Used to drive one of those quite often for work a while back. Not the exact model of course, but close enough. A Mercedes with automatic rear doors and transmission. Getting used to an automatic was hell at first, I have no idea how Americans do it.

Bought one of these IRL from some guy importing junk from Japan. It’s a Honda one though, but I found out at around 30 MPH if you slam on the brakes they will do a nose stand. What an abysmal design for a vehicle

I love when ebay sellers take time to securely package 20+ year old MOSC cars without knowing I'm just going to rip them open and toss the card in the trash. I do love JL packaging, though. Most of the stuff I bought from them always came with cool collector cards of some kind. Probably sucked for the completionists, tho.

Their Simpsons cars are legit, though. The sculpts really captured the feeling of the early season animation. Hot Wheels did a version of Homer's pink sedan, and the proportions are a bit more "tooned" than I'd like. Still on the lookout for Wiggum's squad car at a reasonable price. Shame they never did Mr. Plow, or the Plow King.

Hobby64: This line focuses on race cars and racing liveries.

Road64: Mostly regular street cars or cars you'd come across on a normal day. No racing liveries.

Global64: Mini GT competitor. Has a greater emphasis on rolling wheels.

Thanks. Piece of masking tape. I have cars on the lower level too taped as well. I keep it on top of my dresser and every time I open the drawers they all roll forward. That kit was a real pain to put together. I had to 'drill' some of the pin holes bigger with my hobby knife.

Here were last week's designs from "Hot Wheels Ultimate Challenge". Both had to incorporate an element from Lethal Diesel. The camry won(even though it was ugly as fuck), but I want to hear your takes on these.

Got the Neon Speeders and got lucky to get the full set of the new Boulevards. Found the new Classic Nissan Diorama set as well. Met a collector and learned quite a bit. I know we have a group that goes around and buys up all the HWs and even other toys that have chases etc, but was able to beat them this time as I saw the pallets the night before and knew to come in in the morning. I feel for your guys in the Ohio and Indiana area. You got a group out your way that hits all the stores to scalp online. I hear it's the hardest place nationwide to find diecast.

Schabak and Schuco are good, but are a small scale. The paint reacts poorly to humidity, but I assume you are keeping them inside, so no problem.

Daron, Matchbox, Corgi and Majorette have all offered Concorde models.

If you go the plane autist route, then you can probably find Gemini or some other brand's model, but for an insane price.

Check The Flying Mule and The Airplane Shop for your options, as well as Amazon and eBay (especially eBay).

Is it me or is collecting hot wheels a lot worse than it was 5 years ago? It seems like anytime I go look for stuff all that's left is fantasy castings. I think about how when I was little my mom would always surprise me by giving me cars and she would never buy me any fantasy stuff. Hot wheels has been since beginning both fantasy and licensed models, their quirks (being wacky designs, liveries, paints) are what made them stand out. Fantasy castings have always been part of the brand identity, now i agree that some of them are bad (subjective opinion, i myself don't like those food, animal, characters cars and so on) but some others are pretty cool and are exactly what are you bitching about, those "what ifs" mentioned above.

These are ideas both brands are build on. Lesney's dream was to make accurate scaled copies of real cars. This almost brought his company to ruin because kids prefered fast flashy and crazy Hot Wheels. And when both try to do something else they fail. Matchbox for example tried to enter fantasy casting with god awful Hero City line. Nobody liked that. Hot Wheels can't get proper proportions for real factory cars so they should rather stick to custimized cars than stock models. The most valuable Hot Wheels is surfer custimized VW Van.

As for fantasy castings argument, I'll pick up the ones I want along with the licensed models (I'm buying licensed models first because of course. They all go first and I prefer real cars). That said, the Celero GT that just came out was actually one of the fantasy castings I was excited for after seeing a preview of it because of how real it looked like it could be and made sure to buy one as soon as I found one. Now that I think of it, maybe I should buy another for a wheel swap.

my absolute guy... what do you think the name hot wheels could refer to? the difference between them and their european competitors of the time was precisely that they were made specifically to be fast(est), hence the name... the thin stainless steel wire axle's low friction and flexibility meant they were faster than anything else, whereas european counterparts, with their thick, rigid, non-stainless axle were never meant to be speed demons, they were just meant to be, well, masterful scale recreations.

It's so weird how the 1:18 market just kind of completely dried up after the early 2000s. I sold off some of mine for decent money to collectors who just had no other option because newer versions of things just didn't exist. I sold a KITT from Knight Rider by Ertl with working lights and a ton of gadgets for like 120 bucks. Should have held onto it longer because it's going for more than twice that, now. Oh well.

Not sure why the license plate is red because it's usually blue, but that's my only other gripe as a Simpsons fanboy. Compared to Hot Wheels' ZAMAC cars, Mini GT chases in raw metal seem nicer. And while yes, it should be for $50 vs $1.25, what I mean is that Hot Wheels seems to put some sort of coating on them besides the tampos (it flakes at the rivets like normal painted ones with leftover paint and all) while Mini GT seems to look as if it went through a polisher.

I get what you mean and i agree, they should have kept with the classic truck shape but more futuristic.
That thing in the pic tho is the epitome of car as appliance: the most boring and bland shape they could come by. Soulless at its finest.

bros, I've been on a bit shopping spree on eBay recently. I bought 40 redlines bugs picrel and I'm going to list them all on eBay soon (dealsanddiecast). Another purchase/investment I've made is on 1 car, the Olds 442. It's a salmon pink color and looks great. I truly think rlc would be better if all of the casting were to the quality of the original redline hot wheels (1967-1972)

Technically, every hardcore diecast collecter has some cars that they plan on keeping because they're worth money/will be worth money. You can hate all you want but in the end we're winning, if you're just collecting diecast cars that cool but don't hate the player, hate the game.

I've been collecting for more than 20 years and have over 2500 pieces in my collection. I have never kept a single one for its value proposition.

Also, the RLC cars are the same or higher quality than the old Redlines so not sure what you're on about there. The paint on RLC cars looks great, they have opening parts, some of them have suspensions, and they're cheaper for the most part. I love the old Redlines too and have a number of them, but it's pretty daft to suggest the new RLC cars are lower quality.

Depends on the casting. If it's something I really like, I often seek out multiple recolors. If a new repaint is truly superior enough to replace the original in my collection, I'll take the spare to work or make it a "pocket car", since I won't really care about it getting scuffed up.
