Whatever you want. Marvel, Dreamwave, and IDW have been the main comic runs (hell, IDW had 2), and FunPub (and also 3H) existing for hardcore-fan-targeting stuff. There are also a few manga, like TF Legends.

Those main 3 comics are all equally recommended. If you want specifics, especially on Marvel and IDW, TRUST ME, TFWiki is gonna be your friend.
Marvel was slightly different between US and UK printings of the same stories, and also had exclusive stories within the UK. The continuity has also been continued several different times after the fact. No collection has ever reprinted them in a perfect way, so best I can recommend is either sticking to US and only reading the UK-exclusive stories, or reading both versions side-by-side (which's what i did bc im autistic lol).
Dreamwave had a G1 story and an Armada+Energon story. Both were cut short bc the company bankrupted, but that means theyre both short lol. Theyre not bad.
IDW is long with multiple different ongoings, standalone minis and singles, and absolutely different writers; and they ALL crossover with eachother, whichs why reading it is a pain in the ass (again, TFWiki is your friend, their IDW continuity page is super helpful). Main recommendations are the earliest run by Furman, minis like Last Stand of the Wreckers, and arguably the two most popular stories from IDW: More than Meets the Eye, and Robots in Disguise (both starting in 2012). Both of them require a couple prerequisite readings and have crossover issues (USE THE WIKI), but MTMTE is the most standalone of IDW's stories, so it's easier to recommend trying. Til All are One is also pretty good, which's a shorter comic run that ties in very closely with RiD, so theyre usually treated as the same story. Also keep in mind both these runs get a name change (or two) because they just ran that long, which totally makes things not confusing. IDW rebooted in 2019 but most found it too slow, sadly.

Just whatever you do, dont ask for IDW opinions anywhere, especially here. Form your own. It's the subject of much flamewarring and shitposting because culture warriors are thirsty for battle despite never reading it.

As for FunPub, their stories are a pretty relaxed read. It's like, official fanfiction. Stuff like Shattered Glass especially can be pretty fun, and they have tie-in comics for show universes, (notably) like Animated. If you just want a chill fun read, cant go wrong here.

Just found this guy at my local WalMart. Not a bad little dude - his arms and legs can move around, and his mouth opens and closes. His gun mode is pretty cool, too - he's got a 5mm peg for a handle, so pretty much any figure can hold him, his transformation is stupidly simple but clean, and his barrel is blast effect compatible. I'm definitely using him as Gatoraider, though, since I've already got two actual Skullcrunchers.

Transformers Generations Fall of Cybertron Shockwave

Since they're topical again I think I still have a few FoC toys to talk about.

Shockwave transforms into what is essentially nothing more than a cannon that can fly. Which is the sort of utilitarian thing I think Shockwave would go for.
A much much more svelte alt mode than the beefy tank he technically is later in TF Prime.

Simple enough colour scheme. Just solid purple with a few silver accents and a few hits of pink.
No landing gear to speak of, though that would be kind of redundant on a cybertronian design.
So you'll have to be content with swooshing Shockwave around.

Transformation is basically just flipping the arms out and pulling the legs apart. But flapping the torso block all the way over is neat.

Colour and even general shape stay the same from alt mode.
I will say, they typically aren't Shockwave's look, but he is really rocking those wings.
The whole excessive use of sharp angles really pays off.

I'll fully admit to doing it wrong but I can't seem to remember there being a way to properly graft the cannon to his arm.
So for now he just gets to hold and we'll all pretend he has a gun hand.

I wanna make a joke about Shockwave's articulation being as stiff as his personality, but it ain't that bad.
The worst part is his whole abdomen being a solid hunk of plastic with no waist swivel.
Beyond that he's fine.

Shoulder are on a pair of hinges for full up/down in/out movement.
Elbows are ball jointed but also on a sideways hinge for transformation if you find that useful.
Wrists don't do anything.

Hips are ball jointed, so that's fine.
Swivels above at the knees and the knees themselves bend about 90 degrees.

All in all, this mold comes out near the top of the FoC heap.

Really, really late reply, but since it's only a 5mm peg, you shouldn't have much of a problem finding things to slap on there. Turns out some of the Battlemasters have 5mm holes under their guns (like Blowpipe's in pic related) that can make for a nice little back turret, for example. Humerously, Double Dealer's entire missile can be mounted to him as well, among other things. Plenty of options to choose from.

Pretty much yeah, I think back then the peg system wasn't standardized but 5mm pegs were more seen than any other size so it was used as the basis for the Minicon connection. Its kind of ingenius how they did it, just drill a hole through and add a smaller peg on the Minicon so it can activate features. And even on pegs that don't have the activation gimmick they work well as hardpoints to slap a Targetmaster style Minicon Armored Core style and the increase in surface area meant the connection is solid and rarely loose. Kinda a shame nowadays the 5mm peg philosophy is based on Arms Micron where the main Transformer needs to be filled with holes and ports for the weapons with the peg to fit into. It led to Minicon incompatibility, majority of the weapons designed as handheld first and attachment second meaning most guns look weird if they're not on the hands and that's boring.

That's Universe (2008) Brimstone. He was available in a Minicon 12-pack, but also sold individually (which is how I got him. there's actually one up for sale on eBay right now, pic related, but he's going for over $20, which is really pricey for what he is). He's supposed to be part of the Ransack team (a group of Minicons who specialize in toxic warfare) along with Blight and Suppressor. Other Minicons who share his mold are Nightscream (who I own), Dragoyell (who I do not), and 'Dinobot Sling' from the Movie Advanced series (who I have been chasing for forever).

I always liked how lithe and athletic this Shockwave looked, with the wings giving him the impression of being much more agile than his usual designs. Sort of like the opposite end of the spectrum as his more bruiser Prime or DOTM designs.

The only 2 issues I got is how the damn chest refuses to stay on the tab (anyone know a fix to this?) and those damn annoying rachetes hasbro keeps using for the hips. They have too much deadspace in-between and the worst is the deadspace leans forward so the figure keep having this hunchback look unless you go full yamaguchii
Yes you can turn the joint like I did but it is an issues. And there is no reason for this when the knee joint rachets are like the hardest joint I have ever seen in a transformers toy

I really wonder if it is possible to get a waist movement with this design

Mine did this too but after transforming him a few times the chest piece doesn't pop off quite as easily. I think it has to do with the two tabs it plugs into. They need to be aligned just right for a flush connection and they can be a little fiddly when swapping back from regular mode to Super Mode.

Yellow was common because that was the color super robots of the 70s had used. After that was silver because toy tech was simplistic and they just painted the face and eyes all the same color. Red was also common because of its contrast.
Less common colors included
- Blue, which usually was for when the toy was already in blue plastic and it was easier to leave that section unpainted
- Black, for the same reason. Sometimes it was used because it contrasted better against a bright plastic color (eg, Seapsray)
- Roadbuster has green.
Once 1986 happens and Hasbro starts making more original designs and toys get larger, more visor/eye colors start appearing, and blue becomes much more common-- for instance, Hot Rod, Kup, and Blurr all have painted blue eyes while Cyclonus, Scourge, and Gnaw have red.

Powermaster Optimus famously has red eyes... because Hasbro figured it was cheaper to just mold his actual head in blue and then screw it the red panel on the back, with the eyes being "filled in" by that red plastic.

The most obvious one is the self-defeating claim of Street Fighter II as first generation. Even Alpha started out as remaking the original game which is why you have Adon and Birdie, and is extremely different from Street Fighter II in terms of both gameplay mechanics and aesthetics and gets further divorced in Alpha 2 and Alpha 3.
The Toa Nuva are the same characters as Mata, uses the same construction style, and it happens with the before and being set on the same island. Calling that a generation shift wouldn't work if compared to Transformers which has done more extreme things such as the post-Movie status quo shift and designs favoring sci-fi/alien vehicles yet is still called Generation 1. Even if you wanted to break it down like that, would be better as Mata Nui, then Metru Nui.

Nah I get the lipstick. It's the easy visual shorthand for "girl bot" when you can't do much else and want to offer more body types than just "tapering hourglass". I can't say I am a fan of the super mode in the first place

The toy works for what it is
I don't know if they would have design the waist (below the actual waistline) and crotch cover (one solid piece) like this if they did not have to do the base mode and cut corner here and there

But they seriously should have kept to the Jetfire hand. The new hands look bad in every other angles but straight

Having the LG god ginrai and combined star saber next to him, armada probably has the weakest looking super mode out of the three

I know the super mode is the main draw here but i really feel it is a bonus to the Voyager figure

You mostly nailed down my feelings on him. I never had his original toy and he only occasionally combined into his super mode in the show so I can't say I have a massive attachment to it. It's a cool but I'll be displaying him in his regular form, but maybe that'll change if they do make a new Overload and Jetfire. The hands are disappointing, every commander class should have opening fists or the Jetfire hands for the price they want.

What a mail day for Transformers! Thanks to the holiday weekend, a handful of things I'd ordered all came today. Thrilling 30 Rattrap, Ectotron, and King Grimlock hardcover all arrived a bit earlier. Plus, a kind anon from the BST threw in a mini RID Grimlock with an unrelated purchase.

Ectotron is now the largest in my TF collection. I wasn't expecting him to be so large, but he's awesome and I love the little Slimer he came with.

The problem isn't that it looks bad, the problem is that clear plastic is much more brittle and making anything structural out of it as a cost-saving measure is a dumbshit idea. Clear windows are fine as long as they're inlays or similar and their structural purpose is kept to a minimum.

it's almost 100% certain at this point
and what sucks is I'll buy him, despite putting so much work into mine. SO much work. Very little of him isn't custom painted at this point.

Getting back on topic, what >>10444223 said is correct; tho I wanna add, it gets better as it goes. The first 20ish eps are almost* skippable, then it becomes really good during the last 25ish eps, and the 5-part finale in particular is the fucking GOAT. The way the show eventually manages to build up and pay off all its plot threads, subvert legacy characters in a real way and give them a stupidly mature amount of depth, and just make the finale in general very entertaining and imaginative, elevates the show as a whole to me to being one of my favorites. Shame it does take watching literally the whole thing to reach its full potential (Optimus's hidden arc is only payed off in the literal last episode), but I wouldn't be ranting about it if I didn't think it was gewd.
Main issue with Armada is its infamous dub. Rushed 6 months ahead of even the JP airing, suffering from worse animation/art, nonsense translations, terrible sound mixing and line deliveries, but also simplified character writing that ruins much of what was there. If you ever watch Armada, watch the JP with fansubs. The dub really makes the whole thing incredibly chintzy and lame.
Oh, and the human kids are the worst in the franchise ever, sadly. No real getting around that. But then again the TFs have amazing character arcs, so, guess it's a tradeoff? Idk...

well it SHOULD have a very light yellowish wash over the top. the TOP.
this doesn't look significantly different to me, though it's hard to tell. I don't think they improved the stripes. I think I can let this one go
also it looks like they didn't paint his inner shins on this one either! Easy mistake to make since the legs are different from the show, but there are clearly sculpted 'metal' pieces meant to be green and not white.
