megatron comes close, none of them have a solid argument because they keep trying to shove the gun robot into something else, not redesigning Megatron to work. Honestly the film Megatron's, especially The Last Knight, work better than anything lavishly G1.

It's kind of funny though, going along the same design principles, Energon Megatron absolutely nails what an updated Galvatron should be over Universe Galvatron, which is just poopy. If TR Galvatron did anything wrong, it was not taking more from Energon Megatron.

G2 Megatron, a proper one in terms of shape, needs to be made.

I tried dripping a bit of Pledge and it didn't seem to take after letting it dry, then tried brushing sole Mod Podge into the crevice (which helped with wobbly G.I. Joe Classified Series figures) to no avail. What might you guys recommend?

I like Armada Megatron best as my ideal tank-form Megatron, desu. But I acknowledge that he's totally his own character, effectively; though then again you can say that for everyone in Armada, Optimus and Starscream included. It would be like comparing the characters to their Beast Wars equivalents/proxies; they're very subversive takes on the traditional chars.
For a take on a "regular" Megatron, I'll admit I like G2 quite a bit too. But I also am one who likes Bay Megs alot (mostly 07), and also Galaxy Force and Animated's takes. I really love the wicked dragster and the helicopter alt modes.

And hey, on the bright side for ya, hopefully the leaks are true and we'll get that core Superlink (Energon) Galvatron; I was also a fan of his design, but honestly I might be content with my Legacy Galvatron for the time being, personally. Damn is it a solid figure.

Well, Galaxy Force, Animated, Bay, Prime, and WfC/FoC Megatrons all stick the closest to the original G1 character, as far as writing goes, I would say. GF and Bay are the only ones of those that [drastically] stray from G1, and for the most part it's limited to the design, or just exaggerating one of his characteristics much more.
For Armada and Beast Wars, their Megatrons (and Optimus's) give completely new angles to the character, developing and exploring them from totally unique perspectives. BW Megatron has a gigantic ego and a hell of a revolutionary/savior complex, while Armada Megs is portrayed more like an abusive/drunkard father figure. Can also lump in MTMTE Megatron here, who as IDW's Starscream best put it, "was a glorified rioter who made things get horribly out of control for millions of years" and is now attempting to atone for his sins.
Contrast this to Bay/Prime/WfC Megatron, who're just "G1 but more monstrously evil," or Animated and GF who are "G1 but more cunning and scheming." Not that these are bad things at all, I love most of these guys - just showing where I personally divide the line I guess.

i'm biased since this is my first megatron and my first real knowledge of the character, but he really is awesome. he just LOOKS like a leader.
They keep homaging this old toy and they often fix some of the things wrong with it, but nobody has gotten it quite right in my opinion. I would want to see:

>tracks not splitting in half (this might synergize well with the previous one)
>real hands and feet
>no hollow shins
>articulation
but beyond that, keep it the fuckin same. and make him biiig just like the original. tanks are not small.

Aerodynamics. That shape produces less drag than a protruding dome or cockpit-bulge. Also the UAV in question was intended for training people to fly tailless aircraft without actually having to build a piloted full-size jet, I think.
I assume Scourge is intended to be a bigger jet that just looks a lot like the X-48. It is a bit amusing given how small the IRL plane is though. Still a good looking mold.
Actually, I'll be real, different "types" of Sweep would be cool as fuck. Maybe a ground Sweep that turns into a tank that looks like a blend of the classic soapdish spaceship and the AAT from SW.

Cameras, plural - one per each window. It gives it a panoramic 180 view instead of having to constantly rotate or adjust a camera to look at a target - it can fly in a straight line and still be able to see and lock onto a target without needing to change course.

There's an old theory that the colors for T Rex Megatron were bases on Hero Megatron and Primal was based on G2 Laser Prime. Coincidentally, both those versions are pretty much the main G2 versions for Japan as well (they also had the G2 version og G1 Prime, but whenever they talk about that era, he has the Laser Rod design). Primal also ended up in the Laser Prime body at one point.

Considering that originally, BW was a continuation of G1, it's not too farfetched.

Is SS86 core Ironhide good or underwhelming? He looks pleasant enough. Is the mold good enough to get Ratchet as well? I only have Siege Ratchet for those two characters. Rhinox is more of a Wheeljack because he's the tech genius of the group, and Dinobot is blatantly a Jetfire or Drift expy, being a Predacon who switches sides to the Maximals willingly rather than with a placebo effect from the shell program. Inferno's character is somewhat of an inspiration to Armada and Energon's Tidal Wave/Mirage and Animated's Lugnut where they are the person loyal to Megatron, except that would be returned by turning them into a disposable pawn in the end. And besides Cy-kill, who should one compare Waspinator to? (Yeah, I said it, including his tenure as Thrust, Waspinator is basically the one who is the typical punching bag where both friendly and enemy fire would love to hit time and again.)

Also, how are you guys holding up in collecting the faux Volcanicus parts? And has anyone displayed the current Dinobots with Power of the Primes Slash?

Note that the same happened to Legacy Override and Cosmos, so I'm not sure why they did this knowing how it would affect the color distribution, and it's likely that the only way we'll get a proper release with the right colors is via KO.

Do you ant him for display or play? He's wonky as a playing piece, he's a somewhat ambitious design for the line and it sort of clashes between the chonky and simple engineering philosophy and the sleek design. So his poses are pretty useless, and his weak legs makes him annoying to play with. His best feature is the Laserbeak bomb, which is VERY cool.
But conceptually, he's very cool, so mainly as a display piece he's worth it.

Anyways it's very well-animated and drawn and has a great OST. The pacing though is very wonky and is hard to follow, especially watching the first time.
I always said to watch it like it's a feature-length music video; unironically this mentality helps watchers grasp the narrative better, because the soundtrack is so prominent anyway, and deeply intwined with the plot as well.

I was hesitant on getting Siege Laserbeak and Ravage because I was worried they'd look weird with my core soundwave, but I'm pretty satisfied with how they look. Laserbeak is also surprisingly fun on his own. Ravage on the other hand is kinda awkward, don't really like him that much.

I loved Spark Crystals so much as a kid. Probably because there was so much emphasis on them in the shows especially Beast Machines. But they just looked so fucking cool and TM2 toys were some of my favourites. I was a Toy Story Cid kinda kid too so I removed them all after watching Beast Machines and pretended I was Megatron. I love how in beast machines and universe transmetal terrorsaur and silverbolt got one. I just wish universe could have made new spark crystals for autobots and decepticons instead of this crap.

It's already been brought up, this guy is a budget figure. It's why the back of the truck turned out that way and the reason the figure has so many painted areas (most of the abdomen, crotch anf back are blue plastic painted over).

One of the few times I'm considering an improved ko over the real figure, here's hoping we get one soon.

I ordered a Skullsmasher to put alongside my retro Headmaster Skullcruncher such that Skullcruncher could take Skullsmasher's tail gun and attach a bunch of beast weaponizers to it. I might do the same with Krok and attempt a configuration where the tail gun attaches to Skullcruncher's head 5mm port in a way where I can have it flip forward. Funny thing is that they actually DID resculpt or replace entire spark crystals for certain characters - only to slap an Autobot or Decepticon sticker over them in the end. Pic related actually had his original BM Maximal Spark Crystal swapped out for a BM 'Dinobot' one...only to get an Autobot sticker on top of it, rendering the change pointless.

Looks to be an entirely new, slightly asymmetrical head - something's up with his left eye (an eyepatch of some sort?), what looks like some kind of scope on his right cheek that isn't mirrored on his left, and he seems to have an actual mouth cutting across his faceplate.

ohhh i just checked mine, I never noticed that! That's pretty neat. there may have been a lot of dumb shellforming and underwhelming altmodes in the original molds of this series, but my man Big is still a big deal and i'm so glad that korean one existed so I could get him at a decent price.
Would be tits awesome if we got a brand new one, sans dumb gimmicks, with an improved transformation, and in (improved versions of) his alt colors too.

It's weird because Botcon Arcee has an Autobot one but its like a tampo under a clear spark instead of molded detail with chrome. RiD 2001 has BM repaints with opaque designless sparks too but that linehad Predacons with sparks. Also why would Silverbolt get remolded to add a spark if you can't even see it? It's so weird. And that modern Transmetal 3 Botcon Megatron has a Dinobot one too.

Does anyone know of any BM or BW toy is cheap and have an easy to remove spark?
